Union Opposes City Taxes & Fees
Its not often that I hear a union opposing tax or fee increases, but the LA Engineers and Architects Association is doing just that. The union is chastising the mayor for wanting to increase fees when the City, as they claim, is running a surplus.
The union's executive director Robert Aquino tells us, "The City has predicted massive deficits for the last 10 years, and in each of those years they have banked surpluses. The City Controller’s report substantiates that this reserve fund will probably exceed one-half billion dollars by the end of Fiscal Year 2005-2006, yet the CAO still sticks to his story that there will be a $245 million structural deficit. He hasn’t been right once in the last decade and he will won’t be this time. I think we can now see that the CAO is “Structurally Incompetent”. EAA is working to inform the public on this issue. "

Ok, so let me get this straight.
EAA (who cares, who cares, who cares) gets an ad on the radio (spending only 800 bucks) (but that’s not the point, they really wanted the LA Times story you read today) and tricks Steve Hymen and Fatrick McCheese to not even fact-check their story?
So here is the law -- the City Charter (you know the thing that governs us) instructs, mandates, makes the City have a RESERVE. A reserve for the City to use in a (anyone remember Katrina, Northridge earthquakes, any disaster (which is a lot) LA will continue to have) case of an emergency. Now before you LAZY, failed letter to the editor writing buffoons say anything about $138 million not being enough understand its not suppose to be. It’s supposed to be enough to keep the firefighters working and the policeman policing in the event we will need them to work longer.
So to clear this all up for you -- EAA which is claiming to be against a fee in a lame effort to get attention (because the 45 people at LAX barely got the attention of the lady that asks for money for poor kids and wears a white hat while you wait in line for security) which did not work, would rather use that money for a UNION pay raise.
So to all the (I wish i lived in Simi Valley and not Van Nuys, but i can't because redneck school only taught me how to fix AMC cars which they don't make anymore, and that guy ringing his bell selling ice-cream outside my house has a better shirt on then me) HATERS. Pick your poison.
Union pay raise or Garbage Fee.
Want some quick facts on the fee's you get charged?
Top 100 Cities in America (% of household income)
Garbage Fee -- Los Angeles ranks last
DWP - Los Angeles ranks 98th (Seattle and Charleston are lower, main reason, they get more rainfall, but so do 93 other cities)
Sewer Fee -- Huh? we rank 100th
Recycling Fee -- Some cities charge fees -- didn't know that huh, well we don't lame-o - Tied for 100th
Trash Can Fee -- Ding, Ding, Ding, you guessed it Johnny boy -- we don't charge one! Only if you need more than your allotment. Tied for 100th.
Wanna know what happens if Los Angeles decided to be ummm average.
We'd raise about 120-150 million a year -- that’s about oh I don't know -- 1,200 to 1,500 more cops.
So lay off, get off and let me know how that sour egg sucking contest each of you guys play everyday is going for you.
Seriously, like really serious no single blogger on this blog does their homework anymore.

Its interesting that someone who is so full of vitriol, throwing around racial slurs is calling everyone else "haters." (Where did that word come from by the way? Must have been invented by the left.)
Its obvious this guy is some kind of City employee. Who else would lament that LA is low on the list compared to other cities for various municipal fees?
Laughable!

And you call all that smoke your blowing up our ass "homework." It isn't homework, it's actual work because you're probably on Tony the Liar's payroll, if not Parke Skelton's. Amazing how similar this post sounds to past posts by the exiled one - Chief Parker. Cracks are starting to show in Tony the Liar's armour, much sooner than most people expected. It won't be long before the flood gates open. You can't put the shit back in the horse once people realize that Tony and his team are full of shit!

From the article:
"This ad is a political attack ad that is false and misleading," said Joe Ramallo, a spokesman for the mayor.
Gee, Tony the Liar has never put out any political attack ad that is false and misleading. Run for cover engineers, Parke Skelton is busy getting his false and misleading ads against you. What a bright day for ujnions in L.A. with all this progressive leadership.

Well now, maybe Joe Ramallo can explain to us what is false and misleading about the add. Should be simple to prove, show us how much money the City has in the bank.
Hey Mayor, remember that Bond you wanted me to vote for?
FORGET IT!

Sell the DWP now! Its the only way to get the unions under control. they are going to keep trying to get more from Antonio-the Police get their 3 day work week. The IBEW has their very own utility that they run...for themselves, so why wouldnt every other city union hold up the city? they cant help themselves, and you cant expect the council to act, when their campaigns are funded by these very unions. The mayor has to be strong enough to take them on. I fear though, that the Mayor will shy from this fight.

c&h soup,
You are spot on. People in SoCal whine and whine about "taxes and fees", and how "independant" they are. But the reality is we are all snuggled up so close to goverment services that we squeal like baby pigs at the teet when it gets even a little bit more expensive to pay for our resource inefficient lives.
The right wing is the worst - because they always preach "individualism" and "responsibility". Yet, when you take a look at their history, and their lives, they have typically relied entirely on subsidies, community support, and networks of friends and relatives to get by, and be successful. Their only defense is typically that they are totally ignorant of all that has been given to them which they selfishly take for granted - and seek to deny others from getting.
Bravo. Bring keep up the vitriol.

To C&H soup - Go f--k yourself. You are an AV hack and I think you get paid to monitor and criticize anything negative about Tonito-Trust me Baby-Villabarboso. As a tax payer I want to know what the real deal is... I'm waiting... I'm still waiting. Forget waiting, the public should call his office and ask for an explanation NOW!

EAA, with one day's ad, single-handedly did away with a $245 million deficit. The Mayor and his master of structural incompetence (Billy Fudge) are now telling us that the $245 million deficit is going to be in the 2006-2007 fiscal year. I guess EAA can't expose this lie yet since there's no Controller's report for next fiscal year. Up until this week there was supposed to be a massive deficit for the 05-06 fiscal year. You should all be kissing EAA's ass for enabling the City to have a surplus this year when only a week ago we were facing a multi-million dollar deficit.

Why is the Mayor wanting to take more of our money when he already has the money? What does he need so much for? Can he use the money to fund his campaign race for CA Governor?

AV running for governor? When and in what state? Doesn't Maria Shriver have the Democratic nomination sewn up for 2010 in California -- assuming Arnold is re-elected?

Definitely an Antonio staffer posting that LA is at the bottom of list when it comes to taxes. If Antonio could find $50 million for homeless issue, then we profitied $12.7 BILLION more profit from tourism how the hell can the city be in the mess Antonio is saying we are? Its all BULLSHIT and thanks Steve Hymon for reporting the story. Public Safety should be top priority and Antonio has yet to do anything to get more cops. There's money in this city all they have to do is STOP THE SPECIAL EVENT WAIVERS THAT COST US OVER $10 MILLION a year. These are waived as favors to corporate sponsors who can pay it themselves. Hymon go after that story.

Any of you EAA members out there... could you get your union to come out front to sponsor a "Draft Tony Villar for Governor" campaign? I understand it's possible that he might not gather the vote from the rest of the state but I've seen enough of him here in LA to know that Angelenos would vote for him for no other reason than to get rid of him 2 years early.

The City of Los Angeles is very light on taxes and fees--on individuals and households, that is. It's businesses that get hosed, which is why you see all those shiny office buildings in Burbank, El Segundo, and Beverly Hills.
