Open Thread for Thursday
North Hollywood, like most of the rest of the San Fernando Valley, was once part of the vast landholdings of the Franciscan Mission San Fernando Rey de España, which were confiscated by the government during the Mexican period of rule. The Treaty of Cahuenga which ended the U.S.-Mexican fighting in California was signed at Tomás Feliz's adobe house at Campo de Cahuenga on Lankershim Boulevard in January of 1847. The area was formerly known as Lankershim, but was subsequently renamed North Hollywood in an effort to capitalize on the glamour and proximity of Hollywood proper. North Hollywood today is extremely diverse, with large Latino, Asian-American, Jewish, Middle Eastern and African-American populations.
The NoHo Arts District is a new Los Angeles community, located near Valley Village and North Hollywood, that is home to contemporary theaters, art galleries, cafes, and interesting shops. A Metro Rail station is located here, the North Hollywood station of the Red Line.

Talk about ineffective, Rosendahl got smoked to day at Council trying to block Playa Vista. Only managed to get two colleagues to vote with him! Two! Lots of talk with no results. I hope the former Lincoln Place residents feel satisfied with the fact that he fought the good fight even though he achieved precisely nothing there either. Big difference from running a campaign or a talk show and being a succesful councilman who gets real results.

Lots of people get smoked by Playa Vista.
But beyond that, I don't know that merely "managed to get two colleagues to vote with him" is getting smoked. There were plenty of 12-1 votes in which Wachs apparently got smoked, and it made him no less of a Councilman.

Rosedahl is an idiot!!!! He doesn't know how to put his argument on the chamber floor without sounding stupid. He's the biggest kiss butt to Antonio and comes off as if he doesn't know the issue enough. Perfect example is when he signed off on the special event waiver for Dr. Price who the Gay organizations stormed city hall to reprimand them for it. Rosendahl had the nerve to state he didn't know what he was signing. CD11 should be embarrassed

Today's LA Times "Fired City Official Appeal in Limbo.
Great story McGreevy stating that city council members couldn't decide so they left it alone. Now it stays on agenda for 9 weeks. STuckey has a great argument. Antonio allowed animal terrorists pressure him into firing Stuckey and everyone knows it. Let's see whcih council members have balls enough to do the right thing and reinstate him.

Opposition to Playa Vista has always been, is now, and will always be, complete bullshit.

Here's a great way to show how politically astute you are:
"Rosendahl sought the report because, he said, he wanted to make phase one as safe as possible. Last spring, he campaigned on slowing or stopping phase two of Playa Vista.
The council often sides with members on issues involving their districts but departed from that custom in Wednesday's closed-session vote.
As for his colleagues voting against him, Rosendahl said: 'Many of them have been around this large conglomerate that is creating Playa Vista and has tentacles throughout the whole region, and they have other historical relationships with [the developer] and some of the lobbyists' involved with the project."
There ya go Bill - no wonder you can't get anything done! When it doesn't go your way, throw a hand grenade or two at your fellow councilpersons! I'm sure they really appreciate the comment and will feel warm and fuzzy next time you come calling for some other Don Quixote crusade of yours.

If there other Councilmember wasn't Smith, what Rosendahl needed to do is to find Smith and other opponents of Sunshine Canyon (I would classify Smith as a 'hardcore' opponent but I think Smith fought the fight against Sunshine Canyon because to a large extent there is somewhat of a consensus among peeps who vote in council elections in district 12 against the dump) and do some good old-fashioned trading. Playa Vista in the Sunshine Canyon of R-dahl's district, it's something that pisses off people who know about or a hardcore group of people that can supply you with votes and other forms of support (and like S Canyon is simply bad policy for the city). Nearly everyone councilman has something similar, he should learn some of that- because over time he may be able to get a majority as controversial issues come up in other districts and he can do some negotiation

Opposition to Playa Vista has always been, is now, and will always be totally justified.
We live in a city that geographically cannot be built on the way developers and politicians would like.
Face facts and don't be so stupid and short sighted.

I agree. The Ballona Wetlands was just as stupid of a place to build on as Sunshine Canyon was to allow a landfill.
Both have bigger (and smarter) contingencies than either City Council or the Esteemed Mayor believe.
