Open Thread for Friday
To get your weekend going, here are some real but strange laws on the books around the country.
Theaters in Glendale, California can show horror films only on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday.
In Lehigh, Nebraska it's against the law to sell donut holes.
Under the law of Mississippi, there’s no such thing as a female Peeping Tom.
Lawn darts are illegal in Canada.
In Idaho a citizen is forbidden by law to give another citizen a box of candy that weighs more than 50 pounds.
It is against the law to whale hunt in Oklahoma. (Think about it...)
According to law, no store is allowed to sell a toothbrush on the Sabbath in Providence, Rhode Island. Yet these same stores are allowed to sell toothpaste and mouthwash on Sundays.

Schwarzenegger wants bonds to spend $220 billion in addition to our current tax burden?! That's really all you need to say on the subject, isn't it?

Driving in Los Angeles is 'the pits'
Quality of life report gives region an "F" based on rise in fatalities and commute time. Population growth blamed.
By Gordon Smith
Copley News Service
With carpooling down, highway fatalities up and traffic congestion getting steadily worse, driving in the Los Angeles region got an "F" grade in an annual report card on the area's quality of life released Thursday by the Southern California Association of Governments.
It was the first "F" that SCAG has handed out since the regional planning agency began giving letter grades to issues such as housing, income, air quality and mobility seven years ago.
"The 'F' grade is deserved, and the public in general knows it's deserved," said Paul Nowatka, a Torrance city councilman and member of SCAG's regional council...

Wha, wha, what's THIS... an anonymous AV-lover posting a late praise piece on Thursday's "Open Thread" spills the beans on the nefarious truth that we ALL KNEW, and no one would admit to... CD14 staff (like Lisa Sarno) WAS working on the AV mayoral campaign on PUBLIC TIME early last year, in violation of all that's ethical and holy!
Sarno never took a leave of absence to work on the campaign, like some other staffers did, how could she have "worked on AV's campaign"???
YUP, knew it ALL along... just like they were ALSO working to get Huizar elected and interfering with the electoral process late last year.
Gotcha!
Anybody listening. . . Ethics? LAT, LADN? ANYBODY???

I like Lisa Sarno a lot and I do believe she is a people person. ONLY disgruntled CD 14ers are bashing her.
Those of us who worked on AV's campaign all have good relationships with her. . .

Lisa Sarno never attended community meetings, neighborhood council meetings and in general completely ignored constituents. Guess this is a classic case of when you're incompetent you can fake your way to the top.

The City Council returns to work on Tuesday, January 10th, 2006. We want to pack City Hall with black shirts to welcome them back. Plan on being at Council chambers no later than 9:30am and also plan on attending the entire Council meeting because we wouldn’t want them to be lonely without us. We also encourage you to bring your personal video cameras to help the police and fire officials in their efforts to make sure all laws and regulations are being adhered to. See you at Council on the 10th.

No take your video cameras to make sure Council is paying attention. They should all be seated by 10am. This will be a true test of Garcetti's leadership.
Good luck EAA!
