Mayor Sam's Morning Update
Jennifer Forkish, Communications Deputy for Council Member Dennis Zine is moving up to bigger and better things. Starting January 17th, Forkish will become Director of Local Government Relations for the California Grocers Association.
Councilmember Greig Smith will testify before the California State Assembly Natural Resources Committee Monday, Jan. 9 to voice support for AB 1090. If passed, the bill would make it possible for entities using approved technologies for converting waste into energy to receive credits normally given for diverting solid waste from landfills. Homeless Activist Ted Hayes - founder of the Dome Village homeless program in Downtown LA - says that the owner of the land is raising his rent from $2500 to over $18,000 per month. Why? Hayes - a registered Republican and outspoken conservative - alleges the owner said to him "Because you are a Republican." Attorneys for the owner claim the allegation is false. Hayes says he will not fight the increase and seek other land. Hey Jackie Goldberg - are you going to let the homeless get screwed here?
If you're into rough and tumble, local South Bay politics, check out danwalker.info. The blog is no fan of current Torrance Mayor Dan Walker and boosts his main political rival, Councilman Frank Scotto. This stuff makes CD14 look like Hootervile.
One of our readers memorializes recently deceased former City Councilman Ernani Bernardi from his personal experience; Joe Mailander at Martini Republic writes a great obit that recounts the antics of the City Council of the early 1990s, leading us to remember that crowd like we might recall the Dana Carvey-Mike Myers years on Saturday Night Live. One thing Joe forgets is the circus act that was the great 10th District Councilman, Nate Holden.

Your going to have to come to the register with more than vienna sausages to have that happen.

Her new job is now working for the likes of Ralphs - who has admitted illegally hiring workers under fake names during the strike, in an effort to undermine workers' efforts to hold onto their health benefits.
Lofty ideals.

But look at those white teeth.

Get a clue people - business is not the enemy.
What do you think generates the dough for your schemes?

Jen is hot. City Hall is going to be a lot more ugly with her gone.

"Get a clue people - business is not the enemy."
I love how someone points out that Ralphs broke the law repeatedly (and has admitted to it!) while trying to break a strike in support of health insurance that someone's sole response is that "business is not the enemy." Clearly, all business is not the enemy, but that doesn't mean that when a company breaks the law and ends up taking health coverage away from thousands of new workers, that they can't be called on it. Get a clue.
Who do you think generates the dough for Ralph's execs and shareholders? The workers they screwed in the strike!

Yes, business IS the enemy, to those who have been hopelessly indoctrinated at the socialist-run re-education camps we jokingly call "universities" in this country.
Big Govt., which takes our money and CREATES nothing, is our FRIEND (and our daddy!)
Big Biz., which creates goods, services, and jobs, is EVIL.
That's American Institutions 101, at U-Name-It University.

Big business creates jobs? For Americans? Name them.
They create jobs to be outsourced is what they do.
