Chick Gets Her Audits
Laura Chick finally got her audits from LAUSD, but not without a fight and some rather snide comments from Glenn Gritzner:
Glenn Gritzner, special assistant to Supt. Roy Romer, said Friday that the district would provide the old audits to Chick in a week or two.
But he said Chick could not invoke the Public Records Act because she was a city officeholder.
So, he said, sending an official response would mean "you're going down a road that she gets whatever she wants, or whatever."
Give me a fu*&%$#!ing break. The public records act can be enacted by any public citizen. Does she not qualify? Hand over the damn audits. Besides, you have nothing to hide, right?

Get ready for the obfuscation storm on the "drop out rate". The "drop out rate" is a statistic so spun and massaged by the LAUSD (and other districts state wide) that even they don't understand it.
The graduation rate, as used by the Harvard study, is very simple. How many 9th graders come in to the high schools each year, and how many 12th graders graduate?
In my personal experience, the Harvard numbers, quoted by MAV, are right. Mr. Romer will try to spin MAV off of those numbers. I hope he does not succeed.
The argument that they transfer to other districts, or out of state, does not hold water. Show me the school district anywhere in the country that graduates twice as many 12th graders as come in as 9th graders, and I may start to listen. It does not exist.
