Mayor Sam's Morning Update
Another accident on the MTA Orange Line in Van Nuys, the seventh since the line opened about a month ago. This time, a sedan struck an eastbound bus, no major injuries were reported. United Riders of Los Angeles is once again calling for a 72 hour shut down of the system, though, as noted by Mayor Villaraigosa, there are no specific details as to how that would solve the problem. This accident was where the busway intersects Kester Avenue, just like the last one. Does it seem like all these accidents have been in Van Nuys?
Speaking of riders of a different kind, Councilman Greig Smith will make the first ever use of the Council's new two way video conferencing system that connects citizens at Van Nuys City Hall with Spring Street. Smith will present a proclamation declaring tomorrow the "Day of the Horse" in the City while equine fans from his district in the northwest Valley watch in Van Nuys.
Now that's he no longer President of the City Council, perhaps Alex Padilla's time is worth a little less these days. An auction on eBay to raise funds for public television station KCET netted only $50.99 for coffee with the Councilman. For twice that amount, you can pick up a nifty Mayor Poulson era official LA City Hall commemorative coin.
If you've got a question for Mayor V, he will appear Wednesday night at 9:00 p.m. live on KCAL 9 for the latest edition of the "Ask the Mayor'' segment.

Woah, Alex Padilla is gonna be selling candy bars out of a white van pretty soon.."I'm trying to go on a field trip to Sacramento"
Q: Does the City of Los Angeles' employee medical insurance cover plastic surgery? Word on the street is Alex Padilla is looking a little less 'ethnic' these days.

Are you kidding he's hot!
I would have paid to have $100 for coffee with him.
He's L.A.'s most elegible bachelor.

Who gives a rat's ass how many stupidos get hit on the Orange line?
Sooner or later we'll run out of stupidos.

11:15 you sound like a cheap trick off Sepulveda in CD 7. Careful with who you sleep with, what u pay is not what u get, for I hear AP is now running as the woman candidate. You might be surprised if the goods aren't all there.
11:02: less ethnic, try less manly Alex Padilla

For the love of all that's good and holy, Yorty, now you're giving away my actual money? Thanks for nothing. Lunch in hell is on you.

Semper Paratus. We never sleep.
When there is justice in the air, we are there to see it through.
The wimps who are worried that idiots keep busting the Orange line needn't worry. There is a finite number of idiots in the V-V-V-Valley.

There is a finite number of idiots on the West Side also Phil.
PhilKrakover said:
Oh yeah, there certainly is, but we don't drive into buses going at high rates of speed on a regular basis, so it takes longer for us to be extinct.
Our idiots try to drive off the Santa Monica Pier, instead.

Now is the time to unseat Zev. If just two more people file for the seat, there will be a runoff. When there is a runoff, contributors will hedge their bets and the media will pay attention to the race. This is a chance to change county government and send a corrupt politician packing.

Phil,
8 crashes in 7 weeks. Aren't traffic signals supposed to be idiot proof? Seems to me there is a desgin flaw. Tony the Liar keeps blaming the motorists, are you going to blame homelessness on the homeless also? Is this his idea of an "overwhleming success" as he claims. More proof of an inept, incompetent MTA.

A few things...
Krakover - It seems like most of these accidents or a few at least happen at Kester. There are some blind spots there I think.
202 AM - Mailander would disagree as to a finite number of idiots in the Valley.
Poulson you old fussbudget you, its time you made your ugly face known.
Yes it is time to unseat Zev, but if you get more folks in the race, the runoff is just going to be David and Zev anyway. Best to go balls out for David now.

Mayor Sam,
Zev killed the subway for East L.A. with his racially tinged Prop A or C or whatever it was. How about getting some of those radical eastsiders to help out David. Although Zev was born in City Terrace, he is not like over there. And Zev has the distinction of not being like by the radical fringe as well as the connected insiders, the ones who got screwed out of all those MTA contracts once the East L.A. subway was axed - i.e. Barrio Planners, TELACU, Ron Martinez. Money and radicals, David might have a chance.

It's about time there's a consequence to running red lights.
The Orange Line is fine. If people can see neither a red light, nor warning signs, nor all the advertising surrounding the Orange Line, nor the 60-foot bus itself crawling towards them, then they deserve whatever they get.
With drivers like that on the road, it's further proof that we're a lot safter IN the bus.

I coulda swore I saw aPAD outside of Coffee Bean collecting w/ a Salvation Army bell & can set.
But he has a cute nose now, he milked the presidency til the end.

Am I the only one in the Valley who actually is so scared to cross over the Orange line that I stop and look 5 times?
Who hasn't read about these accidents?
In my opinion, they are clearly marked. Clearly.
This is not comparable to homelessness. These people are simply not paying attention because they aren't used to doing so.

Nice one, 12:48... let's grant clemency for 4X cold-blooded murderers (or give them another 20-25 years to "think about it"), but sentence bad or easily distracted drivers to death.
Yeesh!

How dumb can Antonio be? Every one told him the Orange Line was not ready but he wanted to pat himself on the back. PAINT THE DAMN BUSES BRIGHT ORANGE. Antonio has put more money into the Orange Line to prevent these accidents with more traffic officers, cameras, signs etc. and after the first 2 we're still having more accidents. I can only imagine all the lawsuits the city is going to get hit with by people who have been injured.
