Colin Powell Protege May Challenge In AG Race
According to the SF Chron, Delgadillo and Jerry Brown may have another competitor on their hands...
Bush official may run for state attorney general
Powell protege could run against Oakland's Brown

Next year's race for California attorney general is taking on a new dimension with word in high-level Republican circles that Pierre-Richard Prosper, a Bush administration war crimes prosecutor, is preparing to announce his candidacy.
Prosper is a political neophyte, and if he runs -- an official announcement would likely come in a week or so, several people with knowledge of the campaign said -- he would face daunting odds. However, he could provide what at least some Republicans have said they would love to see in California: a young, presumably moderate, voice for the party.

C'mon, you can't even call Rocky a candidate for this race. He's got no chance. Remember, he initially rode in on AV's coattails.

Sorry my democrat friends. I'm all for the support of my amigos, but I have to go with Powell on this vote.
Un Republicano Latino

He's a day late and a dollar short.
Chuck Poochigian, a well liked and respected State Senator aready has a huge war chest and endorsements of everyone in the Republican Party.
Maybe next time for this young man, but no way he wins the primary.

This staunch Dem will vote for anybody other than Rocky. Even Poochigian, although it would kill me.

Even Governor Moonbeam?

Hmmmm. . . Bush guy . . . running in California . . .
Sure, he has a shot. If he decides to run someone should sell him a bridge.

Okay no. I'd vote for Governor Moonbeam. That could be fun. Shake things up a bit. He was way before my time so I'd like to see him in action. But since we all know the chances of that are slim to none, wouldn't a vote for Brown be considered a vote for Poochigian?
I'll be like the Nader spoilers.

I think Pooch is one of the best state legislators we have seen in a long time...and I respect him immensely.
That said, Pierre P. would be a much better candidate for CA as a whole.
The problem with closed primaries is that the parties control the candidates...and Pooch is totally well liked in the CA state party. Bush himself would have to come to a CA GOP convention and personally endorse Pierre P. before they would turn their back on Pooch.
Crazy situation!

No sitting President will get involved in a state AG primary to upset half or more of his party.
Especially for a Powell protege, considering the strain between Powell and the White House.
Pooch already has sucked the oxygen out of the primary money and endorsements, and no one will turn their back on him.
Like the man said, he is well liked and respected.
If Rocky can win the primary, he can beat Pooch in the general; Jerry Brown cannot win statewide office, he is way too divisive a figure and will find real resistance from the Democrats that remember his antics as Governor.
Jerry split the party apart, and Steve Westly, for one, hates his guts, as he displaced him when it was really his turn to be chair of the Democratic party, Jerry took it away from him and screwed up the party for a long time.
Art Torres has fixed it now, but Jerry is not popular amongst the elected. He is a populist and a demagogue. All politics is like an experiment for him; he has lived long enough off his father's good name.
He can win the primary with the fringe loonies, but he cannot win the general. His nomination will give the election to Poochigian.

Poochigian has stood shoulder to shoulder with Schwarzenegger with this attack on the unions and democrats, and I don't see him beating a celebrity former governor who has done one hell of a job as Mayor of Oakland. Rocky's got a lot of scandals to deal with, and those roaches will be streaming across the counter very soon. He's pimped too many contracts and lost too many staffers to ride into this battle without his guts exposed.
As for a Bush administration official winning the Top Cop position in California -- puhleeze. If this guy enters, he'll divert funds from Poochie's campaign chest and make him even less of a threat to Brown. Say what you want about Brown, he's an independent thinker and a survivor.

How cynical everyone has become. Please repeat after me.
BARACK OBAMA. Take a second look at Prosper folks. He's got the right credentials to run. And considering the Governor's approval ratings are worse than President Bush's - and the State Legislature's ratings are EVEN LOWER -
Prosper may be just what we need to make 2006 more interesting.
