Schwarzenegger Wimps Out

Our Governor has disappointed this old, dead Mayor and has once again given into the toe tag, screaming liberals.

It was reported recently that Arnold had a deal with a few fitness and weightlifting magazines and is paid several million dollars over several years for consulting. This is something Arnold has done for years.

The grand dame of Northern California - Assemblywoman Jackie "I can't get any" Speier - howled and protested claming that Arnold's connections to these magazines colored his view on legislation she wrote in an attempt to regulate nutritional supplement use by high school athletes. Arnold vetoed the bill. Why is it liberal are always trying to get into people's personal lives anyway?

Arnold has dropped his ties to the magazines and will no longer receive compensation.

This was hardly a scandal. Its just more liberal haymaking because Arnold is the most effective threat the Republicans have had to date. They fear him, and they are out to take him down.

More so than any damn magazine Arnold gets paid to consult for, lets be more concerned about the impact of millions of dollars that Assemblywoman Speier takes from unions, doctors, insurance companies, auto body shops, Laidlaw Transit (one of the biggest providers of public transit services in California and recipient of millions in government funds), etc. I find this more troubling than Arnold's magazines.

And further troubling is the thousands of dollars in consulting fees that Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez receives from an employee union organization. Why isn't anyone talking about that?

The bottom line is that most liberals are intellectually dishonest and Arnold and the Republicans must fight back.

Otherwise, he might as well just go back home to Santa Monica and forget the game.

Classic righty logic: Jackie does it too, so Arnold is OK, even though it is not OK that Jackie does it too. Let's see -- these so called nutritional supplements killed lots of people until the feds finally put some limits on the ephedra compounds; there are also supplements that put people into mental hospitals and kidney wards, but it's all OK because Arnold is a Republican. He never should have taken that money as Governor. Why can't the right wing stop being such wimps about admitting some obvious truths?

Such indignation from a dead mayor who supported the liar-in-chief, most intellectually dishonest mayor in decades, ADV. The only one who should be shutting the "F" up in Mayor Sam, spelled with a capital "H".

Hmmmm. Let's see . . . Governor receives 1% of ad revenues from the publisher. Ad revenues come from nutritional supplement providers. Gov. S. vetoes bill to regulate supplement providers.

I suppose there's no conflict of interest there!

Finally, a win for dems over this "untouchable" governor.

Mayor Sam: c'mon. This is politics, not hop scotch.

Classy. I'm sure that when you posted that you were aware of the following:

In 1994, Sen. Speier's husband, San Mateo emergency room doctor Steven Sierra, was killed in a car crash by driver who ran a red light. She was two months into a high-risk pregnancy with her second child at the time.

BTW, she's currently married. Just read the Biography page on the link you provided.

The neo-Republican party is the most dishonest organization to ever disgrace American politics. Bush and Iraq, Schaivo, Rove outing CIA agents, the integration of Church and State, and the absurdity that is the Special Election -- McCarthy will look like an AA grad in a few years when the bums get booted out.

When you go to work in Sacramento they make you take a one-day ethics course - to let you know how far current law and enforcement efforts by the FPPC have gone to stop direct monetary contributions from affecting politics.

The training I got let everyone in the room know, very clearly, that simply the appearance of impropriety was enough evidence for us to be prosecuted.

Arnold appears to have accepted money from group that he later "helped" by vetoing some legislation. Mayor Sam, from your own post the implication is clear.

When it come to things like this, the public is very clear in its opinion: they don't like their leaders even having the appearance of being bought and sold. It definitely goes beyond a right vs. left issue.

My own opinion is that money and politics are so strongly tied together due to the economics of doing politics. Americans don't have the most rational cultural values when they describe an ideal politician. I say, let the money flow - but let that flow be widely and clearly known and publicized.

IF Arnold had acted in a way that directly benefitted the magazine, that could be one issue. In reality, Arnold acted in a way that indirectly benefitted an industry that is related to the magazine, as well as its competition. And the honest truth is that you can't tie Arnold's veto of the bill to his work with the magazine as he has been on record of both supporting nutritional supplements AND opposing excessive government regulation.

Arnold has had an affiliation with the magazine for decades, so its really hard to say he got paid off.

Speier is making much ado about nothing. As she usually does. How many other legislators have incomes from outside work? Many. And many far more questionable that what Arnold did. Many take on consulting roles far afield from their own personal expertise and more likely related to their current position - such as Nunez' job with the unions. You can not dispute that Arnold's work with these magazines is not related to his previous occupation/area of expertise.

If you don't want Arnold to do this type of thing, then you need to pass a law banning all outside employment of elected officials.

That's why.

Geez, Mayor Sam, I know you're dead, but do your best to stay current. Do a quick Google before you post.
