Cal Races Speculates on AD 53
CalRaces.com has updates on the race to fill AD53.
Candidates in AD 53
So far we have:
Greg Hill (Rep - filed)
Mary Joe Ford (Rep - filed)
Torrance City Councilman Paul Nowatka (Rep - rumored) Denise Gordon (Dem - filed) Manhattan Beach Councilmember Jim Aldinger (Dem - rumored) Torrance City Councilman Ted Lieu (Dem - rumored) Paul Whitehead (Rep - filed) Donald Pyles (Rep - filed) Todd McKenna (Libertarian - filed) James Smith (Peace and Freedom - filed)
I am sure we will have more to come.
Gordon in 2004Mike Gordon won by a pretty good margin in 2004. However, almost that entire margin came from the City of Los Angeles.
Greg Hill beat Gordon in El Segundo. Gordon was the Mayor there at the time.
Hill also beat Gordon in Redondo Beach, Torrance, and Manhattan Beach.
The City of Los Angeles was a slaughter for Gordon. That is the one problem area for Republicans in AD 53.
AD 53
Denise Gordon has taken out papers to run for AD 53. This has caught several of us by surprise.
If she runs history is on her side. Congressman "Working Joe" Baca is the only one that I can remember beating a widow. He beat Mrs. Brown. The widows that have been successful that I can remember include Capps, Bono.
Matsui, and Seastrand.
If someone has other examples please send them my way

Governor Arnold S+13 set the date for this "Special Election" for September 9th. Because it is a replacement election the polyscibase will be able to "cross party lines" and "Decline to State" (independant) registered voters will be able to make their selection also.
If no candidate receives a majority a run-off will be held with the regular Special Election in November. We California voters seem to be in a perpetual state of election. Steve Lee

It will be a fun race.
I look forward to watching
Reality-Show-Reject Dreg Hill and Super-Filthy-Rich MaryJane Ford dance the Paddington Frisk.
Nowatka is my choice.
