Press Conference re: Events in London
Brief notes from the press conference at 7:20 this morning at Parker Center with MAV, Bratton, and Baca regarding the London transit bombings
Villaraigosa:
Our thoughts go to the people of London
Stand in solidarity with the citizens of London
Extended sympathies and sorrow to families of London in tragedy
LA is increasing vigilance at home
Bratton and Baca are both here with me and will address you in a moment
briefing in emergency operations center all morning
LAPD on modified tactical alert
LAX on heightened security alert
Terrorist hotline is (877) a-threat for suspicious activity
No credible threats at this time have been received
Everyone should remain calm, but aware
Sheriff Baca:
Modified alert for LA County sheriff Department
Preventative measures being taken
Circumstances in London not specific to LA
London did not have warning, so we need to react as if we would not either
All trains will have patrol on board today
Bratton:
LAPD on modified tactical alert
Port, LAX and transportation hubs being protected
K-9 teams in play all day
All major cities following similar procedures
Urge citizens to stay calm. Stay alert
LA is prepared
During the question portion of the press avail, it was revealed that the US is upgrading to terror alert Orange for all transit hubs, but not for ports and airports.
Obviously, we here at the Sister City extend our thoughts and prayers to all of those involved.

My prayers and safe recovery for all our fellow human brothers and sisters in London. Attention all mechistas, this is when you should abolish color oriented ideologies and embrace humanity. Get over the fact of color and wish them well in London.
Speaking of color, since YOU brought it up, 9:58, tell me why you would bring up such issue in this thread? EVERYONE should abolish color oriented ideologies, especially those who highlight them.
Terrorists are here in LA and California, it is a question as to how integrated they are. Many of them have been allowed into our country since 9-11 (!) under a visa program for religious personnel. As we all comiserate with the citizens of London we must keep in mind that the Bush adminstration and it's liberal immigration policies may be responsible for allowing the critical mass needed for an attack of this magnitude to develop.

Sorry 10:16, there is no hidden message, agenda, or secret. It is plain and simple. Be good to your fellow human brothers and sisters. To recognize societies weakness such as a Mechistas mentality is my opinion. Respect it, and do as you wish with your opinions.

Immigration is a complex issue. So complex that our nations leaders individually have their own problems in dealing with this issue. The effectiveness of each countries ideas of immigration varies and in some cases it works and others it is severely crippling to foreign individuals that really do want to live a decent life.
Terrorism is the extreme form of liberalism in my point of view. Like it or not, this is a result of non accountability of an individuals or groups actions. They abide by no society rules or recognize no government entity unless it pleases the religious ideology of such terrorist group. Unfortunately, these sick individuals have taken a religion and hid behind it to use it as a purpose for destruction and mass chaos.
I would not want to be in Antonio's shoes for anything. Poor thing, everyone is saying how scared he looked this morning at press conf. What a terrible way to start your administration.
I have faith in Chief Bratton and our rank and file. LAX and the Federal Bldg. have been the #1 targets in LA. Thankfully, we have the best of the best right here in LA. Prayers for all those involved and for our women & men in blue who are working overtime to keep us safe.
Antonio has awaken to reality of political life. Not everything is cherry pickings...you see sometimes there is work to be done. This time, it is going to demand work from him, not just a pretty face.

The Mayor did a great job. Mayor Villaraigosa was up at 3:30 AM on the ball. Was on the subway this morning . . . held an early press conference televised nationally on CBS . . . This Mayor set a tone of calm, controlled leadership.
The former Mayor wouldn't have had anything together until mid-afternoon.
AV made it look as if we should panic.
