Future Subway Won’t Unblock Today’s Tie-Up

By HOWARD FINE

Los Angeles Business Journal Staff

As a candidate, Antonio Villaraigosa tantalized commuters with the dream of building a subway along Wilshire Boulevard to the ocean.

Some dream. Under the best political and economic circumstances, it would take billions of dollars and a decade or more to make it happen.

The word was that Jim was going to join Sidley Austin Brown & Wood. Oh, well, they will have to look elsewhere for a rainmaker.

Having his family in key positions making good money like Cynthia Ruiz. The LAUSD control thing was a sham, he hasn't said a word about more police officers and then he has the nerve to go on TV and aligned with that idiot Rev. Sharpton. This city is slowly going down the toliet.

We All Need to Remember Our History

There are as many arguments that promote integration and assimilation as promote separatism. What we need to be well aware of is the history nobody can deny. In a nutshell, and not to oversimplify:

1821: Spain accepts Mexican independence.

1836: Texas breaks free of Mexican rule.

1846-48: Mexico loses much of its territory in the Mexican-American War. Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo signed.

1867: American Union Army assists Mexico’s Benito Juarez, a democratic reformer, removes France from Mexico.

1910: Mexican Revolution.

1914: U.S. Marines enter Veracruz.

1916: U.S. chases Pancho Villa out of New Mexico.

1938: Mexico nationalizes PEMEX. Cardenas and Roosevelt sign Good Neighbor Policy.

1942: Mexico supports U.S. in WWII. Relations generally stable during postwar years.

1960s: Tourism industry thrives, Mexican nationalism rises.

1971: U.S. imposes 10 percent tariff on all imports, hurting Mexico, which sends almost 70 percent of its exports to the U.S.

1980s: Mexico supports nationalist movements in Nicaragua and El Salvador. U.S. drug war creates mutual tensions.

1992: North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) signed. U.S. moves plants to Mexico to exploit cheap labor.

1995: Devastating Mexican peso devaluation.

2003: Mexican population in U.S. reported to have increased 10 percent in just three years, mostly as a result of illegal immigration.

History is never pretty, but ultimately, each nation is responsible to its own citizens first (the U.S. apparently excepted). Since Mexico is unable to reform its endemic corruption, forcing the majority to live in poverty and squalor, it exports its economic problems to the U.S., then blames the U.S.

California is a state where many schools today, as a policy, suppress references to our nation’s Founding Fathers. Portraits of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson are prohibited. In San Francisco, a student needs a lawyer to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

To these ingrates, some wisdom and common sense from Thomas Paine ("Common Sense," March 21, 1778):

So we'll try here: How many hospitals have to close before someone admits the obvious – they are closing because indigent immigrant patients are served without paying? How many more emergency meetings will Villaraigosa be rushed to at L.A. high schools where black and Latino students are rioting over diminishing resources that now seem to be imbalanced in favor of newly arrived immigrants?

How is it possible to have any respect for the policies of Mexico when Mexico's President Fox makes racist comments about American blacks while treating the U.S. border as non-existent? Apparently Mr. Fox feels that the abject failure of his nation to provide any hope for its citizens is America's problem as well.

How is it possible to account for the state's spending and revenue crisis when millions are employed in the cash-only underground economy and don't file state and federal tax returns?

Since the Bush administration has decided to play stupid and the state Legislature busies itself with nonsense, it may be up to the new mayor, along with the governor, to show some guts and address the immigration challenges together (juntos).

But at this point the situation seems irreconcilable, with Mr. Villaraigosa in the open-borders corner and Arnold in the close (check that: controlled) borders corner. Maybe, like the 62 billboards said, L.A. really is in Mexico.

Anyone who has the ability to make an effective argument in favor of illegal immigration, please come forward, because the argument has never been made.

Chadwick burst on the scene a few years back by giving a ton of money to Gray Davis and getting appointed to the California Science Center Board, then getting elected to the Coliseum Commission.

He has screwed up the negotiations there for a new team for years; in fact he is probably more to blame for no professional football in LA than any other one person except maybe Al Davis.

Chadwick is a former lawyer and is not entitled to practice law. Those curious to know what that means have to look him up at the following, then pay to see the whole story...

THIS IS FOR U 8:43

"...In each of the 4 years that I have been a member of the state Assembly, we have had many "celebrations" on the Assembly floor. These "celebrations" are orchestrated by the Democrats who control the House and often involve singing and dancing. Every one of my 4 years have seen substantial celebrations of Cinco de Mayo (Commemorates the Mexican victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla), St. Patrick's Day (for the patron Saint of Ireland) and Chinese New Year's Day, among others. But never once have we celebrated America's Independence Day, the 4th of July.

So, this year, Republican Assemblyman Jay LaSuer of San Diego arranged for Vietnam war hero Admiral Jeremiah Denton to come to California to be a part of a 4th of July ceremony. As you may know, Admiral Denton was a Navy pilot in Vietnam who was shot down and spent 8 years in a Vietnamese prison...

The Democratic leadership refused to allow him on the Assembly floor and there will be no 4th of July celebration. A memo from the Democratic speaker's office said "problems have arisen both with regards to the spirit, content and participation of various individuals with regard to the ceremony." Apparently, they said that he did not believe in the "separation of church and state" and they didn't like the policies he supported as a United States Senator and therefore they would not allow him to be on the Assembly floor or to speak.

Upon hearing about this, Governor Schwarzenegger offered his meeting room last Monday for a ceremony with Admiral Denton. The room was overflowing with people. Only one elected Democrat was in attendance. A number of veterans of the last 4 wars were present. Admiral Denton gave a very moving speech about the 4th of July and about the undeniable commitment of our founding fathers' to their faith in God. He talked about how the war on terrorism may be the most difficult war we have yet fought. And he went on to say that he fears that partisan attacks on our mission and our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan sound too familiar to what he experienced in Vietnam. Following his speech, The Governor came out to personally spend time with him.

And, here's the email sent out by Democrat Speaker Fabian Nunez:

"Problems have arisen both with regards to the spirit, content and participation of various individuals with regard to the ceremony on June 28th. More importantly this celebration was intended to celebrate the Fourth of July. The celebration was represented as one resolution, a couple of speakers on each side of the resolution and a song. It has now turned into a ceremony more in line with Veterans Day and with ideological overtones that were not presented or agreed to. We are hoping these issues can be resolved - if not I doubt the Speaker will ok the proceedings."

Part of the Democrat's problem is certainly caused by partisanship. However, confusion probably also plays a role. Many of these Democrats are simply confused over which country they represent.

Padilla appointed to coastal panel
Chula Vista Mayor Steve Padilla on Wednesday was named to the California Coastal Commission at a time when his city has major development plans for its waterfront – plans that need commission approval.

Padilla was appointed to the San Diego Coast region seat by Speaker of the Assembly Fabian Nuñez. Padilla will replace San Diego City Councilman Scott Peters, who announced in April he would not seek reappointment.

"It's a great opportunity to do some good things for the coastline and the region," Padilla said.

For Chula Vista, it is an opportune time to have an ally on the commission. The city is working with the San Diego Port District to develop about 550 acres on Chula Vista's bay front into a regional attraction.

The agencies have created an overall land-use plan that calls for housing, retail shops, a commercial harbor, hotels, a conference center and about 200 acres for parks and open space.

These politicians are the problem, we have a solution, help Mexico become INDEPENDENT, and NOT DEPENDENT on the U.S. to give jobs and feed it's people. IT is not just MEXICO, we have people from other countries, such as Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala, China, Russia, Brazil, Phillipines. These countries depend on the USA, like welfare! The people come over and first thing they do, apply for welfare, it is not about color, it is about abuse of the system. What is happening is that MEXICO is just next door, so more Latin American Immigrants are crossing over (due to distance). All they do is get on public assistance, bankrupt Medical, and foodstamps, and work under the table (CASH). How many people do you know or have met that do this?

How many families lie and say they are single moms with no husbands, while the husband works for cash & fails to report this income, meanwhile the wife and 4+ kids receive welfare, medical, foodstamps and financial aid. A working family (honest working family) usually does not qualify for medical, and US citizens are denied MEDICAl based on income, regardless if they can or cannot afford healthcare. But, the illegal immmigransts cross over and voila-there you have FREE SOCIAL SERVICES---THE POLITICIANS THAT PUSH THIS ARE THE ONE'S I MENTIONED EARLIER. I'm not going to get into the tired conservative argument "it's illegal, it's in the name!". Obviously we all know what is going on. Arnold said what he said and meant it. He did not misspeak and he does not need to work on his english. I've told this to folks over and over again. Yes, I blame Mexico for not taking care of their citizens, thats why my grandparents left Mexico, for more opportunites in the US way back when, as I am sure your grandparents did.

But there is something to be said about taking care of your neighbors, your neighbors to the south.. The policies that have been enacted by the U.S. administration only set the ball rolling to harm its own citizens. We have killed our own factories and eliminated job opportunites in the states as well as those in Mexico, yes the trade imbalance, that, and someone getting a hair up their ass and deciding, lets send all the factory jobs to China. Forget about Mexico, let them feign for themsleves, lets go send all our shoe orders (for example) to China.

Mexico was known for their shoe companies, as soon as those closed down, guess what U.S.? Due to your corporate greed you have alot of hungry folks just south of you, and guess what? here they come. What about those policies? Nunez, Villaraisgosa, Molina, Becerra, Padilla, are only responding now to the result of those nationalistic policies, but in actuality they dont have much say, This topic as well as the solution needs to take place on a national basis. When you dont care of your neighbors and you are wealthy, guess what? pretty soon, those hungry and starving come knocking at your door, first asking for help in the beginning, but until you do something, then secondly, taking what they can. Youre right, its so easy to sign up for benefits that you have no right too, but whose fault is that? Theres not brainwashing here, just common sense. YOURE brainwashed. blaming folks instead of going to the soure of the greed. enough said.

1. Fabian is concerning me. Sounds like more than just your garden variety liberal.

2. Of course folks left Mexico cause it can't take care of it's people. Mexico is a shame of a country. It has tremendous natural resources, endless natural beauty and a wonderful people. The politicians there are so damn corrupt, it is not coming anywhere near its potential. Folks leave Mexico because its a hell hole, just like my forebearers left a shit hole called Europe. Same reason.

3. What the hell does any of this have to do with Poopy?

Pico Girl,

It may be off topic, but when have you seen or read a single thread on this blog that even stays on topic, its not new. We all deal with it and tolerate it. Sometimes it is amusing.

BTW I agree with you totally that our country is outsourcing jobs to the wrong countries. China, as you mentioned, is a perfect example of this. China has a party objective and they are suceeding in achieving the goal of overpowering the U.S. economically and soon military. Mexico is better off as an ally. History itself has proven that both countries can benefit together, but leadership in Mexico is extremely corrupt. I have family in Mexico, in government, take my word, they are corrupt. No one dares rat them out, why get killed for being a snitch, right?

China is the wrong place to send jobs and personal information to some middle easter countries. We can outsource jobs to Mexico, however Mexico will still promote illegal crossings, it only benefits them when dollars are sent back home. Fox should be more neighborly and send troops to Afghanistan, instead he concentrates on how many people are sent to the U.S to rape us economically and send us to a social service standstill.

Talk about GREED! Pico Girl, Greed is the following:

New immigrants that lie to the government and receive social services (checks, SSI, etc( while still living in Mexico. Yes, this does happen, fraud.

Immigrant families claiming they are single parents while one parent works for cash and goes unreported, still receiving money.

Greed is when you see an immigrant come to America to get on public welfare, while not paying a single cent of tax and driving around in a brand new SUV, while receivng food stams and claiming to be poor.

Greed is when you see an country with so much land and possibilites, such as Mexico, not take advantage and become self sufficient, instead they want more and more of the outside border dollars.

Greed is when the illegal immigrant crosses the border then sues the Border Patrol for grabbing them from the arm too hard.

Greed is when the illegal immigrant uses our free services through fraud statements and encourages others to do the same.

Greed is having a Quinceanera when you cannot even pay your bills.

Latino community is all about more and more and more and showing off what they don't have. Uncle sam is the only way they can survive.

Mayor Sam....Fabian is not just a left wing politician, that does not bother me, I have democrat & republican friends. My concern is his indepth ideology that is coherced to the people. His blatant disrespect to the American National Anthem and immediately submissive to the Mexican National Anthem.

What is Fabian Nunez's realy AGENDA in America?

Who are his closes friends and allys in politics, he opened a can of worms and it will not be shut until he faces the music from the people he falsely promoted to.

You are correct in saying that American does leave the back door open. We do, and it's not just Republicans but also Democrats. This isn't a partisan issue, but one where BOTH parties are equally culpable.

I don't blame ANYONE for wanting to come to this country. For as bad as some dipsticks like to blast it, it is one of the best we have.

However, I do lay blame on countries such as Mexico for this massive ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION problem. Mexico has no other reason for being in such a sad state other than greed and corruption. With Mexico only collecting 12% of its taxes, it can’t sustain any social services or infrastructure for its own citizens. In turn we, mainly Californians, are stuck footing the bill for subsidized healthcare, education and incarceration (just to name a few.)

So in response to your half ass response, I will continue to lambaste illegals when they refocus their so called “self-entitled” demands and redirect them to the rightful government... their own and not ours!

And in response to your comment about doing something...I am by making money and buying me a politician...after all don't they all have a price?

That video is a disgrace to America. Nothing innappropriate with singing anthems, only when you see the fascists reactions and comparisons to each one when they are played by the three amigos.

The man by the name of Juan Gutierrez must hate America, then why is he here, why doesn't he go back to Mexico and get a job in customs where he can get MORDIDAS (BRIBES/PAYOFFS) from drug traffickers.

He reminds me of thos dirty corrupt Mexican Politicians. Nunez is a sissy and supports this crap, why is the local television agencies not on this story?

Does anyone on this blog care about anything other than CD14 and Mexico?

This particular thread is about Poopy going to work for Chadwick, another guy in the mold of Acevedo, Abrahms, etc.

Did Poopy learn nothing from the licking he just took?

Any can you guys leave Mexico and CD 14 for a few moments and join the real world?

Mayor Sam, maybe you can get one of the early Alcaldes to re-appear and run some threads for these guys that can't stay on message.

No wonder the Democratic party cannot win in places where there is a reasonable balance of registered voters; you guys are all A.D.D.

Shame on you.

Jim Hahn was 1000% percent better than Tony Villar. Tony's pals have dragged the city to its lowest point since the '20s. He should take a meet&greeter job with an airlines. At least he'd be useful. He's obviously living in a paralled universe. His public comments about the SoCentral garden yeaterday were fraught with errors, intentional or not.
