Reasons Not to Answer Your Phone
We all hate those crank calls that come at dinner. For 6 individuals last night it was even worse.The phone went ringy ding ding and on the other end was a secretary telling them that they have been released from responsibility as Airport Comissioners. No word yet from the grand poobah as to when he will announce the replacements or why the move took place last evening, but Lydia Kennard is off jet setting and won't return back from vacation until later this week, so maybe that is the cause of the delay.
Any tips as to whom the replacements will be?

let us just hope this is only the beginning of the LAWA clean up - and not with Lydia, after all it is her cronies who have kept the place in disarray - like Blondie the Bimbo at VNY who was placed there as patronage to Lydia.

L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa softened his push for a City Hall takeover of Los Angeles public schools Monday, saying he wants to focus first on other educational measures, such as initiatives to improve campus safety. Villaraigosa, who made the city’s underperforming public schools a central focus of his new administration, said he will convene a panel of education experts on July 29 to advise him on how to assist the Los Angeles Unified School District on safety, health care and after-school programs. While he said the mayor should be in charge of schools, Villaraigosa refused to say when – or if – that should happen, Copley News Service reported.

Hey Tom Cat - correct me if I am wrong. My source well up LAWA's you know what told me that the Bimbo at VNY was put there by Lydia before she even qualified for being an Airport Manager at some Analyst position because said Bimbo was such a great clerk in LAX security - like that has anything to do with general aviation! So do I need a new source? Regardless, the glorified clerk does need to go - SP
Bet on either Martin Ludlow or Bob Hertzberg to take the helm on the airport commission.
If Lydia comes back as a commissioner, things will remain status quo. Lydia flattened out the airport heirarchy from the top. LAWA went from one executive director and three deputies to over a dozen or so deputies today, many of whom were appointed by her. As commssioner instead of director, Lydia will more likely give policy direction for the airport system as a whole.
Now, we can only hope that MAV will dismiss the Harbor Commission next - all of them.
hey sky pilot..your probably right on your info. one thing 4 sure she has to go. may be they can dismantle that bogus p/r staff she caters 2 after they toss her out! i would like 2-c an audit on the amount of cash is spend on the bogus open house they throw every year. its funny how a consultant is on the pay roll when the p/r dept has a full time staff. any way toss out the glorified clerk and her cute little personal organizer she carries around! such an office drone. off with her head!!!

Mayor Prepares to Replace Airport Commissioners

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who wants to pare down the $11-billion plan to
modernize Los Angeles International Airport, is taking steps to put his own
nominees on the Airport Commission.
Five of the seven commissioners received calls this week thanking them for
their service, the mayor's office said Tuesday, an indication that he will
overhaul the body that oversees the city's airports.
One commissioner, whose term expired June 30, did not receive a call. The
commission has one vacancy.
Villaraigosa's representatives said "the mayor would be selecting an Airport
Commission and they wanted to put me on notice," said Jerome Stanley, who
was appointed in 2004 by former Mayor James K. Hahn. "But they requested
that we stay on until they're confirmed."
The mayor plans to announce his appointees within the next few weeks, said
spokeswoman Janelle Erickson. "He's looking forward to getting a fresh start
at the airport," she said.
AIRPORTS COMMISSIONERS, BOARD OF Seven members; five-year terms
Qualifications: Must be a registered voter residing within the City. At least one Board Member must reside within the area surrounding Los Angeles International Airport. At least one Board Member must reside within the area surrounding Van Nuys Airport, as those areas are defined by ordinance.
Description: The Board of Airport Commissioners shall have possession, management and control of all airports, airport sites, and all equipment, accommodations and facilities for air commerce and navigation belonging to the City of Los Angeles. The Board shall fix, regulate and collect rates or charges for the use of all facilities that are owned, controlled or operated by the City in connection with air commerce and navigation. The Department has control over its own revenues or funds, and expenditures of all bond funds relating to its facilities or activities. The Board regulates and controls all concessions, public service and public utilities operated upon or in any airport under its control. The Board has the power to grant franchises, permits and licenses to (the term of such, may not exceed 50 years), and to enter into lease with, any person, firm or corporation, or agency of the government for the use of any municipally-owned or controlled airport or any part thereof, except that the term of such lease may not exceed 99 years, or as permitted by State law, whichever is less, and be subject to a readjustment of rental compensation every 10 years during its term.
Doesn't Lydia live outside the City of Los Angeles in Altadena? If true, does her lack of residency and being a registered voter within the City disqualify her from service on the Airport commission?

Now that he fired all the commissioners, the Mayor has no choice but to appoint some one like Lydia with plenty of experience. People who knew her when she served on the Planning Commission in the early 90's say she is well suited for the position. Obviously, if she is going to be on the commission, she must have decided to move back to the City proper. I give it a 50/50 chance.
Several of the experienced commissioners that Mayor Hahn fired (i.e. Valdry and Walter) have the needed expereince to serve on the Commission. Perhaps they should be considered since they, like Mayor AV, questioned the $11 billion expansion plan and stood up to Ted Stein. For those honorable deeds, they were terminated by Mayor Hahn. Their return would be justice in the truest sense.
MAV needs to think outside the LAWA and bring someone in as ED who hasn't been corrupted by the way things have always been done. There needs to be a nation wide search that isn't just 'for appearances' Kim is just a Lydia clone and Lydia is just a product of that environment - they just do it because that is how they have always done it at LAWA - no rhyme or reason needed - well except for the $$ changing hands, of course. There needs to be fresh blood at the top who can breath some much needed vitality into a dead organ..

If you view the bios of the current commissioners on the LAWA web site, you'll note than about half live outside the city of Los Angeles.
Anonymous reported that the bios of several current airport commissioners show residences outside Los Angeles. I double checked the bios. Some commissioners list the sections of Los Angeles in which they reside (Encino, Playa del Rey, monterey Hills) rather than just "Los Angeles." Nevertheless, those are portions of Los Angeles. No commissioner's bio identified the commissioner as living outside the city limits.
While we're at it, the term "blonde bimbo" to describe the airport manager at VNY seems a bit misplaced. Perhaps sour grapes from some applicants from the recent Airport Manager civil service recruitment process? When all applicants were peer reviewed as part of the rating process, the "blonde bimbo" came out No. 1 on the list. Where did the complainers come out -- if they even subjected themselves to peer review as part of the civil service evaluation and rating process. Even some normally adversarial officials and member advocates in local unions have positive things to say about the VNY Airport Manager. Conclusion: the "blonde bimbo" may be a blonde, but a bimbo she is not.
in regards to the "bimbo" she sucks!!! get some one who can make decisions and not run back to lax every time. the civil service process in los angeles is a joke. try this out at the next meeting she attends...ask a question in regards to the jet center property being developed...wait and see if her reply is...i'll get back to u on that. she has no authority to do squat!!! place some one in that position with aviation exp not a clerk!!!

you said it all rotar head. maybe bimbo is too kind - blonde puppet is a more appropriate? as far as civil service all it takes is being an insider and getting told what the questions are going to be ahead of time - it happens all the time. have BB I mean BP interview at a real airport manager job - see where she scores then. then she couldn't run back to LAX to get her answers and she'd be back as a clerk like she belongs.
Isn't a real test of how good a manager is - the quality of their staff and how the tenants veiw them? Let's see, until LAX intervened the VNY top cop was out screwing around on City time, VNY Ops Chief is doing the same thing both at VNY and up in Palmdale, PR budget is out of control and many VNY employees have never even met airport manager - and the tenants have no clue who she is. And those that do have little regard for her. And needless to say, there is much deceit, disdain and dissatisfaction overall at the VNY Airport. But hey she did great on some hypothetical questions to prove what a great airport manager she is. And that's what counts? Gotta love that criteria.

No one is allowed to make a decision at LAWA. The Mayor's office runs the show. ALL of the exec staff is afraid ALL of the time and they micromanage everyone else's projects.
It is funny that you people would fall for this. Its a joke. A long standing joke by LAWA to see if anybody can pick out the clowns. Well, that IDIOT that ran the Mcdonalds cops left, and now it is better for us all. There is freakin a millionn of them. Who is responsable? I would have to say the manager, or Blonde Bimobo if you want to call her that. But it is good finally having police here
