CD12 Wars Continue

Just when you thought it was safe to go back into Northridge, get ready for the next skirmish in the Greig Smith-Jim Alger Battle of District 12.

As you may remember, we reported last week that Councilman Smith announced his support for a controversial Wal-Mart development in his District, one that the Northridge West Neighborhood Council opposes. Key to this, was the Councilman's additional annoucement of a $166,000 "voluntary" fund contribution he was asking of Wal-Mart, which some Neighborhood Council members describe as nothing short of a bribe.
"This is far from over. This is another form of pay to play and it has to stop. "
Jim Alger
At tonight's meeting of the Neighborhood Council, Agenda Item #4 is listed as "Discussion and possible action regarding Councilman Greig Smith's comments on Wal-Mart." Alger says he is considering suing Smith, if necessary.

Neighborhood Council President and Assembly candidate Jim Alger tells us, "This is far from over." Alger and his colleagues are looking at ways to force restrictions on how Smith spends the Wal-Mart money, including going to the State Legislature.

Sounds to me like Smith bit off more than he can chew with this crew. Although limiting how and where Smith spends his bribe money is certainly a new twist!

For Smith to attack the Neighborhood Council, in writing, in a room packed with supporters certainly was stupid.

For the Neighborhood Council to hold Smith accountable for selling out his community is beyond honorable. Kudos to the Northridge West Neighborhood Council. I wish more councils did there job as well.

Didn't Smith support Hahn? Birds of a feather flock together.

Smith will be the next Public Safety Chair, courtesy of Alex Padilla, who he supported for re-election to Presidency. Sorry, Jack Weiss!

The Public Safety chair was actually payment from Antonio for Smiths sellout on Sunshine Canyon.
