The Roderick-Mailander Wars
Here are two guys who spend a lot of time writing good stuff on their blogs, and to top it off, have a great collection of supplemental material tied to their sites.
Clearly, its indicative of a culture war in the over the hill progressive white world. 310 vs. 323, chablis vs. martinis, Eric Clapton vs. Brian Setzer, etc.
Here in the 818, we're more the beer and preztel set, but I happen to have always been more of a Corona and Cuervo drinker - and can make the case that the best tamales in LA are in the Valley - so I guess I am prepared for the coming era. All I can say is white people better get hip to Latino culture or face being lost in the dust. Having the privelege of growing up in the 70s in a majority Latino neighborhood, I am not at all going to face culture shock like my other fellow honkies.
But I digress. The bottom line is that no matter what happens, Roderick will continue to be full of shit, but we can benefit from that. We don't care what the architecture editor for Harvard Magazine has to say, but we sure do love reading about the old ice cream stands in Van Nuys! Mailander screeds against anything Republican, but he can make one hell of a martini.
The difference is that Roderick will never admit he is full of shit. Mailander too can be full of shit, but at least he sometimes admits it. Mailander will let you attack him on his blog, but Roderick will not.
The best tack in this whole mess however, comes from good old Mack Reed - the one non-village idiot of the blogosphere - he's not getting into it.
In the meantime, stick with the Sister City for all the inside poop on City Hall. Between myself, Chief Parker and that old fossil Frank Shaw, we'll get it to you.

Mayor Sam,
WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT??
This has nothing to do with ADV. Why are you even worried about dumb ass blogs out there?

Today is a sad day here at the Sister City. Once filled with promise, this degenerate blog has digressed to publishing other people’s disagreements in hopes of attracting new readers. Instead of talking about substantive issues, Mayor Sam has decided to chime in on the childlike behavior of other bloggers in hopes that they might care what some no-named blogger from Los Angeles thinks.

What's next - recipes?

Mayor Sam has you fooled - he's got you idiots posting! Not much to do up on the third floor these days, ehh? I hear packing boxes are at a premium.

I would say so. In not so many words, he's showing you how Roderick stepped on his dick on the whole Guerra story issue. Coupled with Chief Parker's excellent piece on Pulido, the Mayor Sam boys have once again exposed Roderick and other Hahnistas out there as the big pussies they are. Shame, shame.

FUCK ANTONIO AND HIS BULSHIT MAYOR SAM. WHERE ARE THE 80 NEIGHBORHOOD WATCHES. YOU GOT ANTONIO BE PREPARED TO LIVE IN MEXICO PUTO.
Joseph Mailander said:
I don't think it's insignificant to note here that a "South LA uprising" is already mounting against Antonio, and that the unlikely, ex-urbis Daily Breeze of all papers appears to be spearheading it. The guy hasn't been a day in office yet, but already Kotkin/Roderick/Zahniser are attempting to fan flames of discontent with the guy, sliming his less sympathetic, more vulnerable supporters, and using utterly scurrilous tactics to achieve the slime. Keep an eye on it, Sam--there may not be quite as many page views as on May 16--or, hopefully, there will be--but I assure you journos know what's going on, and are watching closely. Your storyline here is the logical followup to active pre-election blogging.

Mailander truly is the village idiot. All hatred and no brains, and his political analysis is always wrong. To wit: Kotkin/Roderick/Zahniser...
What a fool. Aren't you going to lump the Jewish Journal in your conspiracy this time, white boy Mailander?

This is ridiculous. We should not be paying attention to this. If you blog "hosts" want to be journalists, you all should act like it. There is no need to have this type of back and forth. Grow up.

Mayor sam is instigating...must be boring hanging out with Antonio and ignoring you all day.

Martin Ludlow should stay on the City Council and serve out his full term. We need representation, not elected officials who are always ready to jump ship when something better comes along.
Martin, stay on City Council! Work for the people who elected you!
Joseph Mailander said:
BTW, Sam, the best tamales in LA are at La Moscata, 2715 Whittier. But if you've got a suburban Valley candidate, I'll try.
(Which leads me to wonder why Roderick objects to being called a "suburban white guy" so much. Didn't he grow up and go to school in the Valley? And didn't he write a book about that place called: "The San Fernando Valley: America's Suburb?" And isn't he indeed a white guy? I can understand a guy growing away from his roots, but this looks like a complete forsaking.)
I guess with the new book on Wilshire coming, he's trying to go more "metrosexual"?

Metrosexual? Roderick? Wow! Another self-hating valleyite.

Mayor Sam
Another topic please, or this thread will suffer going off topic like the others.

Roderick has his panties in a bunch cause he was once the only game in town, but now challenged by Mayor Sam, Boi from Troy and especially LA Voice. He is a spoiled little valley kid from the 50s.
Mailander on the other hand is a complete fucking wack job.

This is what Kevin is now posting. What a pompous ass!
[* But thanks to everybody who emailed their support and shared tales of run-ins with the village idiot of the L.A. blogosphere. He's deleting critical comments today and posting bizarre stuff on other websites, and I'm starting to think he might even be a bit dangerous. I regret sending the new traffic his way—won't happen again.]
Anonymous said:
Yeah we all know Mailander is a wack job, but he's also got reading comprehension issues. Roderick didn't complain about being called a suburban white guy. He blew up at Mailander calling him a racist for being a SWG.
Anonymous said:
Most westside liberals are racist, that's why they hate being called racist.
Anonymous said:
I, anonymous, call upon Kevin Roderick to cite evidence that points to Mailander's "dangerous" tendencies. At first glance, that's far more of a smear than anything Mailander has posted.
Anonymous said:
Wow Kevin, better listen up a VERY important person “Anonymous” is calling on you for answers. I know when anonymous people posting on an anonymous blog want answers they mean it!! Seriously Kevin, you better justify yourself or else anonymous may not read LAObserved anymore, and I am sure you would really miss him/her. Back to the subject: Joe is dangerous because he doesn’t know the difference between his ass and his mouth – especially after a few martinis.
Anonymous said:
You gotta hand it to Roderick. Considering what a complete and thin-skinned pussy he is, he's pretty underhanded.
In response to being called a "suburban white guy" he's labelled Mailander an "anti-semite" and "dangerous" while calling him a host of names and simultaneous pretending to claim some sort of moral high ground.
Anonymous said:
It's also kind of funny that Roderick is accusing him of "deleting critical comments" when he himself is too craven to even permit them on his blog.
And what a thoughtless ass he is for not pointing out the "other sites" Mailander is "posting bizarre stuff" at so we can read it. I can't say that Roderick has really distinguished himself here.
Anonymous said:
Kevin you stepped on your dick one too many times.
Anonymous said:
Really, the newest Bernard Parks story is the most interesting of all.
Who knows about it?
That should have it's own headliner.

No wonder this blog has lost soooo many intelligent people. Word citywide is that people are reading LAOBSERVED. They get all this nonsense but the stories. I give this blog til the end maybe of July. I know tons of people who have left and for good reason.
Mayor Sam and Chief Parker are behaving like little juveniles. Very immature and totally paranoid that possibly others are getting the attention they so desperately need,
Anonymous said:
6:57 PM - And yet you are dumb enough to still come here, read the comments and post. So much for your theory. There are plenty more dum-dums like you blogging away.

What does the phrase "stepping on your dick" mean? I've never heard that in my life.
