Mayor Sam Is Coming Along

In just nearly two months of being "on the air" Mayor Sam is doing quite well. It has assumed most of the mantle of the Fourth Floor Blog (we even got a thumbs up from the original Fourth Floor blogger). We are getting mentioned in other blogs such as LA Voice and LA Observed. We are syndicated by Bloglines. We've been mentioned in Rick Orlov's column. We're even moving up in value on Blogshares! Today, we discovered that LA Observed is now linking to us which is very cool!

Now the one thing we'd like to achieve is to get a Bob Hertzberg ad like the other blogs. That would be a real thing!

HOLD THE FORT TWO ISSUES MAYOR SAM MUST INVESTIGATE:

1. HAHN IS CLAIMING CREDIT FOR A DEAL WITH THE CITY OF INGLEWOOD AND LAX IN TODAY'S NEWS, LIKE IT WAS HIS IDEA UNDER HIS WATCH. CHECK IT OUT MAYOR SAM.

I WILL BET YOU WILL FIND THAT THIS DEAL WAS WORKED OUT UNDER RIORDAN'S ADMNISTRATION, WHEN LAX WOULD BE MAKING MORE MONEY WITH IT'S EXPANSION PLANS TO PAY THE FUNDS TO INGLEWOOD FOR RETROFITTING, ETC. NOW, WITH HAHN CLAIMING CREDIT FOR THE DEAL, HE NEGLECTS TO MENTION THAT UNDER HIS 'NO EXPANSION' PLANS IT WILL BE MORE MILLIONS AND MILLIONS OF DOLLARS OUT WITH NOTHING IN RETURN !!!! TAKE CREDIT FOR THAT 'JACKAL JIM' HAHN !!!

2. AGAIN IN TODAY'S NEWS THE HOTEL DEAL NEAR STAPLES CAME TO LIGHT. WE ARE 'LENDING' THE DEVELOPER MILLIONS (FROM WHAT SOURCE SINCE WE HAVE BEEN TOLD WE ARE BROKE) TO MAKE THE DEAL, MILLIONS IN TAX INCENTIVES, HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN PERMIT WAIVERS, THE CITY BEING RESPONSIBLE FOR BUILDING MILLIONS OF INFRASTRUCTURE COSTS FOR THE DEVELOPERS, ETC,ETC,ETC.

HOW COME WE CAN FIND RESOURCES TO 'LOAN MILLIONS', 'WAIVE MILLIONS' AND 'PAY THE COST OF BUILDING MILLIONS OF INFRASTRUCTURE' FOR THIS BUT 'NONE' FOR COPS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CAN'T WE 'LOAN' THE DEPARTMENT MONEY TO BUILD THE FORCE SO THAT BUSINESS WILL WANT TO COME INTO THE COMMUNITY 'WITHOUT'HAVING TO PROVIDE ALL THESE FREE BENEFITS? DON'T WE REALIZE THAT AS LARGE AS DEVELOPMENT LIKE THIS WILL COST THE CITY MILLIONS IN JUST COMPLIANCE ISSUES.

HEY, I AM NOT ANTI DEVELOPMENT, I AM ANTI STUPID CASH GIVEAWAYS. WHILE THE MAYOR RANTS AND RAVES ABOUT NO PUBLIC MONEY GOING INTO BRINGING THE BILLION DOLLAR FOOTBALL TO LA, HE DOESN'T HAVE THE SAME CONCERNS WITH GIVING MULTIBILLIONAIRES AND MULTIMILLIONAIRES WHO ARE PRIVATE DEVELOPERS MONEY TO BUILD THEIR OWN HOTEL.

HEY, IF WE REALLY ARE ACTING AS PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTNERS, WHERE IS THE CITY'S INTEREST IN THE PROJECT WHEN IT SELLS, WHEN IT IS REFINANCED, ETC. SHOULDN'T WE, THE PEOPLE OF LOS ANGELES, HAVE A REAL PROPERTY INTEREST IN THE BUSINESS ITSELF THAT IT HAS HELPED FINANCE TO THE TUNED OF HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS WHEN IT IS ALL SAID AND DONE.

HEY, JACKAL JIMMY, WAKE UP, EVEN YOU CAN'T BE THAT DULL OR UNCARING !!!!

MAYOR SAM,
CAN WE START A THREAD ABOUT WHAT 'JACKAL JIM HAHN' HAS NOT DONE THAT HE PROMISED TO DO OR COULD HAVE DONE IN HIS 'FOUR' YEARS IN OFFICE ?

WE HEAR HIM BSing ABOUT WHAT HE HAS DONE BUT IT SEEMS SOOOOOO HOLLOW AND SO LITTLE AS TO WHAT HE PROMISED HE WOULD DO OR COULD HAVE DONE.

Assumed the mantle? Hardly. There's no insider info the the FF featured. Just a lot of name calling. The nicknames were amusing in the beginning but now it's getting old plus it's just preventing you and your site from gaining any credibility. Milk those nicknames for all it's worth. A cheap way to get a react when writing skills are lacking. Better pat yourself on the back now for your associations. There won't be any real journalists or public figures associating with your blog much longer.

How about a thread asking your readers to rate the questioners of the 'great debate'?

Ron Kaye or Kay was surprisingly objective, even putting his own Valley boy Hertzberg on the spot.

The latino anchor.....became annoying with his Spanish greeting before each question.

Connie Williams did well, but put more pressure on some candidates and left others alone(noteably POOPIE !!!

Your thoughts ?

Mayor Sam,

May we recommend a new thread or a space on your first web page where your writers can recommend new ideas or TIPS on hot news items ?

Thoughts on some of the above:

1) To the Jackal Jimmy guy - please stop using all caps. Its equivalent to shouting and makes me not want to read it. It seems as if you have some good points, but I just get too fatigued to read them. Remember, I am dead.

2) To our detractor who thinks we are getting a little passe and old hat: your opinion is welcome. We are not professional journalists, we are dead politicians with a point of view. We don't go for the lock step city line and yes we do lean a little conservative. We are presenting an alternative viewpoint to that you will get from the self concerned, snobbish, elite city leaderhip and their lackeys. Indeed, we don't have all the dish, dating news and intra-fourth floor squabbles FFB did. However, in light of the blogs which emerged following the shut down of the Fourth Floor, only this one remains head and shoulders above and provides the opportunity for insiders to post and dish. To the extent that we have been accepted by the local blog community, local journalists, politicians, and others (even FFB#1 him/herself) is really quite remarkable considering we've been here less than two months. Its also remarkable considering that we are nobodies posing as dead politicians. Yes we are a bit over the top and a bit bombastic. That is part of our charm, as it was Mayor Sam's himself.

3) As far as a thread of what "Jackal Jimmy" hasn't done...well that could take up a whole blog. We prefer to take specific issues and events and discuss them. For sure, we have dissected Mayor Poopy quite a bit and will most likely continue to do so. Feel free to post comments accordingly to any articles on the blog.

4)Regarding the debate panel. Yes, they were less than spectacular. I would like to see Rick Orlov and Jill Stewart in the next debate. If you wish to comment on the debate, we have at least a few debate articles you can post comments on.

5) Regarding a space for tips. This is a very good idea. We have stated in the past that tips can be sent to mayorsamyorty@aol.com however as we continue to re-design and add to the site, we will add a link on the blog to send tips and such in.

Our hope is to make Mayor Sam's Sister City one of the best - and most fun - blogs covering the local scene. Your input and participation is key to that and we appreciate it.

Idea:

Can we first find out the cost of adding one police officer to the street. The real cost.

Then lets have a reporter go to each general manager and ask them how many police officers they can provide to the City but cutting their budget. The one who provides the most should get a one time bonus equal to 10% of the annual salary of the number of police officers his/her department provided by cuts !!!

If memory serves correctly, I believe that one officer= about$100,000
