I Wish I Was Smart Enough To Read Between The Lines On This...

From LA Times web site. Please post the "real deal holyfield" on this under comments, so ZD can form an opinion:

Schwarzenegger would require 10 current or retired county registrars or city election clerks to create a 55-person pool of candidates for the new Citizens Redistricting Commission. Senate leader Don Perata raised alarms about this issue yesterday. He notes that elections officials often are beholding to county supervisors. And there is nothing a county supervisor wants more than to be elected to the Legislature. So that's the first potential conflict of interest.

Then the Assembly Speaker, Senate president pro tem, and the two minority leaders would each be allowed to reject two members from "partisan subpools" of Republicans and Democrats. From these final pools, the state Fair Political Practices Commission would randomly draw 11 names to create the Citizens Redistricting Commission.

Legislative leaders would have a chance to reject the random FPPC drawing and send the whole thing back for another round - if they feel the citizens panel does not represent the "state's diversity." Legislative leaders could do this three times before the final panel is picked. In addition, lawmakers and the governor would set the budget for the Citizens Redistricting Commission.

Read the proposed language of the governor's plan here. (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/politicalmuscle/)

Republicans already have signaled they like the idea of redistricting. Assembly GOP leader Mike Villines, seen in photo with Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez, is pushing his own plan. But the Democratic Party has the most to lose by the Schwarzenegger proposal because it could erode their power base in Congress and the Legislature.

Of course the Speaker is upset! Redistricting means he can't run for CD 1 and the Mayor can't run for governor. Which is just as well, as they are both crooks!

How does it mean, "speaker can't run...and Mayor can't run for governor?" (please break it down for zd)

Zuma - the speaker has in mind to run for CD1 when Reyes is termed out, and the Mayor has in mind to run for Governor. Redistricting means that a secure voter registration base isn't so secure anymore. But then again, a little healthy competition is better for all of us, no?

Redistricting for what good reason is this for? Its just re-lobbying effort here.

Redistricting has nothing to with running for governor, its a statewide race. Also has nothing to do with LA city council seats since the City draws the districts, not the state. get your shit straight before you go off on something, idiot.

Zuma I like that at least you're trying but there is no way you wrote this post. Its very interesting though and thanks for the info. Well well well little Alvin Parra has kicked started his campaign and surprisely people who campaigned for Huizar are now going to his side. Huizar may have the money and endorsement but Alvin has all the dirt and its already getting ugly. At least Alvin is telling people what really went on in the field offices.

The PEOPLE have the most to gain; who cares about erosion of Democrat's power?

Let's have elections instead of anointments.

Who wants the primaries to decide each race? That is wrong; a proper redistricting benefits everyone.

And, who cares what a grubby, unshaven, dark glasses wearing loudmouth thinks, anyway?

Phillip's [Krakover] first three paragraphs are correct on this subject. The party of the majority in California politics pays lip service to the idea of fairness, yet when threatened with the erosion of their long-term control of State Government, will cut loose with howls of protest!

The State Government should be glad I'm not in control of reapportionment, I would hear a storm of protest from ALL of the registered political parties in California! I would carve the state up in sections that would resemble a checkerboard by population count AND geographic locations, starting with the northwestern portion of the state and work my way east by southeast. I would use the state constitution as my guide regarding population count, and not have regard for any political party... no matter what they offered and no matter what my own political affiliation is!

THAT plan would reflect unity, rather than diversity, as we diverse people ALL happen to be Californians first! This "diversity" catchword sounds rather divisive to me. It doesn't seek to promote unity, but rather division.

Zuma, I would take the stand that reapportionment would be a good thing; I just don't think this particular plan would work well. I would suggest that a better plan would be to have a blind "lottery" drawing from the master list of State DMV license holders for members of this reapportionment commission.

what are you talking about, helloooooooooo......... Reyes just got a four year extention on his term remember. Fabian could run but it would be against Reyes, unless they cut a deal and reyes left early and swaped seats with Fabian.

Did everyone hear Richard Alarcon gave San Fernando Mayor Nury Martinez the boot. She did not make the cut for the new assembly team. Alex Padilla didn't even value her loyalty. I hear he even laughed when she asked for a job with his senate office.

Where oh where will the mortgage come from. Surely not from the San Fernando council salary of $674/mo.

Wait let me check...I think Gerry Guzman (her husband) is putting up the for-sale sign on their San Fernando home. Yup, she's moving back home to mommies and she's pissed at Alarcon. She's gonna run against him in her hometown ghetto, Pacoima (or as she so lovingly refers to it "Pacas") Watch out the CD 7 seat is about to get heated. The "ghetto princess" and the parasitic "Savior of the poor" are about to duke it out!

Cut to scene 7: The ghetto princess sits her fat ass-atate on the parasitic Savior. He eats. He explodes!

Cut to final Scene: March 2007 election night....Montanez's celebration as she wins the CD 7 council seat by a landslide...monica rodriguez begging for Montanez's endorsement for the LAUSD school board seat, felipe fuentes runs to fill the vacated Assembly seat.

The NE Valley lives happily ever after....NOT!

8:35... you're correct. With the passage of Prop R, 12:29 needs to reassess his argument.

12:29, Term Limits have been most severely "cut" back... from eight years to twelve!
