ZD's laptop out of the pawn shop...Get ready for waaaay more ZD!
Thanks to a couple DJ/Karaoke bookings last weekend, Big ZD was able to get his bling-bling iBook G4 laptop out of the pawn shop and into a free wi-fi location. This means, get ready for waaaaay more Zuma Dogg.
Like, starting tonight or tomorrow, I will be launching the "Zuma Dogg Podcast" right here on Mayor Sam to discuss things that I don't get to cover on City TV 35 or AM Talk Radio. It'll be political, but fun. A place where I can playback radio airchecks, voicemails to ZD from people, singing and rapping. (If you want to leave a voicemail to be played back on the ZD/Mayor Sam podcast, call the phone number posted on my website at www.ZumaDogg.com and leave a message.)
Meanwhile, City Council is on recess for tomorrow's (12/05/06) City Council meeting. But here are a few juicy items that don't have anything to do with dogg food that may affect a constituent, or two out there. (I like the ITA report, because it will keep the state from interfering with local franchise cable fees [affecting Time Warner], protecting the public access departments of these cable franchises; and allow money for City TV 35 camera and audio operators. And that means money to keep ZD on TV from his private Van Nuys remote Council Chambers.)
Maybe I can bring my karaoke set-up so I can sing in between agenda items, since no one else is ever there. Anyway, podcast coming soon. And remember, no Council meeting tomorrow means shadiness, fraud, waste and abuse gets the day off and we all get break!

Good evening ladies and gentlemen (places strap to bass guitar over shoulders and starts to play):
Every band needs a bard, and Mr. Dogg seems to be the bard in this particular merry band of do-gooders. Bravo, I say! Our bard is more a poet at heart than a Geraldo Rivera sort (like Mr. Dogg), but can't play a dulcimer to save his life. He does, however, play in a certain house band of television fame.

Hey Zuma... Have you filed for Council yet? C'mon, filing fees are only 300 dollars!
I can imagine one campaign slogan already:
"VOTE FOR ZUMA DOG: THE MAN ON THE STREET"

Dec 9th is the first day i can file in padilla's district if i still feel like it. have some other big things coming up in january, so i have to decide in the next week, do i feel like giving up being ZD (the people's advocate), to run for council, or do i stay on this side of the rope and possibly expand my media platform early next year, which would be more fun and might actually allow me to be more effective than if i were to actually run for city council. (aks bill rosendahl what i mean.)

Mayor Sam,
I'm tired of Captain Jackass Posts.

Today black protests KFI. The funny thing about htis is that only 2 blacks showed up with a press release saying they were protesting. One was that idiot Eddie Jones who always goes to council and talks about racism and the other was some woman. John & Ken KFI made fun of them like you wouldn't believe. These 2 blacks who were protesting on behalf of blacks need to take some English lessons. They were horrible. Did I miss something? When did the African Americans start calling themselves Afro-Americans? I've heard that by some blacks recently.

Ahoy un-non-y-mouse 9:16 pm! Thou mayest be tired of Sparrow's posts, but ye mayest be sure that I am not!
Zuma, me good man! Thou should indeed file thine candidacy papers! Thou wilt makest the other candidates fidget uncomfortably with thy comments and logic! Imagine, having a "pirate crew" do thine campaigning for thee! As the city slumbers, the pirate crews post thy campaign signs all about the district; obeying of course, the City rules of election!
Aye, and the compensation due a councilmember is quite unusually lucrative! A virtual king's ransom awaits in payment - over $149,000 annually!
Mayest I quote from Wikipedia: "Each city council member earns an annual salary of $149,159. This makes them the best paid city council members in the country. The council member is also entitled to a $1,000,000 annual discretionary fund which they could use to fund whatever project they want. Each council member is given the funds to operate their office including the salaries of their staff. Therefore, the salaries set by the council member determine the size of the staff. Each council member on average has a staff of about 20 people. They also get a free car."
Thou shouldst file thy candidacy papers; use thine ribbons, emblems, and sealing wax. Thou shouldst offer a square deal for this fair city's citizenry!
Ye have made a name for thyself, now busy thyself and shake some'at up a bit! Yonder City Hall shouldest never be the same, the Dogg shall serve the citizenry of his district!

Of course ZD should run. Why not? With little chance of winning the pressure is off. He can rap, dance, let loose, and turn the race into a media circus.
And to my favourite privateer, the king's ransom for clowncil members will increase to $171,000 next year. (Compared to their counterparts in New York City who will earn $112,000)

Zuma could campaign on an issue such as financial conservatism perhaps? Campaign for office by asking voters, "When was the last time you could vote yourself your own salary increase?" Entertain the notion that he would favor a city-wide referendum rolling back these salary increases?
Campaigning like that would put incumbents in other districts on the defensive QUICK! He might even be able to form an election ticket for other district challengers!

As much as I love Zuma Dogg, I don't think I want to see him run for council. I like what he's doing right now. If he turns into one of "them", he won't be the voice of "us".
Wait Zuma. Give it to the next election.

Stephen Foster - You have come up with the most brilliant and reasonable idea presented in LA in 2006. How do we unite to push for city-wide referendum to roll back the latest City Council pay increase? They voted it in, they have clearly demonstrated they have done nothing to deserve it (i.e., standard corporate guidelines equate to actions/results=merit increase. Our current council members should be put on performance probation, not given raises!

9:12, if we could somehow persuade the employee labor unions that striking against the taxpayer is not as effective as campaigning and gathering signatures for a city-wide referendum rolling back these salary increases for the council (and mayor included). (Please forgive the previous run-on sentence.) Perhaps someone on the blog with knowledge of how to write a city-wide referendum could help with this, and get it on the ballot?
The referendum should roll back these salaries to $100,000 and tie their salary increases to the same rate as what the city is offering the various employee labor unions in the city).
