Because You Asked: Tater Tot Casserole Recipe
Ask anyone from the Hawkeye State and indeed you'll find that tater tot casserole is THE national dish of Iowa.I am sure Barack Obama ate a lot of it.
There is something so delightfully Caucasian about this less than healthy dish. But its easy to make and its delish.
Here is my own recipe:
One pound of ground turkey (you can use beef but I like turkey)
One bag of frozen tater tots
1-2 bags of frozen French cut green beans, peas and carrots or both
One cup of diced onions
One can of toasted onions
Two cans of cream of mushroom or cream of celery soup
-Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
-Sautee the turkey in a pan. Use olive oil, Pam or whatever to slightly grease the pan. Use your favorite spices but don't overdo it. A little salt and pepper is really enough.
- Sautee the onions in butter or olive oil
- Pour the tater tots and frozen veggies into a casserole dish
- Pour both cans of soup into the dish
- Add in the turkey and diced onions. Stir well mixing all ingredients and making sure the soup coats everything.
- Top it with the toasted onions.
- Put the whole thing in the oven for about 30-45 minutes.
Serve and enjoy!
