Morning Brief on the Los Angeles Political Machine for Tuesday

CD 9 City Council Candidate and "former" CD 14 Advisor Ana Cubas.
What a difference a Mayor Sam Post makes ........
Just last evening during our Happy Hour Musings, we noted that CD 14 City Councilman Jose Huizar's staff directory had former Chief of Staff Ana Cubas listed as an "Advisor".
This morning, Cubas is now eligible for inclusion on the ever-growing "Ex Huizar Staff List" as her name has been removed from the current staffer list this A.M..
The fact that Cubas has been banish from the staff of CD 14 raises some interesting questions regarding her departure after announcing intentions to seek the CD 9 seat being vacated by Councilwoman Jan Perry.
Observers have noted that CD 1 Chief of Staff Jose Gardea and CD 2 Chief of Staff Adrin Nazarian have remain on their respective bosses payroll while they seek higher office. Yet when Cubas announces her intentions (which were no secret), Cubas is moved aside, then shone the door.
The fact now that Cubas is no longer part of the CD 14 staff is sure to spawn speculation. One observer points to an in-office battle between Cubas and Deputy Chief of Staff Francine Godoy that led to Cubas departure.
Another City Hall insider notes that Councilman Huizar was not happy that Cubas would put her own political aspiration before his agenda, especially right after a contentious Redistricting battle that saw Cubas garner some unwanted headlines.
Then there is the fact that City Council President Herb Wesson has announced his support of Assemblyman Mike Davis to replace Jan Perry in CD 9. Cubas candidacy creates discomfort in the growing relationship between Wesson and Huizar. Thus, Cubas may find that putting her political desires before the political needs of ex. boss Councilman Huizar, could lead to an undesirable outcome in her quest for City Council.
Your thoughts ..............

That Cubas has been bad news all around, ever since the days back on the LA County Young Democrats. Anybody but Cubas for the 9th.

Ha ha, the mayors pick will wipe the floor with all the other candidates. Don't you mean clean our toilets? I wonder if Watanabe, Sanchez or Weiss feel the same way after Villar's help flushed their campaigns down the toilet.

Definitely Ana Cubas is bad news. Inept as civil servant, unprofessional overall and unable to truly represent constituents, taxpayers and voters. Never follows through on anything. Good to she is no longer a staff member to Councilman Huizar.

For those taxpaying constituents who know Ana Cubas' civil servant history and track record, knows Ana Cubas has done diddly squat for the district and the people.

"One of my biggest dreams is to make a difference in my community and to come back and use my skills and my education to help others.” How trite is that response? It's been overused, under-rated and it's old history.

An ivy league education would provide statistical information on the socio-economic disparity that exists in the district, compare and contrast that to the present and the past political representation, and how "new" future political leadership (with Ana Cuba for City Council) would make a difference. With that said, that is not being said!

Ana E. Cubas,
There is definitely something wrong with the picture here! It really leaves a bad taste in the voters mouth and a horrible gut feeling overall. Please clarify, Ana Cubas why are you registered to vote in CD1, CD9 and CD14? Why did you move out of CD1 and into CD9 to run for office?

The Clart's Fund? Ana Cubas the voters are still waiting for the report as of several years ago. When do you plan to provide the information to the constituents?

Why do you avoid the media? Logic says running for office means putting yourself out there in the mediafor voters to learn about you. Right? But this one cannot be reached
for comment? Ok...

Lastly, leadership comes in all colors and unfortunately Ana E. Cubas just does not make the grade to lead the 9th Council District of Los Angeles. Yes to Latino leadership! No to mediocre Latino leadership! It's a given there are other Latinos that have earned the grade, the integrity, the respect and knowledge to lead and bring the people together, and unfortunately Ana Cubas does not have the qualifications,
experience and leadership skills to fill the shoes for CD9. The picture just seems out of focus.

Ana Cubas was the architect for Huizar's campaign to steal most of downtown from District 9. Now she comes to our district to lead it? This past July 1st, Ana Cubas moved in to a new place in District 9. Can someone know enough about a district in 30 days?

Already she is having a fund raiser at the Conga Room where Secretary of Labor, Hilda Sanchez, and her sister, Congresswoman Sanchez, including executives in the Entertainment Industry, are stopping by for a "Women for Ana Cubas" event. There is no doubt in my mind that she and her campaign director can bring in the big names, but they don't vote.

Ms. Cubas, the community that through your ambitions became poorer when you fought in the redistricting process will remember this act. And we will make sure you don't forget come March 2013.

BTW, in public events, Cubas is still identifying herself as representing Councilman Huizar's office. Whether it's true or not that she's there, she should tell the hosts of those events that she's not. Maybe they'll wisen up and ask her to leave.
