Morning Briefs on the Los Angeles Political Machine for Thursday
Before
....... and now
Time, ambition and past deeds take toll on political relationship
Great morning as the Summer of 2011 nears its end point with the start of the Labor Day exodus. We can rest assure that the two political soul mates above Assembly Speaker John Perez and State Senator Kevin De Leon will spend the holiday dedicated to the "brothers and sisters of labor" (democrats only in one part of Wisconsin), in different environs after their bruising battle over the City of Vernon. The Los Angeles Times takes Speaker Perez to task for his overly-specific ethical matrix that dissolves Vernon but is useless everywhere else. State Senator De Leon is seen as being beholden to political and union interests who want reforms but are not about to discard the political entity which have served their interests well. But in the endgame, it will be the IRS that brings about true reform in a business park that doubles for an incorporated city. More news after the jump..........
** Holy Villar! Look who is supporting Congressman Howard Berman in his re-election battle against Assemblyman Mike Gatto's "political papi" Congressman Brad Sherman, who's campaign is being consulted by Parke "Oak Hill" Skelton. Is this the first time that Mayor Villar has opposed a Skelton client?** Congresswoman Linda Sanchez will take on State Senator Ron Calderon in a newly redrawn 38th Congressional District. The smarter two of the Congressional Sanchez sisters should have political ammo galore as the Calderon Machine comes under further scrutiny for their "dealings" in Montebello and elsewhere in Southeast LA County.
** If anyone comes across a hungover Assemblyman Gil Cedillo today, its because the State Senate vote to pass the "Dream Act that give taxpayers dollars to non-legal college students. Of interest was the Fox 11 News report on this last evening, which saw Tony Valdez reporting on the vote. Memory serves me well that Valdez was the same reporter who appeared on KFI's John and Ken coverage of the "We Clean Your Toilets" march years ago and stated that whites had killed thousands in taking California from Mexico.
** In fifteen minutes (10:45), LAUSD School Board Member Tamar Galatzan appears on the insiders internet radio show "OFF THE PRESSES" with the "Bloggin Maven", Ed "123" Headington and "Mr. Tamar Galatzan". Good question to ask would be whether the LACCD's Van De Kamp Scandal affected the LAUSD School Board recent decision to prioritize "in-house groups" over Charters in allocation of new school site?
** Memo to all who attended and reported on the recent Congressional Black Caucus conclave on jobs and employment fair in recent days. Why focus your ire on those "wicked tea-party people" when the likes of CRA-LA give more financial support to Eli Broad's museum garage than all its projects in South LA combined? BTW, LA Wave "Soulvine Columnist" Betty Pleasant had some choice words for Congresswoman Maxine Waters as she recovers from eye surgery.
Then there’s Maxine Waters, one of our own congressional representatives, piling up on Obama big time. Actually, that’s nothing new because Waters didn’t like Obama from jump street and she never did support him. Her nose has always been too wide open behind the Clintons.
Get well soon Betty..........
Your thoughts..............
