Tony Butka: "Eastside Adelante PAC-Paying the High Price of Democracy?"
Maybe CD 14 City Councilman Jose Huizar didn't want the Adelante PAC snooping around his no-bid giveaway of $150,000 of CRA/LA money to the theater group, whoops, meant to say outreach specialists CASA 0101?

In addition, Ron Kaye notes that Chris Essel's CRA/LA will reconvene tomorrow in the spirit of replicating their role in the charade to usurp the will of Governor Brown and activists city-wide.

Last month, the CRA/LA’s Adelante Eastside PAC voted unanimously to support Governor Brown’s effort to eliminate all CRA’s. This month, they wound up with no staff support for their monthly meeting, and no quorum. Coincidence, or was this the high price of biting the hand that feeds?
To provide some context, the PAC meets on the 4th Tuesday of each month at the Benjamin Franklin Library at 6pm. Has forever. To set the agenda for these meetings, the Board’s Executive Committee meets on the 2nd Tuesday to prepare and finalize the agenda. These Executive Committee meetings are normally scheduled by the PAC’s Chair (Vickie Castro) and/or the CRA/LA Staff assigned to the PAC.
Well, this month the Chair never called for an Executive Committee meeting, and neither did the CRA Staff. By doing this, in a first class bureaucratic maneuver, there would be no February meeting. No Agenda, no meeting, right? However, there was an article in La Opinion which first raised the question of whether this was a coincidence or a deliberate attempt to punish the PAC for voting with the Governor and against the CRA/LA.
Since Ms Castro was not available for comment and the CRA evidently assured La Opinion there was no attempt to punish their renegade PAC, who knows for sure what the deal is.
But the story doesn’t end there.
Faced with the reality of no February meeting, some of the Board members got together and created an agenda based on previously approved Board items and carryovers from prior meetings. That agenda was duly posted and the meeting was on.
Or would have been, except that there was no quorum and there were no CRA/LA staff present, so no business could be conducted. Coincidence again? It is reasonable to assume that at a minimum the Board members and the CRA/LA bureaucrats are aware that with 14 Board members, the PAC must have at least 8 present for a quorum. And it would seem to stretch coincidence that the three CRA staff members who know that the 4th Tuesday is the monthly meeting would suddenly forget.

The same day the POT Peddlers PAC drops a ratty plain envelope, lightly xeroxed mailing bashing Huizar in the mail (with NO Ethics IE disclosure filed), Huizar sends out a slick trumpeting his endorsement by the Sierra Club.

Tony B. needs a lessen in either the Brown Act (something his NC was accused of abusing repeatedly, during his reign), or Roberts Rules, or both.
His slicing andf dicing of the PAC's meeting dilemnas is virtually incomprehensible. The board voted "unanimously" and then punished ITSELF by having the majority of members boycott the next meeting?

Boy, Huizar groupies are on the ropes and they behave like little school children attacking. Only in Boyle Heights can your 1st ammendment rights be stopped. Mr. Martinez supporters were asked not to wear anything that had his name on it at the debate last night. That is against the law for anyone to tell Mr. Martinez supporters they can't wear what ever they want. IT goes to show once again the thug mentality of Huizar people. They threaten, intimindate, verbally abuse and all out assault people all over the district especially small businesses. Its beyond outrageous and I hope the media goes after what's been happening during this campaign. Emails are flying about the Bell City ATtorney stating its against STATE LAW to use police officers in mailers. Huizar has a fake cop on his mailer and on his website. Where is Carmen Trutanich on this issue.
So apparently this election is SO in the bag for Huizar, that no media even bothered showing up at Boyle Heights.
And the best "new" news stories the L.A. Times can muster is regurgitations by Zahniser and some intern (last week) about how the CD14 race has been "dirty" and "old friends" are now running against each other.
(When hasn't the CD14 race been "dirty"?) Doesn't anyone recall that Pacheco and Huizar were at least supporters of each other, if not friends, in 2003 when Villaraigosa ran against Nick?
I can't remember it ever not being "dirty" on the Eastside. Hell, people tried to recall Art Snyder twice 35-40 years ago, including calling him a child molester.
These new guys pale in comparison.

Everyone should email Carmen Trutanich and ask why he isn't sending a cease and desist letter to Huizar for those fake cops on his mailers which is against STATE LAW. And anyone who is so threatened to NOT exercise their rights to speak out or wear whatever they want is a PROBLEM TO ALL. Word in CD14 is the polls are close. LOL I'm always amazed at the low life immature postings of Team Huizar against anyone who dares exercise their 1st ammendment rights in speaking out. Its the reason why so many who voted for Huizar the last election will not be this time around. Huizar is a dictator just like Gadafi. He needs to go. If a community member can't say or wear what they want, it says a lot about the lack of leadership in the district.
Today I feel ashamed to call myself Mexican-American. Our people has made us look like the caractures most anglos have of our culture. In protest I'm not voting this election. Para que.

Why are you ashamed? Do you think our people masterminded this charade? Look again. Who is driving the message in this campaign, non-Latino consultants. Huizar and Martinez are just pendejos at the end of a non-Latino puppet master's strings. Martinez paid for it himself and Huizar sold out to afford these high priced consultants that make a mockery out of our community. These consultants prey easily on the pendejo papi chulos that make us all look bad. We end up with damaged elected officials and wealthy white consultants.
