The Choice is Clear, Rudy Martinez for City Council in CD 14

Letter of support from former LAPD Deputy Chief and now Riverside Police Chief Sergio Diaz.
Four years ago today, a certain person was proud to walk up to his polling place and help elect current CD 14 City Councilman Jose Huizar to his first full term. Now on this election day in 2011, that same person typing these words implores you to vote for Rudy Martinez to replace Councilman Huizar.

In the four years since casting my vote for Huizar, a person who possess the intellect to bring defining change to the community, has instead help define what ills our local government, lack of transparency, cronyism, and general disdain for the truth.
Four years of scandals, CLARTSgate, Listgate, HACLA Bid-Rigging, DWP, staffer turnover and disregard for general constituent services, has made a once potential mayoral candidate into a sad political puppet of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
But what stands out besides the scandals and his lack of accomplishments, is the blunt truth that Jose Huizar is not a person of character. Whether it is his volcanic temper that one ex. staffer experience at National Night Out two years ago, or his "investigation" of park advisory board members, Huizar has on many occasions exhibited his inner persona that is insecure and vindictive.
Rudy Martinez knows the "true Huizar", they were once friends (in Martinez view) but what Martinez ultimately discover that many can relate was this, Huizar is your friend of convenience who dispatches you once your usefulness is complete.
Martinez in my numerous conversations, is not the polish, wonkish politico that is Councilman Huizar. But what defines Martinez is his tireless pursuit of a chosen objective and his forthright determination to take ownership for mistakes that may occur (ie. the buck stops with me).
In this campaign where his past has been bare to all by Team Huizar, Martinez has been contrite and transparent about his past transgressions (which was shared with this blogger long before being made public via Team Huizar hit pieces), unlike Huizar who defers questions on his past friendship with Martinez to his campaign consultant.
Thus, as our city barrels onwards to its pending day of fiscal reckoning, we need leaders who's life experience mirrors the challenges that face our community at this moment in history, that is why Rudy Martinez is the person who should lead CD 14 in finding the solutions to reinvent our district and city.

Why does Huizar continue to lie on his mailers about the police station taking credit for it which can easily be substantiated he did nothing to get it? Does he really think people are stupid like TEAM Huizar not to know he was not even in the district when Prop Q was developing the new station? Its laughable Huizar is taking credit for crime reduction when in fact he's responsible for cutting LAPD budget $100 million and HOllenbeck Divsion in his district is down over 100 Officers but Huizar continues to LIE about that to. Because Huizar has taken credit for crime reduction police officers and detectives are saying it gives them even more reason to not like, respect, and resent his sorry ass. These issues will not go away no matter if he wins or not.
Trujillo is predicting a 72 to 28 Huizar victory.

Actually, it's not our last hope.
First, the FBI will probably still take Huizar away if he stays in office.
Second, redistricting is happening this year, and the people of Eagle Rock and Downtown are in a perfect position to leave CD14 and join a Council District with a brighter future.
We will not lose hope, just change direction and leadership. The power of good always wins out.

Reyes -- who doesn't need or want your few rabid contrarian votes anyway -- AFTER which a soon-to-be unemployed ex-mayor TONY VILLAR, moves into the area, "reclaims" his Eastside roots, and runs for the CD1 COUNCIL SEAT, and he WINS!
He can't GO anyhwere ELSE - certainly not UP the ladder -- and he needs a paycheck until he retires... so he SITS on Council for up to three terms, while your "New" district as reconfigured withers and dies.

While I support A clean sweep, the group pushing clean sweep is totally ineffective. That's the sad part about all this. We are badly served by most incumbents and yet are unable to muster a decent opposition. Until we break the cycle of insiders replacing their former bosses or the likes of Villaraigosa getting his choices elected time and again, we have no great future here in LA. Huizar or Martinez? What a choice! But for me, anybody would be better than Huizar and all that he represents.
The choice was "clear" the day the 4X convicted criminal Rudy Rich filed his papers.

Anytime a candidate has to make THAT many changes from who he really is, to try and FOOL people into thinking he belongs in an elected position here, that much FAKING makes the choice clear.
There never was a real "choice" - only smoke and mirrors. Huizar is one of us, Rudy is not.

Any time you vote "anybody but" you're only fooling yourself.
Vote for he best QUALIFIED candidate - which is 100 percent Huizar - and then force him to change what you don't like about his past actions.
There's a MUCH better chance of that working that having "faith" that a dumb, unqualified (PROVEN) criminal-loser like Martinez would be able to improve CD14, given 40 YEARS, let alone 4.

We need a change. Huizar refuses to address the 710 issue and wants to ignore El Sereno by supporting the 710 Fwy connection and Valley Road Connection. The reality is that Huizar, SCAG, Caltrans and MTA are pushing planning projects that are 50 years old and are already outdated.
Our region, cities, communities do not need the 710 Fwy. connection or a multi low mode alternative. The only thing these projects will do is bring more traffic and pollution to our areas. There is already an overwhelming amount of health research and evidence that increase pollution will harm our citizens. So let us stop wasting money and move on. No to the 710 and no to the Low Mode alternatives. No to Huizar! We do not need 100,000 trucks a day moving through our communities.

The fact is there are a lot of constituents not happy with Huizar. What needs to happen is all those same constituents keep at it and demand answers from Huizar if he wins and do it in front of the media. The media is with the people of this city reporting stories everyday of corruption like CRA, AEG. Go to city council, go to all the community meetings, go to events. Don't sit and do nothing. Keep DEMANDING ANSWERS FROM HIM. Martinez may have an upset and that would teach Huizar a great lesson. We're all keeping our fingers crossed

We're about to take a REAL poll, today... it called and ELECTION (and not the silly "we are unhappy" postings you see here that represent a tiny minority).
The outcome will be similar to the last two council elections here. Huizar will win by a large margin.
He will WIN again, because people are generally satisfied with his leadership here, and they will each choose to either: 1) vote for him in the majority, or 2) stay home in fairly large numbers -- ALSo because they are NOT unhappy with current representation.
People are lining up huge numbers in BELL to elect "new" leaders, because they've faced REAL corruption. THEY are unhappy; CD14 is NOT!
People are NOT lining up in large numbers at the polls in Cd14, because there is no "corruption" - its all just slime, bashing, irrational hatred, and jealousy.
Today's election will PROVE that for everyone but the rabid haters like Rid Spurt. Those few will continue saying THEY know better than the vast majority of us. Their arrogance and bile will continue.

Absentees are in I(probably 1/4 of all coming), Huizar's at 61 percent. Rudy 39 (the GLENDALE Republican) needed to be ahead among the blue-haired Republicans, at this stage, but they didn't cooperate.
Rudy's route is straight downhill from here.
ALL City Council incumbents are way ahead. Stephen Box is a VERY distant third place.
