Mid-Day Briefs on the Los Angeles Political Scene for Tuesday

Will Governor Moonbeam II take out CRA's in California?

Will Chris Essel's CRA/LA survive the wrath of Bitter Jerry?

If Governor Moonbeam II needs any help in finding the office of CRA/LA in his quest to liquidate the functions of CRA's statewide, many in the local political bloggersphere are waiting and willing to point the way.
"WWG 2", known to the thinning ranks of graying readers of the Old Gray Hag on Spring Street as Bill Boyarsky, pens "right on Jerry"! Ron Kaye, formerly the editor of the Daily Valley Moldy Green Sheet, says "Abolish the CRA" Cary Brazeman, penning his thoughts at the "blogging cyber commune of neighborhood council activists" City Watch, calls it "Time for a New Way". Can we call this a bloggin consensus?
For this blogger, CRA's Adelante Eastside and its Biotech Corridor Project area, has provided a education on the brute force of mis-guided government. In 1999, without any notice to community members and park activists, Hazard Park was place within the Adelante Biotech Corridor Project Area. The CRA employee who I discussed this finding with, stated that the park was included due to "criminal blight". But the likes of longtime Hazard Park Activist Alex Man have stated for decades that Hazard Park, has been targeted by USC and LA County for hospital expansion. Thus, it was no surprise that the likes of USC's City Hall Lobbyist David Galaviz was a member of the CRA Adelante Advisory Board
With the powers granted CRA's across America by the repugnant Kelo Decision of the United States Supreme Court in 2005, the likes of CRA/LA had a new way of taking decades long homes of many and giving them to the connected developers like USC (one should see the former home sites on Playground St next to Hazard Park) . Thus, if Governor Moonbeam II can put a stop to this egregious practice of taking private property and selling it in return for campaign contributions (the LA way). Then lets point Jerry in the direction of CRA/LA.

This "shout out" to Huizar's campaign manager makes all this bashing of Huizar painfully transparent.

It's all just personal between Scott Johnson and Trujillo. There's no interest in improving Council District 14 involved.

This is just little boys whipping them out to see who can pee further in the snow.

As a person who rarely comments on this site, I find it interesting that when all attacks are on the exposer of crimes, regardless of grammar, there must be something to hide. I don't trust one comment in opposition here, and especially when it is about Red Spot's english. I'll accept his expose in Swahili if it leads to the criminals.

Note also then, that Red Spot never comments back on the rational rebuttals to his attacks on Huizar.

(Recall it was just a few weeks, for example that he was regularly accusing Huizar of "wasting" police time by having a single black and white at a community event he attended -- as if this was to keep constituents away).

Then this past weekend, an elected official was shot, a judge was killed and several bystanders were also murdered by someone attending a small "community event".

Seem like a "waste" of police presence now? Huizar just grandstanding?

Will Red Spot still wantonly and abusively use the police car photo as the "logo" of his updates (attacks) on Huizar here?

And, what does Red Spot have to hide by not responding to the non-typo messages here, other than his lack of any real evidence of wrong-doing re: CLARTS.

(But then, in Swahili, his posts might also make more sense).

And you thought Phil was an idiot-stick. It was only going to be moments before the calm voice of reason, Rush Limbaugh, chimed in:

"What Mr. Loughner knows is that he has the full support of a major political party in this country. He's sitting there in jail. He knows what's going on, he knows that...the Democrat party is attempting to find anybody but him to blame. He knows if he plays his cards right, he's just a victim. He's the latest in a never-ending parade of victims brought about by the unfairness of America...this guy clearly understands he's getting all the attention and he understands he's got a political party doing everything it can, plus a local sheriff doing everything that they can to make sure he's not convicted of murder - but something lesser."

Scott, your analysis of the CRA involvement with Adelante was decent and even informative. I hope that your critics don't overlook that fact. You are often a wildly biased homer for the Republicans and the right-leaning, to be sure, and I think you move the facts quite a bit to suit your leanings. But when you wrote about community redevelopment here, you gave nods across party and talked about very problematic specifics with Adelante.

I think you'll readily admit that there is no way in hell Whitman would have had the kind of experience necessary to tinker with community redevelopment, and certainly not the ability to carry such a wish through the State legislature. Let's see more of this kind of writing, which doesn't concern itself so much with party, but with what's right.

Word on the street is Rudy M. knows full well he stands no chance whatsoever of doing well in March's primary - he's just wrangling to be the lead dog in the pack whenever Huizar leaves office -- whether early, to move to another elected's spot, or after two more terms.

Now that's the first things that's made sense about his campaign.

Rudy Martinez's people advised him badly (or maybe he just doesn't listen, but their first major stroke at identifying the "brand" was a total f*ck-up.

The ballot - the last thing people see before they vote - says he's a "small business owner."

That "I'm a small business owner" idea may be charming when your courting contributions -- although apparently not the last 3 months, judging from the Ethics' tallies --and I'm sure he thinks it helps him with the IRS, but when it comes to actually voting, the psychology of the issue, coupled with the culture of the Eastside, goes something like this:

"Hmmm, 'small' business owner...

Why 'SMALL'" If he's such a great potential leader (and 'problem solver') and he's already middle-aged, why isn't his business more than 'small' by now?

Sounds like maybe he either has no real ambition, or he's made some very bad business decisions -- that have kept him 'small'.

Does someone who's still small-time belong in the driver's seat, representing a quarter-million people, handling hundreds of millions of tax dollars, and the jobs of thousands of CD-14 residents who work for the City -- (and you KNOW those people vote).

I think I'll stick with the guy with all the college degrees..."

He would have added several percentage points to what will be a dismal total just by not trying to be cute, and a "man of the people."

Hell, their gardeners, dog walkers, housepainters, and plumbers are "small business owners" and they sure wouldn't vote for them to run 1/15 of the City.

Why is this important? Due to a severe influx of money and not having much to do with it but settle old scores, they have the recourses behind themselves to make Mitch's life a living hell.

I'm told the hit is coming and it runs the gammit re-spinning Englanders City Hall break-in,exposing his frauds, his threatening of opponents employers, his threatening of constituents, his misuse of the LAPD for political purposes including some public Safety committee members and or staffers willing to go on the record about what's really going on.

That is just a teaser. Seems the problem with Mitch is he gleefully told people where the bodies were buried, and people have no problem digging them up to stop him.

This might be getting good.

OMG@ Definitely the Huizar camp is in the house. Why spend so much time attacking a guy for dumb spelling and grammar errors? Go to another blog? Gotta luv the LA Weekly for hammering the CLARTS FUND again in yesterday's post. The point they ask is over $1 million transferred to general fund but NO accounting where it really went. They will continue to investigate and the truth will come out. That's when it will be all over for Huizar. At community meetings the talk is Rudy is gaining more and more support every day. Why? Because everyone knows the history of the corruption of Huizar. Long time residents are saying they haven't seen Huizar since he was last elected now he's coming out. To 4:21pm its a known fact Huizar has consistently used LAPD and they can't stand him. Its all for show. Long before the Arizona shooting a waste of resources making officers sit at his events sometimes 3 hours just because he demanded it. Here's proof Huizar doesn't like LAPD

When more than a handful of screamers and anonymous posters determine there's a "big time crook" on the ballot, you'll be right.

But that won't be this year's election, or probably ever. If there was anything like a groundswell of anti-Huizar sentiment out there, the "small" businessman could have certainly collected more than $7,000 over the last three months in contributions.

Hell, Alvin "DOH" Parra collected more than that 4 years ago, and he'd pissed off more people in CD14 in previous years than have ever heard of "Mayor Sam's". Now Alvin's starting to look "smart" by comparison - and he barely got 30 percent of the vote.

(Another really LOUSY word of advice from Rudy's people -- contribute a huge sum to your own campaign, so people know you're filthy rich and don't think you need their pennies.)

This has to be one of the DUMB-best campaigns run in CD14 in decades.

OH, and also don't take matching funds??

Rudy should demand a refund from Hacopian.

Get used to Huizar, he's in for another 4 years.

Scott/Higby - I have a question which I hope that both of you can answer:

Why haven't you posted anything on Rudy Martinez's campaign returning $6,000 to donors who work for Nick Pacheco's law firm because of the allegations that Nick Pacheco reimbursed his employees, there by circumventing the contribution limits?!

You are both quick to bring up issues that you have against Huizar, but here's a story about what can turn out to be one of the biggest political dramas in the upcoming election and you have yet to give it the attention that you give less important things.

It's obvious from reading your posts that you do not hesitate to use your personal bias in deciding what you do and don't cover on this blog. But in not covering something like this, you add further fuel to those who say that your blog is nothing more than a wasteland of comments that gives Scott Johnson something to look forward to in his life (I actually heard this several times at community events).

Please respond.

It appears Huizar supporters think he is running against Nick Pacheco, otherwise referred to as "Rudy Martinez's mentor".

As we all know, Huizar's mentor, Antonio Villaraigosa, has been deemed a "FAILURE" by Los Angeles Magazine and Jim Newton's piece in the LA Times was far different from the fawning articles of earlier days.

Objectively, I think Pacheco's last two years in office were relatively good for the district. I can't say that for Villaraigo's term in office (as CD 14 representative or Mayor) or, as yet, and surely it's too late, for Huizar's term.

And, sadly, Huizar, through his supporters on this site, would rather throw mud at a man not even running than outline a program for the betterment of CD14.

This is a linear subject that involves only those directly involved with the issue, which are Nick Pacheco and Rudy Martinez.

It appears that you think I was responding to your email. I wasn't. I didn't notice your earlier email.

To respond now to your emails, however, I would say that I am not the proverbial "pot" because I am not a participant in the campaigns or a candidate or a supporter of either candidate.

I was a little miffed that Huizar supporters (i don't know if you are one) were always bringing up Pacheco when, in my view, it's a contest between Huizar, Martinez and Butka (although he may have dropped out).

I did go to the link (thank you, i didn't know that site existed) and read the piece. I couldn't understand what the ethics spokesperson was talking about - are they investigating? aren't they investigating?

In any case, if Pacheco has done anything wrong, we will surely find out. And, as for as Mr. Skelton's comments, just from reading this blog from time to time, he does seem to be full of that four letter word beginning with "S" - spin, I mean.

But my point remains the same, - I am disappointed with Huizar (as I was with his predecessor, Villaraigosa), - but, bottom line, I want to hear more from Huizar and Martinez, not from or about non-candidates.
