Does CD 1 Councilman Ed Reyes support youth voting for increase beer and wine sales in Lincoln Heights?

Will CD 1 Councilman Ed Reyes support Lincoln Heights residents, wading through more beer and wine sales?
Note the name of Action Slate Lincoln Heights Neighborhood Council Youth Representative Daniel Lopez.

Straight forward question for CD 1 City Councilman Ed Reyes. Do you condone/ support under the age of 18 members of the Lincoln Heights Neighborhood Council, voting to oppose or support, increase beer and wine sales?

After all, you can't legally smoke, drink, be out on the streets after curfew, or fight and die for your country, until your eighteenth birthday. But in the fiefdom control by your cronies on the Lincoln Heights Neighborhood Council, they did just that.

At the September 2 meeting of the LHNC, as the Youtube videos below showcase, the two youth members of the LHNC were first, included in the roll call to establish quorum, then one of the two voted to opposed the motion the deny a beer and wine license to the 7-11 Franchise, located on Broadway and Eestlake.

For LHNC Youth Rep Daniel Lopez, who was part of the Action Slate faction that took control of the LHNC in the Spring of 2010, these must be heady times for the young man. Imagine being able to tell your classmate at Lincoln high School, that you were able to vote on increasing the choices for buying booze, for that Friday nights party on Flattop.

But more disturbing than the fact that minors are exploited for adults personal gains, is the numerous Brown Act violations that can be seen in the series of videos. One can notice that supposed LHNC President Esther Rojas, is not actually presiding over the meeting. It is Vice-President Ben Wadsworth, who is running the show. This is the same group who also feels that Public comment should only be allow if "time permits".

For the record, this bunch will meet again this Thursday, September 16, 2010, 6PM, at the Lincoln Heights Library basement, to formally support the petition for the 7-11 beer and wine license. No word whether Councilman Reyes will attend to present Daniel Lopez with "certification of appreciation".

Your Thoughts..............

Dude, Ed P. hates neighborhood councils more than you seem to. He never met one yet he wanted any of his underlings to actually work with -- dysfunctional or otherwise.

You're barking up the wrong family tree there.

"certification of appreciation".

Come on, Red Spot. Do you really call it certification of appreciatin?

Is there anything that you DO get right?

You obviously ran for the wrong neighborhood Council board, Scottie boy. You seem to have "left your hard(on) in Lincoln Heights." (sing along)

I can't wait until someone from LH starts writing for a different blog and begins crapping all over LA32's decisions and advice about city issues where you live.

Of course, that's IF your council ever makes an actual decision - other than what snacks to serve at meetings. You got all that worked out now, right? Cookies, not cake? Fruit juice, not sodas?

Must have taken LA32 ALL night to DE-liberate. Or, did you have to TABLE that discussion and refer it to the Caloric Content Sub-committee for further study?

I was against 7-11 selling beer, but now I'm for it because you played the preschool card. How in the world does beer at 7-11 imperil 4-year-olds at a nearby preschool??? It doesn't. At all. Not one bit. Instead of making a good argument you threw everything out there hoping something would stick, and that my friend is disingenuous.

Only a phat coward TWAT like you would go after a high school student.

I don't know this kid but one thing is for sure - he can spell better and he is smarter than you.

Must be sad to be you.

Hey, isn't that Daniel kid related to Vera Padilla?

She's the same lady that stole an entire crate of coffee and coffee filters purchased when she was LHNC secretary for the Christmas Parade but kept it for her cafe that never opened?

He sure is! And Vera Padilla sits on this board.

Sounds like the City should investigate these clowns.

Maybe this Daniel kid shouldn't be on the board if he is clueless about what he is voting on. Or wait, maybe Vera is the one selecting his votes.

I wish the "opposition" slate would run a candidate in my area next election. "At-large" of course, I'm certain they could NEVER get a resident to run against me for the resident seat. When they were silly enough to attempt an at-large candidate in 2008 (a carpet-bagger with no connection to the area, running against the candidate I endorsed) they annoyed me enough to insure their slate lost the election. But 2010 was so boring. They didn't dare put someone to oppose me or even challenge the "at-large" seat. It just sort of sucked away the motivation for me to ensure their slate was crushed. Not that I really needed to, they do a pretty good job of losing without my help.

Which brings us to modern politics. Unable to win by election, they resort to blogging. They resort to video taping meetings for YouTube and trying to find any minor issue to attack. They look for technicalities because they have no actual content. They attempt to disrupt the flow of meetings with inane commentary wrapped in "activism." But it isn't activism. It is ineffectual sore losers taking a contrary stand simply for the sake of disruption.

They lack the charisma, ability and talent to be one of the gears. So their only ambition in life is to be grains of sand.

Cute videos though. Over a dozen views! Wow. And I am one handsome fellow. In fact, I am inspired. I think I'll have to video some meetings myself. Get some great crowd shots. I'll have to bring some better equipment though...I don't want it to look like amateur camera phone hour.

So be sure to dress snappy and suck in those bellies, and I'll see if some of you look as handsome as me on YouTube. Of course, I'll actually get some views...I'd be embarrassed if I had less than 10,000. And if I edit it all just right, maybe I'll make one of my subjects famous. We could be on the verge of finding the NumaNuma Kid of local LA politics.

I don't think there is anything illegal against 16 year-olds on an advisory NC board voting on whether or not to increase beer and wine sales. The only thing that a minor can't do is enter in a legal contract. That's it.

Find something else to bitch about.

...and Kevin Flint's true colors come out. Another idiot who sits there and has zero contribution to meetings.

Maybe he should get his ass up off that chair and do something for his community. At least catwalk since he thinks he's such a looker.

*gag me*

This idiot needs to educate himself. The slate that ran in 2010 is a different slate from past slates who ran against "action slate." Moron.

A completely worthless idiot who is, obviously, full of himself. Seriously...all he can do is mock people about their weight and type of equipment they have? How shallow.

Oh, and by the way, Kevin, check out your bylaws, Brown Act and Robert's Rules of Order. The community is entitled to ask as many questions as they want. Just because you've never uttered a word at a meeting and just sit there scribbling doesn't means others aren't allowed to speak.

And next time you are being filmed/photographed, how about a smile, or a hello? This idiot NEVER greets the pubilc OR his own Board. He simply hides in a corner and runs out of meetings. Pathetic.

Yup, that's your Area 6 rep! Be proud of him.

"...and Kevin Flint's true colors come out. "

Yep. I am pretty much awesome. And if you knew anything about the area I represent, you'd also know I represent it perfectly. I meet with my constituents regularly, and host all kinds of events and meetings to hear from them. Heck, I just had a meeting with a few dozen of them Tuesday night. I even know a large percentage of my constituents by name. And I always speak up during relevant issues at meetings. But, if you knew anything about my area, you'd know my constituents don't care about football field chalk machines. Band uniforms. Local elementary schools. So, instead of speaking just to hear my voice and drag out meetings even longer (as some of the disruptive clowns in the audience like to do) I speak up when it is an issue relevant to my constituents. Which happens about once every 3 or 4 months.

And it doesn't matter what opposition "slate" it is during what election. Each of the losing slates always have within their ranks a few sore losers who, unable to find anyone to vote for them, make it their mission to be disruptive. Unlike the rest of their slate, who graciously accept defeat, these few are so desperate for attention, they need to come to meetings simply to make noise and be seen. Total attention whores. Boo hoo hoo.

And I never said they can't be disruptive. So stop quoting your Brown Act like some sort of civics class nerd trying to brown nose. It is their right...just like I am well within my rights to call them cry baby sore losers with little purpose. Of course, unlike them, I don't have to post here as "anonymous." So I guess we can add "coward" to a few resumes as well.

And I am not scribbling during meetings. I am doodling. There is a huge difference.

So, if you don't like me there, vote me out. Heck, at least try to find someone to run against me. Because these unanimous land-slide election wins are getting so totally boring.

Go back to texting on your black berry, pathetic idiot.

We're sick of looking at your flat face at meetings.

Just another selfish moron from "we hate Lincoln Heights and want to be associated with Downtown Los Angeles" Area 6.
