So what's Mayor Villaraiogsa going to do now that he's a lame duck? Run for US Senate in 2012, at least that's what the LA Weekly is reporting pundit Charles Feldman is positing. It's a good landing place and helps the Mayor keep his track record of never finishing one job before running for another. And I think Betty LuParker would make a great DC social hostess! (But keep her away from Tiger Woods!)
Phil Jennerhan handicaps the 2013 Mayoral race. Phil doesn't include himself or Walter Moore but gives odds-on favorite to City Council President Eric Garcetti. That's correct, for now Garcetti is the front runner until something better comes along.
Betty Pleasant, who always stays classy, is at it again. She has a disease called PDS which stands for Parks Derangement Syndrome. She is obsessed with Bernard Parks and is already accusing him of abusing new LAPD Chief Charlie Beck.
Sandy Sand writing in the LA Daily News hits local pols for excessive travel. Just after getting back from a trip to a city sponsored book fair in Mexico, Mayor Villaraigosa was off to Coppenhagen for the phony Climate Change Conference (complete with free hookers). Councilmember Dennis Zine wants to put the squeeze on such travel however Dennis is known for his own junkets such as a recent trip to Israel to "study" water conservation.
In case you were keeping track we had another water main break. Put a pin in the map in Baldwin Hills.
Not that I'm against medical marijuana but while the City of Los Angeles seems paralyzed on how to deal with the issue other agencies have no problems. The County moved fast to shut down an illegal dispensary in Whittier Thursday.

Isn't this thread out of order? But funny to read Phil's handicapping of the race - when he wonders if longshot candidate Tom LaBonge has "the mental sharpness" because he can never even follow along in council to know what item they're on, you know LaBonge had better can it.
Comrade Jan the Commie has done herself in with banning hamburgers (while allegedly eating them under her desk?) and the PayPal joke. That much is probably true.
I agree that Wendy would be foolish to run when she can keep the Controller job 4 more years, she couldn't stand a chance against Eric or Caruso.
Walter Moore insists he could beat everyone except maybe Caruso and Eric, and runs down his number of votes again. WALTER THOSE WERE PROTEST VOTES AGAINST ANTONIO BECAUSE THE OTHER CANDIDATES INCLUDING PHIL WERE BIGGER JOKES.
Joe B says he'll fight Caruso and "everyone knows" it will be Eric.
I'd watch that cockiness, if I were him and Eric. Sure things have a funny way of fizzling.
A LOT can happen between now and 2 years from now when it starts.
Garcetti is NOT the front-runner!
He is the City Council president during THE worst financial disaster in city history AND IT'S GETTING MUCH WORSE BEFORE IT GETS BETTER.
He's only the front-runner for being the most responsible for this mess.
I can't wait to see what Antonio is going to claim as his successes in L.A.

If Zine wants to "study water conservation" he doesn't have to go to Israel, he can just go to Palm Springs or any number of local towns or just follow the directives of OUR OWN CITY's OFFICIAL DWP ADVICE ON WATER CONSERVATION. Which the rest of the "regular" folk seem to follow since they cut water use 18% (and will be very surprised to find that their rates will therefore ICREASE in order to generate the same revenue for DWP and the city.)
Zine is the idiot who was quoted by the Times, when they surveyed all the councilmembers on water usage at home, saying that he justified wasting so much water for rose gardens and green lawns in the West Valley where the climate is more like the desert "because I have to set a good example to the neighbors."
Phil doesn't handicap or make fun of this bald buffoon because he's a Republican, but this is one to really watch out for. All his grandstanding on every issue and getting things wrong while having the "good soundbite" means he's shooting for higher office too.
Dowd just got ejected from City Council for 30 days.
The question for 2012 is whether Dianne Feinstein decides to run for reelection or if she decides to retire. If she retires, the Senate seat will be up for grabs. And, yes, Antonio seems to positioning himself as a likely candidate for this -- to be able to raise money from far and wide, following up on his extensive travels....
Another case of moron Zine's shady double-speak this morning, on the AEG issue, where he concurred with Perry that Trutanich had to produce evidence of crime, whether felony or misdemeanor, or shut up.
And Zine insisted that any future public expenditures like the Jackson Memorial have a cap on city obligation for public safety, while at the same time trying to blame Chief Paysinger and then-Chief Bratton somehow, while at the same time admitting that LAPD's deployment was appropriate considering the outbreaks at Laker parades and other events.
WHILE ZINE WAS SPEAKING he asked CLA Gerry Miller why he "looked so incredulous," and he said because Zine is the one who is vying to bring the Olympics to L A and IT'S A CONDITION OF THAT, THAT HOST CITY PICKS UP ALL PUBLIC SAFETY AND OTHER SERVICE EXPENSES.

I thought Walter was going to France. Promised to go to France if I remember correctly. What he lacks is a plan to win (where will the money or volunteer operation come from?) and the ability to appeal to a wide enough number of voters. You have to figure that if he doesn't have a plan by now, he never will have one.
Zev has never had the fire in his belly to run in a competitive race of this caliber.
Garcetti doesn't control the City Council. No one does, or ever has.
Garcetti's just kicking the can down the road as far as the budget goes.
Wendy's stiffest opposition in the controller race was a guy who can't speak English and raised only $30,000 to her 600,000, with almost half of it D'Arcy money she begged for in a last-minute panic attack.
The rest was largely from Antonio's friends - he can raise money even if he himself is a joke.
But she went around afterwards acting as though she'd won some tough, bruising battle -- all the council idiots did, although not one of them had a challenger with either name ID or any money. Including Eric.
None of these smug jerks has been tested anywhere NEAR what it would take to run any national race against someone with $5 million or more like in the last mayoral campaigns or in this city attorney race where the 'unknown' was really the candidate of the Republican money bags, including Riordan, Broad & their puppets at the Times. Who this time JOINED Antonio in backing the same candidate but her open ties to them as "their girl" the DWP and big money backfired.
By linking herself to them, Wendy only hurt her own chances as well. Eric was wise NOT to endorse Essel, though being a chicken he didn't endorse anyone. Neither of them deserves to win, except that the others like Perry, LaBonge LOL and Wesson are worse.
The next Mayor of L.A. will be George Clooney. Mark my words. He's getting into politics and this will be his start.
Also, is there a fund where all the Kekorian supporters can send their money so the State can pay for a special election?
Their vote for Paul was a vote to waste another million dollars of State money to fill his seat for the remaining 6 months, that or his constituents go without representation.
Obviously his pledge to the voters last January to serve out his term was just a hoax. Can't wait for his next lie as councilman.
Here is my 2 cents on the Mayors race.
Hertzberg would be a good mayor. Has a backbone and great mediation skills. Unfortunately, he has the political stinks on him. Even he says it. He has only won one race 12 years ago for assembly (oppossed re-elections do not count). Even his endorsed candidates get slaughtered such as Cherny (sp?), Waldman,( and this was for his own seat) Bliech (Who still has a bright future).
Zev has a lot of the qualities needed to be mayor at a time some heads need to be bashed. Problem with Zev is that he is a big pussy. He had his chance in 1985 and again in 2009 and blew it. Does anybody doubt he would have been formidable against AV in March.
As much as this may sicken a lot of you, Caruso probally has the best chance of winning. Probally turns out to be as successful as Gov. AS in actual execution.
Garcetti will not win. He will have so much hung around his neck from raises for DWP, MM Disp. out of control, billboard money, etc... he already is starting to seem very sleazy.
While I would love to see a women mayor, WG is done if she jumps next year.
Yeh, the mayor spends lots of tax payer bucks on travel. But worse is that he takes along an entourage to keep his ego pumped. This time he took the Pres of DWP Commission who also happens to be a life long Republican activist. Hardley the tree hugger type. Talk about wasting our money!
Garcetti is by far the worst council prez ever. He has no control over the other memebers. He gives them whatever they want and they know how to work him. He's a weakling, way too weak to ever be elected mayor.

I didn't included Hertzberg because he had a chance in 2009 and didn't take it. Why is he suddenly going to run in 2013? We know why all the Council Members didn't run...they were a bunch of cowards.
In fact, ANYONE who couldn't muster up the courage to run against the 11% Mayor (who got 9% of the vote)...well...they are pretty much all cowards. No other explanation.

Unemployment is fourteen percent in the city. There are literal myriads of homeless. You can sit around and speculate about the next election or you can try to do something right now.

Bob hertzberg will not run. When he was at jeffer mangels, he improperly lobbied state regulators on behalf of firm clients, at the same time that he was assembly speaker. no one found out until someone reviewed correspondence to the EDD and to the LA planning commission. He was not supposed to do this. this information is in the hands of lots of people and fat bob's influence peddling came to light in the mayoral race - both hahn and tony v had the docs and threatened him that if he made the run off, he would be exposed. but it did not matter as no blacks or mexicans voted for that fat lard ass.

Phil, if you're really going to run for office, you need to be able to admit mistakes.
Yours include:
1. Running for mayor and coming in last, and concluding that your accomplishment is "I'm not semi known."
2. Backing Christine Essel, who LOST in a LANDSLIDE.
3. Taking on the Recall Antonio effort and refusing to give an update instead of admitting a mistake.
4. Setting RANDOM odds on an election four years away, and forgetting to add a former CALIFORNIA ASSEMBLY SPEAKER.
5. Getting fired from Mayor Sam.
How can you overcome all of this, let alone go after the opponents, if you don't admit mistakes that are on the record?
I would respect you if you would at least admit your mistakes READILY, instead of trying to bury them.
Well the poodle master tightened the reins and poof DWP got its pay raise while others are being let go. The mayor and the council are like yapping little dogs who heal when IBEW jerks their chain. While the economy hurts for the time being. In the long term the DWP pension problems and those unwarrented salaries will sink the city and you and I will be picking up the tab and these are not TARP funds that will be repaid.Does anyone think that there will ever be a council or council member/mayor that will develope a backbone and defend the people that live in the city and vote for them against this fiscal mess?
CARUSO FOR MAYOR. He's a people type of guy no matter how much money he has. Ask anyone who had to work with him on his huge developments. Whenever there were issues with residents Rick actually sat down and spoke with them and even included some of their suggestions for his developments. That's the way he likes to WORK with people. He had the guts to get rid of Parks when everyone was scared shitless. I know democrats who would vote for Caruso. To the haters who think he's just a money guy you should know he donates millions quietly to the most needed charities in Los Angeles. Again, he's man that is not narcissitic as needs constant attention like our ADD Mayor

Too bad he wasted $ on a domain.
Finally, the guy admitted a mistake! If only he could admit that (a) he doesn't have a regular 40 hour or more per week job (b) it was a mistake to run for mayor (c) coming in last makes him look like a fool (d) getting fired by Higby made him look like a fool (e) setting odds for candidates three years out makes him look like a fool (f) saying that he is now "semi known" makes him look like a fool (g) wearing a cowboy hat to city hall makes him look like a fool (h) endorsing the losing horses in cd2's two horse race and not getting the winner makes him look like a fool (i) having time to go to city council when most people are working makes him look like a fool.
Other than that, it's Jennerjahn for Congress in 2010!
