Get Ready for Betty Pleasant to Call Doug McIntyre a Cracker
Doug McIntyre was brave enough to challenge a corrupt charter school in Los Angeles, that happened to be run by Latinos, and he might as well have put on a robe and hood. Left wing special interest groups (and that's what they are more about, left wing poverty pimp politics than really doing anything of substance for people of color) went apolectic and went on a campaign of terror against McIntyre and his then employer KABC radio. It went so far as to an act of near violence towards McIntyre's newsman, the gracious and gentle Sandy Wells, who was nearly run down by the vehicle of one of the school's supporters.
Doug, the product of a racially mixed working class New York neighborhood has hardly a racist bone in his body. For corn sake the guy voted for Obama! (We're trying to forget that Doug.)
The race baiters even eat their own when appropriate. We saw this when special interest groups, joined by The Home Depot, accused Sunland Tujunga activist Joe Barrett (Joe B. of Mayor Sam fame) of racism in his battle against the big box store. There is not a more committed liberal than Joe; making such claims absolutely ridiculous.
Even African Americans are not immune from this as the ever classy Betty Pleasant somehow thinks that Councilman Bernard Parks is part of some racist conspiracy with the LA Times.
But now that McIntyre has done the unthinkable and criticized the messiah of South Central, the "honorable" Mark Ridley-Thomas, for spending nearly a million dollars on rennovating his downtown office, watch out. Betty Pleasant will cracker smack Doug from here to his run-down San Fernando Valley office.
Amazingly, Ridley-Thomas said that he and his staff "deserved" the rennovations. Tell that to a nurse laid off from King-Drew who has to meet a mortgage. Mark Ridley-Thomas has no shame.
The bottom line is that elected officials - be they liberals who claim to champion the poor or right wing nuts who claim to be for the working family - are all about themselves and what they can get for "me." Ridley-Thomas is just another bad fruit in the bunch.

Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas is quite correct. hIs staff does "deserve" the renovations.
That's not all they deserve. After all, they have to endure endless investigations regarding their boss and a certan female lobbyist who has made a career by being close to him.
I say, they should all get bonuses as well. And, more if it is possible.
Did Mark Ridley-Thomas really spend over 700K upgrading his office...in these budget-troubled times?? And then he said he DESERVED IT!??
Voters need to remember that and kick him to the curb when the next election rolls around.
Unfortunately, he is backed by poverty pimps who admire this type of behavior.

UH, PHIL, RIDLEY-THOMAS WAS VOTED IN THIS YEAR. THERE ISN'T GOING TO BE AN ELECTION FOR THAT SEAT FOR A LONG, LONG TIME, AND THOSE ARE SEATS THAT INCUMBENTS KEEP FOR MANY, MANY TERMS.

Doug McIntyre IS often a "cracker" but not for this - even the evening news channels reported on this a night or two ago and NOT favorably.
There is no excuse for spending $700,000 to redecorate an office and no one "deserves it." I haven't heard of any details in this extravagent redecoration that are so uniquely needed they justify the cost at such a time. It makes one wonder how readily he will raise taxes and spend taxpayer money on other things as well.
I haven't heard Pleasant actually justifying him on this, have you? She's not the only one who points out "bitter Bernie's" bitterness, not only to Bratton and R-T but to many others, and what makes it worse is, it DOES get in the way of good policy when it leads him to try to "Get even" on issues.
With the half Million he's making annually on salary and pension, he should be happy he's made like a bandit on our dime and chill. His trying to reinvent himself now as a Budget Balancer when he was the worst and most hated Chief ever, including in the black community, is transparent and tiresome. His swiping the tripled trash fees promised for cops does NOT make him fiscally responsible, but one who is misusing the trash fees to try to cover his own mismanagement as Head of the City Budget Committee.
Higby, I am hardly a liberal, but even I can see the hardly veiled racism in things that both you and Joe B. post.
The fact that you won't post a comment about this is a sign that there is at least a hint of truth to it.

Betty is crazy. The WAVE is not worth the paper it is printed on. Betty is most of the reason. Drugs are not a good mix with journalism.
Doug's article in the Daily News today was a real clinker.
Betty's generally right about Parks, but she seems to dislike most everyone. Maybe she thinks Ridley-Thonmas is cute because he's round?
What is the threshold for criticizing lavish spending to avoid being branded a racist?
Is there a safe harbor provision?
Perhaps if Thomas had spent $2,000,000 it would be ok to challenge his ethics?

I think the person who insinuated that Betty = drugs is a douche bag and I wouldn't allow those kinds of unfounded accusations if I owned this blog.
