Sunday open thread
Did you listen to Frank & David last night? Talk about that or whatever else is on your mind.
This is the city: Los Angeles, California. I work here. I'm an ex-mayor. Los Angeles is a magnet for people from all over the world. Some of them run for public office. Inevitably some of them stray from the golden rule and rule for those that have the gold. That's when I go to work. My name is Yorty. I'm a dead pol.

Has Essel denounced the "deranged homeless" guys sexist rant against Tamar?
Michael Higby said:
No she has not and does not plan. Frank even said that the economist had a point. And this was even following Frank himself receiving one of those classic "f you crybaby loser" voice mails himself because the economist wasn't invited to the program with Joe and I.
Frank we love you but we need to school you!!!!

When will Essel be sworn in?
Right after Paul acknowledges defeat and returns to tax and spend us in Sacramento?
You Go Girl!!!

Best line of the night was Frank "you don't need to worry" about Essel doing IBEW's bidding once elected.

I need more information on Vhris Essel and Paul Krekorian !!!!!11

The fili-bluster by David Berger who was called Robin Leach by Joe was classic.

Shallman mastery of the field will make the difference on Tuesday.
Hacopian is no match for Shallman in the field.

The Frank and David show is lame on the surface. That being said, you must give these guys credit for having the initiative to do a show; specifically because a show covering issues in the Valley should be done. Of course because it is Frank and David, the issues are medical marijuana, Republican causes and other things near and dear to their hearts. That is fine.
We need activists just like we need certain rebels whose names cannot be mentioned in this blog. Again, give credit to the rebels because they challenge or test authority. This makes us normal folk re-examine our stances on issues and either reconfirm them or adjust them based on new and valid information.
And so, while I disagree with most of what Frank and David stand for and often times totally do not see eye to eye with certain rebels not to be named, I say this to you all, "What are you doing to promote your beliefs and your neighborhoods?" I'm not suggesting that you get your own radio show or be a City Council court jester but I am suggesting doing more than an anonymous posting like I just did.
This should be the moral of this election.

Laugh.
Just go ask IBEW about their poll.
Essel down by 13, and this race means more to them than to Essel. Even they know the outcome.
If you don't believe me? Just call Don Attore.

I liked when Michael Higby and Joe B. got their surprise gifts of containers of Kool Aid.
That was awesome.

So are all the west side women's groups pulling their endorsement of Essel for being endorsed by people who use vile and disgusting words about a women?
Michael Higby said:
Yesterday Essel was walking precincts with Tom LaBonge. Today with Roseanne Barr and ACORN. Tomorrow with the guy who played Cleetus on Dukes of Hazzard.

Frank and David's show is not lame. It is very well done and quite entertaining. I was impressed.
David and Frank are very good guys despite being bamboozled by Essel. :)
Michael Higby said:
Phil the best part was when David cut you off. Ha ha. j/k. Also.
Michael Higby said:
By the way Phil that was socialist Kool-Aid, 35%less sugar.

I find Frank and David both to be overall nice guys. That said, you and Joe should have handed the Kool-Aid right over to Frank when he made that comment about Essel not being beholden to the people who plowed a million and a half dollars into her campaign. They are not doing this because they are her friends. They are doing this because they need a developer-friendly CM in CD2... and, if she miraculously wins, that bill we will be due for payment right after the election.
We do not need this kind of money in Los Angeles City politics. We certainly do not need the machine it helps to fund.

One last comment: Definitely go and buy Frank's chocolate potato chips. A great gift! I think you can buy them online or go to his store.

I was on a walk and tried to drunk dial the show but the answering machine picked up. I presumed that He Who Must Not Be Named was on the line and that the show gave him its quality air time.
mulholland terrace said:
...and, if she miraculously wins, that bill we will be due for payment right after the election...
Wrong, it will be due in eighteen months after the scheduled election, because the special is too close to it. Were Essel to start bulldozing the Palestinians camps in NoHo and Verdugo Hills immediately, she might face an even stiffer opponent very soon.
Michael Higby said:
MT: No the economist did get on. Frank got one of "those" voicemails.
BTW why did Chris Essel pay Herb Wesson a $1000 for "campaign consulting?" Is that even legal? Sounds possibly more like some quid pro quo.
Anonymous said:
Funniest line of the show (besides Frank telling everyone not to worry about Essel's special interest cash) was Michael McCue is set to announce his endorsement on December 9th.
Anonymous said:
This race has really educated me on people and their behavior. As much as I support so much of what David does how can he turn to someone who is against everything the ordinary hard working person is. Essel is all about big union money and not the grass root people. then you have the homeless guy along with Phil who during mayoral campaign were against everything Essel is and still endorsed her. It just goes to show how many weird ass people who have absolutely no integrity can switch so fast and forget what they use to preach. In the end though I hope the activists who beat Measure B help Paul Krekorian win.

Joe B calling David Berger "Robin Leach" and trying to get him kicked off the air was classic!

Sorry, I had a 6pm movie date and 8pm dinner.
So let me catch up. Shallman. No, Essel. No, Sheftel. No, Labonge. No, baba booei.
Looks like I didn't miss much.

David Berger being the "head of ethics" for Carmen Trutanich is too ridiculous, as this biased call-in rant showed, utter lack of dignity, class and objectivity, like someone has called him, A Carnival Barker.
That loud Cockney voice thinking it comes off "upper class" and stomach- churning obsequiousness to his "betters" really IS so Robin Leach,

Some feminists are about to call on Chris Essel to denounce the blogger we can't mention.
Anonymous said:
How come Frank & David kept changing the subject every time you guys nailed Essel on her campaign?
Anonymous said:
Shallman is not Essel's field person.
It's Sue Burnside.

Higby, you owe Mr. Leach an apology.

Actually very impressed with Frank & Davids show. They were good hosts to Mike & Joe and I actually found myself entertained. The Berger call is classic. Any plans for a post election show?
Michael Higby said:
646 first off you are an idiot. That was Joe who made that comment not me.
Secondly you would have no problem if that caller was someone who worked for Jack Weiss.
Lastly, you are Mary Cummins.

Thought it was a pretty good show - Essel came across as seeming to be uncomfortable with the media, but she did sound genuine. If that's the way voters see her, she has a chance.
I cannot understand why Paul didn't call in - after all with Joe and Higby there to ensure fair treatment, he had nothing to lose. In this election, where a handful of voters will show up, and an even smaller handful could actually make or break a candidate, Paul's absence was strange considering a two or three minute call from a cellphone would have been all that was needed. Anyone know why he was a no-show?
Anyway, I thought it was cutting edge stuff, the shape of things to come, and Frank, David, Michael and Joe did great; respectful but forceful. I hope TLC can sponsor a post election show.
