It's Beck

LA Times is reporting that Mayor Villaraigosa has chosen Deputy Police Chief Charlie Beck, a veteran LAPD officer, to serve as the Department's next Chief.

Expect SLAP-Happy folks to be disturbed Valley nominee Michel Moore, who touted a controversial claim to Latino heritage, was not selected.

Blog away dum dums.

This was all nothing more then a pretend showing of a corrupt selection process. It was BECK all along and now let the kiss assing begin. Antonio will now control LAPD and BECK will do everything he says including promoting the Mayor's friends on the dept. People should be outraged and protest the process...Its wasn't fair to begin with

WTF???? You know Antonio has to be pissed that it was leaked before his big announcement at 11am. Beck is too quiet of a guy and Antonio will have a ring around his nose telling him what to do. Bratton is going to continue to have a link into LAPD because Beck will owe him for getting him the job. Valley folks are upset their guy Moore didn't get it. No doubt he will be promoted.

Valley folks aren't upset because it wasn't a "valley guy." They are upset because of AV'a shady process. Antonio lied about having all the communities involved in the decision making process. Clearly, AV still doesn't give a damn about the people he's supposed to represent and continues to prove that he is nothing more than the gangsta that reports say he has been.

What happened to selecting the most qualified for the job as opposed to one who people say has a ring in his nose! Sorry Beck, the rage isn't against you, it's again AV and his cronies! This was Bratton's idea? Then he tarnished the shield he supposedly loved.

It's unforgivable that AV put those other candidates through a living hell for his "phony dog and pony show" photo ops to enhance his own agenda.

is what Antonio is sending out for Beck bio. Carr should not even be on the damn bio. Assholes!!! Boy, they don't waste anytime taking credit and making everything about the gang banger Mayor. Mayor's office is calling around making sure people (his supporters) show up to the community meetings. Residents not happy this was a done deal long before last week and may not show up.

...Beck is widely viewed as a progressive reformer, embracing the same comprehensive approach to gang violence reduction as Rev. Jeff Carr, the City’s first Gang Czar who now serves as Mayor Villaraigosa’s Chief of Staff.

I like Beck. He'll do just fine. - I thought all three choices were good but I preferred McDonnell because he had overwhelming support and likeability. Moore was like a wild card and he had little chance. Beck is further away from Bratton and that is a good thing. I also see him working well with Nuch and Cooley.

We need to take our city back from all these outsiders. Choosing Beck is a step in the right direction. I also like the fact that his term ends a year after the Mayor is termed out.

Many of us in the Valley wanted McDonnell.

Naturally, AV and I are on the opposite page, but I'm sure they're all good candidates.

In order of preference, I like:
1. McDonnell
2. Moore
3. Beck

The most important thing is who the cops themselves like. They hated Parks. That's why he had to go. They liked Bratton. City ran smoothly. I hope they like Beck, although I don't think he was their 1st choice.

C.Beck is a good officer. But the Mayor could have spared us the theatrics, like the 2nd interview. It was the best kept secret in City Hall that Bratton wanted Beck.

Lies aplenty today from the former "Antonio Ramon Villar", here is just one.

1. "My staffers did not know who my choice was for Chief until they walked into the kitchen and saw Bech sitting there".

Even the "westside White Guy" wasn't sold on that one.

The Rev. Carr connection: Villaraigosa's new chief of staff no doubt has a hand in the selection of Beck. From the bio:

Beck is widely viewed as a progressive reformer, embracing the same comprehensive approach to gang violence reduction as Rev. Jeff Carr, the City’s first Gang Czar who now serves as Mayor Villaraigosa’s Chief of Staff.

Councilman Huizar sings praises of "Papi's" choice for chief.

Councilman José Huizar praised Beck's effort to reach out to the community: "With more than 30 years in the department, Charlie Beck has earned the respect of the rank and file of the LAPD and community members alike. His tough stance on crime, coupled with his progressive approach to community policing and engaging residents, tells me that he is the right man for the job. I am confident that Deputy Chief Beck will continue the department's efforts to reduce crime while respecting the civil rights of residents," he said in a statement.

Look at all you HATERS! AV picked the "Best Man" for the job. Who wants Moore - a bona fide racist.

As in any business, govt, etc., the Brass picks the one he can "trust."

Nothing wrong with political back scratiching...it the nature of the beast.

because your are not believable.

Are you a messenger boy for Antonio?

moore is not a racist but his west valley division is the one that had cops questioning suspects on illegal status more openly than others, and turned hundreds more illegals over to ICE than the other divisions.

But sadly this made him a favorite with racists like the Walter Moore/ David Berger/ Minuteman crowed and Dennis Zine who may have pushed too hard for him. Zine's image as a dumb blowhard who says anything and is a buffoon trying to grandstand for his own political advancement means noone takes him seriously any more. People worried Moore might be too beholden to HIM since Zine demands payback. And of course Zine does whatever Nuch and Cooley tell him or the Republican machine, which is off the rails lately. Moore also has some problems with rank and file feeling his career comes first over their well-being.

But Moore is a fine man who will be a big part of the new team.

Face the facts this was a done DEAL BEFORE THE PERSONNEL DEPT. GOT THE APPLICANTS A MONTH AGO. Where the hell was the transparency??. Sleazy Huizy should shut the hell up. Sadly BECK doesn't have the balls to tell Antonio not stick his nose in LAPD affairs. Huizy has no clue BECK has never been to the Eastside you moron. LA Slimes said two weeks ago Bratton was behind the scenes campaigning for BECK = a corrupt selection process. I'm getting e-mails saying Angelenos need to protest the community meetings a photo op for the gang banger Mayor. Call his office and voice outrage 213-978-0600 at this bullshit. If you go to the meetings BOOO BOOOO BOOOO BOOO ANTONIO that way the media will see the anger of the insult to the residents about the corrupt selection of this chief.

I laughed my ass off when Channel 7 called the community meetings the Mayor's Tour. You gotta ask Charlie Beck what kind of man can stand and pretend everything is ok when the entire City knows the selection process was corrupt and flawed as many reporters are now telling people. We know the Mayor is corrupt but to have a new police chief stand by and allow the fiasco to go on is a huge red flag and says LA now has a corrupt Chief. Antonio and Charlie aren't fooling anyone and if the police political league are telling people it was done deal months ago.

OMG!!!! Antonio's website is really embellishing Beck's bio. Helloooo There is no such thing as Chief of Detectives you idiots!!! Beck is Deputy Chief of Detectives a big difference. They list his ranks and helllooooo again he's only been a Deputy Chief 3 yrs. Hardly enough experience as the other two to know how to run an entire dept. CHIEF CHARLIE BECK’S LAPD CAREER

Chief of Detectives
May 2007 – Present

Deputy Chief, South Bureau
August 2006 – May 2007

One bit of the Handel commentary on KFI about the candidates was that another of the candidate's had been considered to be "too independent."

Apparently, or obviously, that characteristic hurt this candidate's chances to be Chief in this Mayor's administration.

10:31, the Times reports that Moore's ideas on big changes and shaking things up impressed some of the commission members, but this was no time for shaking things up in a still fragile LAPD environment, and frankly, that shake things up thing worked out as a disaster with the goofball bull in china shop city attorney shaking things up all right but has no idea what the hell he's doing or what his job even consists of, frankly he could be sued by AEG for his threats and by lots of folk, let's hope they don't take the city to the cleaners over his ego. Of course Moore is a fine man with years of good experience unlike that one but we need to solidify progress not shake things up now, why break something that's just been fixed. However I'd bet Moore's ego is now through the roof and Beck will have to massage it carefully, use him as a trusted aide or he'll move on, probably to a more conservative city.

The Cops liked Bratton?? Are you nuts?? They saw him as a carpetbagger who rode into town, changed everything around him then split at exactly the moment before the poop hit the fan (read budget mess)
They hated him for rolling up Metro Div, and they hated him because HE WAS NOT DARYL GATES!!
Mark my words, Beck made his bones in the Gates years. LAPD will slowly sink back into the Gates mentality. We needed an outsider (Timony from Miami) until every cop who worked under Gates has retired.
