Newsom Fail: You Heard it Here First!

Whether you like it or not!

When we tell you that you've heard it here first, we mean you've heard it here first.  It didn't take long for California political scribes to jump on our analysis that the campaign of Gubernatorial candidate Gavin "I'm running whether you like it or not" Newsom is dangerously close to imploding.

The thrust of our piece Monday was that Newsom has had such major trouble collecting any real campaign jack the San Francisco Mayor had to throw a hail mary pass and roll out a way earlier than usual endorsement of a former POTUS - Bill "BJ" Clinton in an LA photo opp at a green college building earlier this week.

According to the Fishwrap by the Bay, the San Francisco Chronicle the nod from the husband of the head yenta of the Sisterjhood of the Traveling Pantsuit netted G-New the endorsement of mega-bucks Democratic donor Susie Tompkins-Buell, Hilz BFF and multi-millionaire founder of Esprit who also dropped about 30Gs on Newsom.  We won't know for a few days how much dough a Gavin fundraiser held here in town with BJC scored, and then we can only glean that from required financial filings.

Though the Chronicle couldn't choke down attributing our story to uh, well, mainly us they did include a quote from Newsom svengali Garry South who said our story was "bullshit."  That, along with Betty "Pay to Play" Pleasant telling the old, dead Republican Mayor to "kiss her ass" really made our week.

In the meantime Newsweek also picked up the story of Gavin's potential implosion with a piece that makes pretty much the same point we did.

And then to add to the fun Calbuzz, pulling a Kevin Roderickesque no-comments move, gives South the chance to rant further with the boys there buying his well-crafted spin.  To South, who in his quote made a Freudian like prediction of a Jerry Brown primary victory, we say "uh-huh."  South fantasizes Jerry tweeted Gavin's troubles directly to the Sister City, which is laughable, he'd probably be surprised at our actual source.  Memo to the Buzzards, our headline was NOT a typo; it was intentional, G-New has indeed released "The Clinton."

Its nice to know that such major fishwraps are reading Mayor Sam! Maybe Betty Pleasant will want to take lessons.

You posted a rumor about something that doesn't matter. And now you are puffing up about it. He didn't even drop out yet. And who cares? I used to check into this blog every morning because you needed to, or you would miss something. Those days are sure over. Why even bother with this blog anymore?

Great photo Higby, but.......

What makes you think YOU are the first to think he isn't going to get the Dem nomination?

I said that the moment I heard him announce. And I have no doubt that Zuma will claim the same thing, so that's what he always does.

Really, why do you think you're first, especially since it's months and months since he announced he's running?

Can you post a photo of Newsom's ex? She must be a total PAIN IN THE ASS, but she's fucking sexy.

If Newsome was smart, he would just stay as mayor of sf, which he can have for as long as he isn't termed out.

The sf crowd likes a handsome man, and he could fuck every good looking woman in sf, given that there isn't much compoetition for him.

Every body loves a lush. Look at this bitch throwing herself at him. Why he ever got remarried is beyond me. Methinks he did it for image to use for a campaign.

Sounds just like Antonio Villaraigosa.

I love that Gavin Newsome soundbite!

That's the sound of a political career beyond San Francisco going down the drain.

Smell like Antonio's life too!

Is there any chance you can be informative but less cryptic?

I like some news without having to remember childish lingo. With all due respect, you need to make it simpler. You have a fun blog but this sounds too E!-channelish. I understand you don't want the blog to get stale on a slow news day, but this isn't how to do it. But that's just me.

Kinda pompous of you to think you're first on this.

Let's see what the others say.

7:33 you have said that for five years now. Maybe Gavin's problems aren't the most important happenings in politics at the moment (thought the hacks are buzzing) but if a newspaper, magazine and other sites are following our lead obviously people are reading.

Garry needs to worry less about bloggers and more about not leaving his wife alone with Gavin. You know how Newsom is with his campaign managers' wives.

Michael, why do you bother with that moron B.Pleasant? You are giving her credibility. Let her stew in that fishwrap, the Wave, that nobody reads.

Higby is there something wrong with you lately? On an almost daily basis, you sink to more childish comments which seem uncharacteristic for you, although they are becoming more characteristic.

Try, if you still can, to not respond childishly.

Hey Mayor Sam, I think the Calbuzz boys were saying you failed grammatically when you used "it's" instead of "its". I don't think there any dispute over using the term "The Clinton" since Bill's so awesome that he belongs with other words that need a definite article, like "The Bachelor" and "The Hangover".

Newsom is not in serious trouble. He needs to pick up his fundraising pace for sure. But drop out? Don't count on it.

9:23 you must not be a long time reader of this blog. I believe NPR may be more suited to pedants like you.

Now please go play on the freeway. May I suggest the 170 between Riverside Drive and Magnolia Blvd. It is lucious and tree lined.

Mayor Sam, have you ever noticed what a sexy little fuckbag Richard Alarcon's daughter is? She's really smart too but that's just nepotism at work.

1005 you may be correct, the "it's vs its" possessive versus contraction is one that many struggle with especially when you're tagged with a bit of the ADD/learning disability as geniuses such as myself are afflicted with.

Good call, indeed, "The Clinton" is surely analogous with "The Bachelor" and "The Hangover."

Alarcon's daughter is a "sexy little fuckbag" indeed. LOL.

Arguably the best one whose name I've yet to see on this blog, or any blog for that point!

Good one!

She does this for me:
===========> ------

Too bad her daddy is a dickhead and a CORRUPT DICKHEAD AT THAT!

Check your headline: you said "it's" (a contraction for it is) when you meant "its" (the possessive of it). Also, you can say, after the fact, that "the Clinton" was intentional, but the only way it would have made sense would have been "Clinton" or "the Clinton endorsement." All the rest is commentary.

Newsom's wife appeared nude in a movie just this year so she probably takes photos like this in stride, and it happened before he married her, grow up.

Newsom's problems aren't due to just money - he's not that popular even in S. F. because the city's in a fiscal mess like LA is, parks and sidewalks and streets crumbling, the healthcare system he's so proud of sucking money out of other services, his stance on inviting illegals to town and turning a blind eye to the city's long-standing helping illegal juveniles evade ICE will become an issue from the Republicans.

Can't say I'm thrilled about any of the candidates so far. Brown has matured since the days when he insulted Clinton's wife Hilz, but on the other hand that makes me wonder, will the REAL Jerry Brown please stand up?

Meg Whitman has NO record of public service, didn't even vote til recently, just sounds smug. Republicans love to hurl the "elitist" tag at Democrats, even when public service is far less lucrative than law careers etc.: What about Whitman, then? WHAT does this woman know about the little guy? Other than hiring and firing them at will - her "plan" to fix L A's economy is to fire some 20,000 state workers off the bat. So creating more unemployment will help the state?

I love the drunken look on Newsom's face. He is a known alkie.

He wife, and his ex wife are extremely sexy, bordering on slutty, considering they're lawyers. I love whoever came up with calling Alarcono's daughter as "Alarcon Junior-ette."

She's definitely a fuckable hottie too.
