Intrigue Builds Regarding Exclusive Valley Glen CD 2 Candidate "Meet and Greet"

Is there one last exclusive CD 2 candidate forum sequester somewhere in Valley Glen??

The LA Weekly's Paul Teetor reports and CD 2 Council Candidate Frank Sheftel have rally the grass root masses and the results?? Well lets just say that a crowd will be converging on a Valley Glen church very shortly.

Some background from Paul Teetor's post at the LA Weekly.

A small-scale blueprint of everything that's wrong with L.A. City Hall politics will be on display tonight at a Catholic church in Valley Glen, a community near Victory Boulevard and Laurel Canyon Boulevard in the San Fernando Valley:

Tonight, a land speculator who is pushing for a huge, big-money complex in Valley Glen will be romancing three Los Angeles City Council District 2 candidates who have accepted scads of special interest money for the election next Tuesday, September 22.

Together tonight with the speculator, Dasher Lawless Inc.-- (and no, we are not kidding about that name) -- the three candidates will freeze out seven other legitimate candidates running for the council seat. Most of these seven are serious activists with long histories of addressing problems in the San Fernando Valley. But none of the seven, apparently, are palatable to land speculator Dasher Lawless.

It seems that a Ms. Judy Price, "who sent the invites to tonight's meeting using her title as president of the Valley Glen Neighborhood Association, insists the meeting is not sponsored by the VGNA -- but also insists that Sheftel and the six other civic activists cannot attend -- only the three special interest-backed candidates can enter the church".

Interesting thing here is Judy Price's connection to a certain campaign, something that a "candidate forum organizer" might want to disclose. Price is listed on Council Candidate Paul Krekorian website as a supporter "Judy Price – President of the Valley Glen Neighborhood Association; Past President, Greater Valley Glen Neighborhood Council*" Further, she has also donated to the Krekorian Campaign.

08/06/09 Judy Price (Retired, N/A) Van Nuys, CA 91401
Paul Krekorian Council Member - District 2 1318897 - Krekorian For City Council 2009
A - Monetary Contribution Received (IND - Individual)
[Period:07/01/09-08/08/09] $250.00 [Election:09/22/09]
Also interesting to note, is her association to a certain Valley Glen developer who is the focus of attention of the "Big Two" this evening, with others waiting on the outskirts, one Christopher Alan, principal partner of Dasher Lawless Inc. Near the church, he wants to build his so-called "Victory Towne Centre."
The tackily named "Centre" is yet another massive, two-block long complex proposed in the Valley. It would jam up along the Tujunga Wash between Fulton Avenue and Coldwater Canyon -- the very sort of overbuilding that enrages Valley residents.
It seems that Alan, with Price acting as his political outreach/ spokesperson, thinks he deserve his own exclusive audience with the perceived "Top Three" candidates in the CD 2 Special Election. And special attention Alan will get from the likes of Frank Sheftel, KRLA's Kevin James and the other candidates.
After all, inclusiveness is paramount in deciding the future direction of CD 2.
** Evening update. In conversation with David Hernandez who is working on behalf of Candidate Frank Sheftel, he states that most of the candidates, minus Mary Benson and Joe Essavi, were at the Valley Glen event. While the focus of tonight's event was on the "Big Three", Candidate Tamar Galatzan took time out of her presentation in front of a sparse crowd, to introduce the grass roots candidates in attendance. In hindsight, this event has the hallmarks of yet another, Consultant Eric Hacopian's "campaign black ops" on behalf of his candidate Paul Krekorian, with the likes of Tamar Galatzan, Chris Essel and the "Grass Roots Candidates" as props.
** Latest figures from the City Ethics website shows the Los Angeles County Democratic Party spending $17,749.12 on a voter outreach campaign for Paul Krekorian. This effort exclusive from the Krekorian Campaign will feature mailers and those dreaded "robo calls".

Kerkorian needs all the help he can get in the Sunland-Tujunga area after teaming up with Felipe Fuentes for his "legal" TV commercial. BIG MISTAKE! They must think we are stupisd. We will never forget Fuentes' attempted take over of the Verdugo Hills Golf Course with his AB212 to favor developer Mark Handel. S-T isn't even close to his district. This is a good indication of what's head for S-T if Kerkorian were to win! He is obviously going to be pro development. You know very well that he was in on this commercial!

Vote for Mary Benson, she won't "sell us out"

Event over. No incident. We were all allowed to enter and there was no one even checking. Besides the candidates and their people, there were about 15 community members to sway.

It was kind of like a Spinal Tap-ish event, where you had all this hoopla, then crickets chirping to a room of 3 candidates speaking to each others campaigns. Kind of like a dress rehersal. Zuma, Frank S, David Hernandez, Pete S, Michael McC were there. Judy was there and snarled as she walked past us, kind of like in Junior High.

The energy was nice and all the candidates (Big 3 and Community 5 in attendance) were friendly to each other and it was a nice "wrap party" for us all. And I really do think each of the community 7 all really did a great job in this election cycle and I really think the other community candidates have each done wonders for raising awareness about themselves in the community and everyone had a good story to tell about their activism/participation and it has elevated the entire "activism"/"community awareness" campaign in the city.

There were NO loser candidates, this time compared the the mayor's election we just had. This was a COMPLETELY different experience in this election. ALL of the grassroots candidates brought good things to the table, and no one brought anything bad. No DUMB answers. No real foots in mouths. I feel great about the process from my point of view as an activist myself. I know people have complaints about the challenges of the "Community 7" vs "Big 3 Money Takers," but I think each of the other community candidates DEFINITELY walks away with dignity, has done wonders for the entire community process (Neighborhood Council/Homeowner Associations/Etc.), and each of the candidates themselves rasied awareness on themselves in nothing but positive ways, in my opinion.

Zuma Dogg -- Very well said and quite accurate. I have been so impressed by the candidates. Since the early forums til now, all have grown with confidence. Very impressive. Especially the 7. I wish all 7 could have a place at the City representing the people.

It has been sad to see the ugly Essel mailers arrive and now the Krekorian ugly mailers. They really have spent way too much attacking each other instead of focusing on what they "really" want to work on for CD2 and the City. So sad.

Zuma Dogg - This post really makes you my hero. You really have class.
You are passionate about the issues and you have really brought alot of positive attention to important issues. I really think your involvement made some people get interested. NO matter what happens Tuesday, you have won the respect of many of us. I really hope you will keep raising awareness.
You can and are making a difference.

ZD - Mary Benson should take some notes from you. No matter what your situation, you can and do make an impact. Her rude classless remarks towards you at Colfax have not been forgotten...to bad Kevin James doesn't pay attention to real deal.

Guess we know why Mary Benson didn't feel the need to deem the people of Valley Glen with her presence tonight. Now there is a reason right there not to vote for her.
She only cares about her community not all of CD2.

Excellent post Zuma. Although I agree that there were better candidates than usual, I will not agree that all of them would have made good council members.

I like the idea of a council member who knows a lot more about the city than some of the Community 7 did. That is a cool name, by the way. There were a few candidates who were clueless or in some cases, simply unqualified.

The ideal candidates from the Community 7 would be
1. Zuma for councilman. 2. Mary Benson, although she would excel in a planning deputy position. She impressed me with her planning knowledge and I believe she will quickly learn what she needs to learn.

If neither of you win, both of you deserve a job with the winning candidate. You both go above and beyond the call of duty with your activism and deserve to be compensated now. You would both be so useful to any elected official, unless it was a bad guy. I think the public knows that both of you will always be on the side of the community - and who knows how that would work out around the horseshoe - but I'm willing to give it a shot. It can't be worse than what we have now.

I don't think any of the other candidates were up to the task and I don't think I would be comfortable with any of them in charge of CD 2.

As for the money/endorsement candidates, the only one I would be comfortable with is Paul. The other two are just not to be trusted for way worse reasons than anything I read about Paul. No blog could convince me, nothing I heard them say at the debates convinced me and I attended a lot of them. Nothing I read about them anywhere.

This is going to be a hard Tuesday for me.

After the pathetic display in City Hall yesterday of " we are a happy familty again" piss on all houses. Regadless who gets elected ,he /she will be seduced , blackmailed , bought, if not already, by the thugs who run City politics.

Glad to see Zuma Dogg is still in form and delusional. The postings applauding you are obvious plants by you or your hippy dippy pals. Doesn't change the facts. To be a serious candidate, I don't see the wisdom in besmirching a popular community leader like Price. Not what one would expect from our City Councilmember. But then you won't be, so I guess you can continue your rantings without repercussions.

I see Walter Moore's name associated with Mary Benson. I did a Google search and see that he has run for mayor a few times but has he ever done anything else? What is his deal? What's he about?
