Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Thursday

What's the difference between former City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo and other termed out ex-politicians? Rocky has become a private sector whore as opposed to a long list of other out of work electeds such as Cindy Montanez, Sharon Runner, Wally Knox, Fabian Nunez, Sheila Kuehl, et al who have all been set up with cushy six figure jobs on the government dime by Mayor V or the Kennedy Republican.  And that's probably only because Rocky is so hated by everyone in politics he had no favors to cash in.  Next up: "Which Way Jack Weiss?"

Big split in Valley Latino politics as Coumcilman Richard Alarcon declares support for Jerry Brown for Governor while State Senator Alex Padilla is in the Gavin Newsom camp. With Mayor Villaraigosa out of the race Brown and Newsom are scrambling to scoop up as much Hispanic support as possible. Alarcon's support for Brown confirms what  I have said for sometime is that Brown is poised to win the Democratic primary as older Hispanic voters - who vote more reliably than younger voters - will flock to Brown remembering his association with Cesar Chavez and historic Latino civil rights battles of the 60s and 70s as well as their general comfort level with the senior and more moderate Brown over the liberal and erratic Newsom.

We recently featured writer/filmmaker Matt Olay's animated spoof on Mayor V here on the blog.  The short which has been posted to numerous local blogs as well as covered by the LA Weekly garnered a lot of chuckles.  However Jonathan Lloyd writing at KNBC's blog seems to have a big problem with it.  He also apparently disputes the Weekly's Patrick Range McDonald's excellent article that exposed how little work Mayor Villaraigosa actually does. Perhaps if the dinosaur media like KNBC actually did some journalism they might discover the utter dysfunction that is LA's reigning kleptocracy.

why aren't you talking about the news of zuma dogg getting an apartment? I think that's a major bit of news especially for us MSers and people engaged in local politics.

May I ask you Mayor Sam why you didn't even have the slightest mention of the new format of the LA Times' blog?

It's completely different, free of that ugly blue template and cleaner looking.

It seems to me that if you were genuinely checking local news sources (the Times still sometimes has something noteworthy, and you quote it), I'd like to think that you actually go to their site to find out what the Times' is saying.

It seems that you didn't do that today, or else you'd have noticed the substantial difference.

Please stop mailing in your efforts! It's beginning to show, sir!

Now that the field has changed, you're going to see the Mayor running the table in broadcast media until the newbies figure out how to game it. There is no police media figure. The City Attorney is working on things that don't work well on television. KNBC I think may have been jealous that Villaraigosa has done the ask a Mayor stuff for other stations. Ms. Kramer has been thinking in these terms for years, and nobody on Nuch's side has, and there's a media vacuum now at the top of LAPD.

What's really funny is to see Villaraigosa still spending so much of his diminished political capital on schools. It's the last connection left to the old guard, the old Riordan- and Broad-friendly moneybags. David Hernandez can articulate this pretty well.

Sorry to see KNBC with its ample resources and plush offices picking on the LA Weekly with its grit and ceaselessly hopeful practice of actual democracy. Democracy is something not many are interested in these days, especially broadcast media. It's really funny for someone to scream ethics on one hand and then turn around and render full rear-puckering PR services in their very next breath, only because they can't find "good television."

How funny! They bitch if we cover Zuma Dogg and they bitch if we don't cover Zuma!

I'm personally thrilled Zuma has a place and hoep it works out; I don't see that its news beyond what we've already discussed.

A redesign of the LA Times blog template is NOT news unless maybe for Kevin Roderick.

I don't actually go to the news sites I use Google Reader. So I could care less about anyone's template.

Other than Mayor Sam's of course.

Michael, very funny that's what I've been saying about LAPD. They are damned if they do and damned if they don't. You can't please everyone all the time. We all know who the whiner complainers are. Leet them go blog on Zuma's website. I particularly don't like LA Weekly anymore. They have become tabloid journalism lately. They don't report the hard hitting stories they use to. Its more fluff and gossip. They've lost tons of readers and once you lose them its hard to get back.

Newsom is nothing but a pretty boy who hasn't come out of the closet. He doesn't have the experience like Jerry Brown to be governor. At this rate I'll take old school then young pop.

LOS ANGELES COUNTY - Figures from the Department of Public Social Services show that children of illegal aliens in Los Angeles County collected nearly $22 million in welfare and over $26 million in food stamps in June, according to county Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich.
Projected over a 12 month period, this would exceed $575 million.
Annually the cost of illegal immigration to Los Angeles County taxpayers exceeds $1 billion dollars, which includes $350 million for public safety,$400 million for health care, and $500 million in welfare and food stamps allocations.
Twenty-four percent of the county's total allotment of welfare and food stamp benefits goes directly to U.S.-born children of illegal aliens.

"Illegal immigration continues to have a catastrophic impact on Los Angeles County taxpayers," Antonovich said. "The total cost for illegal immigrants to county taxpayers exceeds $1 billion a year - not including the millions of dollars for education."

Higby like the other bloggers here, Kristen, Spot and so on, clearly are just some schlubs who can't even get listened to in local Neighborhood Councils, jealous of people who can actually raise money and get elected, so they spend their days banging on a keyboard throwing rotten tomatoes at them whatever they do. Some like Phil and Zuma do run, but everyone but they themselves and a few others know they're jokes.

That's understandable if kind of sad: everyone has to feel "important" somehow, even if just by throwing rotten tomatoes. But anyone who deludes themselves that this is a "serious political blog" is promoting the further decline of L A's political life.

What IS significant to note is that these blogs only stay propped up because the lazy-ass mainstream media like the Slimes, Daily News, and of course Stewart and rightwing radio refer to this and even link to it because they ARE clueless and lazy-ass. Anyone who started up a REAL political blog with some class and with comments allowed would have a lock on the "bus."

You're dreaming, if you think broadcast media -- especially TV people are even capable to doing "real" journalism

You'd have more luck talking Zuma Dogg into getting a "real" job or teaching your cat to speak Mandarin.

Years ago, longtime local TV anchor Tritia Toyota was asked before a large group of journalism students how she "broke into" the business.

It was her name -- her real last name, Toyota. The GM of the station thought it would be "cool" to have someone on the news desk who's last name was the same as a then-increasingly popular import car.

She had no journalism training or experience, and admitted it. She didn't talk about getting any additional training, and didn't seem embarrassed at all about the fact that -- like 99 percent of the broadcast readers in major cities -- she was hired for silly, superficial reasons. Pretty hair, nice teeth, jovial manner.

Journalists? Ha, don't make me puke!

So Rocky got a job. Good for him. Having a law degree helped.

But given the reality of term limits, what do you think the other City Councilmembers could do for a living if they couldn't find an office to elected to?

Example, Mike Hernandez went to work as a part-time staffer for Perry and Parks.
