Mayor Sam's Late Afternoon Thoughts

Here's where Paul Krekorian gets into trouble.

The voters are PO'd as of late. Not that Paul isn't a nice guy but if he is tied to Villar then he's got trouble. Remember Jack Weiss?

No doubt that Krekorian will have excellent resources and makes for an attractive candidate but being a carpetbagger and being tied to AV is not going to help him in the super pissed-off places like Studio City, Sunland, Tujunga and West Van Nuys, all places where folks vote in higher than average numbers in a special election.

I got an invitation to Wendy Greuel's pre-assumption festivities.  It's a catered affair at CBS Studios featuring a live band.  Now I know criticizing these soirees especially for the third and fourth floor types is like criticizing Christmas but one has to ask the question: who's paying for this? I am certain not the taxpayers so it means once again we probably have donors donating to another "transition fund" and footing the bill for a high-end celebration that makes the pol happy.  Quid pro quo? Pay to play? Or is Wendy paying for it herself? If that's the case, then kudos, nothing wrong with putting on your own party.  However I did go to Wendy's first inauguration before she became an entrenched pol and that was a low-key respectable affair with no caterers and only a boom box for entertainment.

Finally, have you seen Jack Weiss since he lost the election? He's looking terrible; kind of like Tom Hanks from Castaway (after the plane crashed).

Jack Weiss looks pathetic with his open-necked shirt revealing his t-shirt and three day scruff.

That's what you get, Jack, you jerkoff!

Beat me to it... but chances are it's being paid out of Ms. Greuel's leftover "office holder" account from a not-terribly difficult primary win.

Hey, but how about EVERYONE who sees this RSVPs (not just the invited "connecteds" and see how much we can drain out of her remaining coffers (if you know what I mean. . . wink, wink, nudge, nudge).

Paul wins because of the following reasons.

1- He makes a good impression with people, hard not to like him.

2- Armenians, Armenians, Armenians. There are lots of them in the Valley and they all stick together.

3- He represnts a good part of the district in Sacramento, and has made a good impression with a lot of those voters.

4- Labor is lining up behind him.

5- Chris makes Di Fi look warm and fuzzy, to meet her is not to like her.

You put all that together it spells a Krekorian victory.

Hey, "birds of a FAILURE" -- and all that!

Antonio Villaraigosa was a carpetbagger when he ran for City Council in 2003, just to have a perch from which to run for mayor later. He moved a good 3-4 miles across the Pasadena Freeway, just before the filing date, in order to be in the 14th District. And, he left his wife and kids shacked up in the People's Republic of Mount Washington, for all but the occasional for-the-record visit.

(Now wasn't THAT convenient).

He didn't want to wait the two years and run against Reyes in District 1 in 2005 -- of course, because that was also the year of the mayor's race.

Your right about Chris being stiff.

Saw her last night in Sherman Oaks, boy she comes across as real condesending and standoffish.

And what is it with her and creepy staffers in mormon suits? She has more boddy guards than the president.

She does not stand a chance.

The valley housewives who will decide this election will have no use for her.

Any excuse to attack Jack Weiss. God, can't you leave poor Jack alone? It wasn't personal with Jack, it was just business.

Yes he lost, and very badly too. His political career has been stolen by some unknown son of tuna can factory worker from San Pedro. The poor boy was so humiliated at being defeated by such a huge margin (12.5%) that he couln't even face his supporters at Canters Deli on what should have been a cakewalk victory party.

Trutanich's roller coaster victory forced poor Jack to have to hide in the back room of Canters with Antonio and a laptop. Weiss must have been furious, spitting blood, as he had to sit there as Antonio kept asking Jack what the latest numbers were, and Jack had to tell him that Trutanich was winning.

Instead of making fun of the defeat, failure, and utter drubbing that Jack Weiss has suffered, try to think what it must be like for him.

Mummy and Daddy have always provided for him, and his wife Leslie's trust fund takes care of a comfortble enough life. Big development stuffs his campaign with millions of dollars, and he hires the biggest asshole campaign strategist (Acehole Smith) to massage his campaign. Then the mayor, Antonio himself, gives Jack the VIP treatment at City Hall, gets Chief Bratton to give him the best endorsement a candidate could wish for.

And what happens to Jack? He gets his ass handed to him on a plate by the novice Trutanich.

We should all shed a silent tear for Jack as we think of what it must have been like on May 19, stuck in the back room of Canters with Antonio and the laptop as he watched his career get flushed down the toilet.

What's wrong with you people? You seem to take some sick pleasure in screwing Jack Weiss out of his coronation, swiftboating him with inconvenient truths about his fundraising 'problems,' and then laughing when he shows up at City Hall looking like he's been dragged backwards through a thornbush.

Come on, give Jack a break.

Mayor Sam, I thought you said you were "too busy making oodles of money" to do much on this blog anymore.

But today, you not only post this trash, you also claim that you're doing a great job knocking n-n-nutcake's comments off the blog.

Were you lying about making "oodles of money" or were you lying about not contributing much anymore, or both?

It's true, Mayor Sam will soon be rolling in the do-re-mi.

I have it on good authority he just opened a franchise shop in CD14 that makes and sells customized metal "Neighborhood Watch" signs: "YOUR FAMILY NAME HERE"

(See Parque Esqueleto's opening comment on today's Hot Sheet:

At $400+ for a little slip of tin, someone should be making some bucks from that.

Thanks for your own little local "stimulus" program, Jose Huizar!

I got the same invitation, so did everyone else. It says light refreshments and hors d'oeuvres. If it's at the studio I assume the studio is helping pay for the small bit of food. Notice who is playing at the event. It's a promo to help that show.

Now that it was seen, twittered and emailed across the nation how badly he got booed at the Coliseum who will show up. John & Ken reporting yesterday the honeymoon between he and Lou Parker is over already. She didnt' ride in parade with him. Maybe she took Steve Lopez advice and called Mirthala

Someone should ask him when was the last time he went to a Laker game but like the other jerk off council members had the nerve to be on the bus in the parade. What a bunch of sorry assholes!!! He states he's at a dinner but he posts the wrong name of the organization of the dinner.

Why no posting on #1 thread.
Peta you don't know what you're talking about LAX vs LAPD. This all started in Sacramento where the idiot politicans have no clue what happens in LA. LAX cops are not as professionally trained as LAPD. LAX cops go to the little Redondo Junior College training in Whittier. They don't get the specialized unit training LAPD has. Who the hell do you think rushed in and resolved the foreign airline shootout a couple of years ago? Not LAX cops but LAPD. They have better communication with FEDDs, ICE, DEA and all agencies. LAPD has the specialized units LAX does not. AND LAPD cops who work overtime at LAX are paid by FEDS you moron. Shut the hell up until you do your homework. Who paid you to post this bullshit. Everyone knows about the video of LAX cops sleeping on the job and goofing off aired by KNBC. They have a horrible reputation as a bunch of untrained Barney Fife cops.

LA Times May 12, 2005
The airport police is small, that's enough to do routine things, but when something significant happens they have to call LAPD. It's much easier for LAPD to talk with LAPD and not go through airport police to get things done." airport police say they need LAPD's specialized units such as the bomb squad, and LAPD says it cannot match the depth of resources provided by the airport police.

With respect to LAPD/LAX it's willful duplication of services is the issue. Duh.

By the way, you are pretty easy to spot nowadays. Even when you are changing up how many Zuma/MS hate comments you include. Bo-ring!

Weiss was looking like himself last couple of days and Friday's council meeting. But it's pathetic how obsessed some of you are with him, like Berger/Rumpole/Phred here with his usual nasty comments. That guy says he's going to be bulldogging "ethics" for Trutanich when he's a mean-spirited jerkoff even worse than his running mate Walter Moore?

Guess Trutanich feels he "owes" him for campaigning for him for and doing character assassination for him for months, but this guy's off his leash and a huge liability. If you want to compare anyone to zuma dogg I'd say it's Berger.

What is up with all the comments implying that the Mayor likes Hacopian and chose him? Hacopian did Nick Pacheco's races. Unless the posters are implying that Hacopian threw those races for the Mayor on purpose, and thus no candidate can ever trust Hacopian, then it is highly doubtful the Mayor likes him. Downright laughable, in fact.

No, aside from Emanuel "yay I came in third" Pleitez, Hacopian has pigeonholed himself as the Armenian consultant. Ethnic politics suck, and Eric sees that in every other race except his. That makes him a hippocrate.
I will say this in defense of Paul K. Mayorsam, you are way off on carpetbagging. Let's take the term. These are not New Yorkers attempting to represent the deep south. These modern pols are not even, say, Orange County silver spoons trying to rep the 909. No, they are just people who recognize that communities and problems don't see district lines. Especially the ridiculously artificial ones that are now drawn. If some pol draws the lines right through a community, say Culver City, how can you argue that one side can't represent the other? The lines themselves are artificial to begin with.

Kerkorian will have to be tougher to win this one; Chris Essel can raise big bucks and is a likeable person. Whoever said she is "stiff" has mistaken a little shyness for stiffness, and is just wrong.

Bet the bucks on Essel; Wendy will most certainly endorse her and that goes a long, long way in that district.

"Wendy will most certainly endorse her and that goes a long, long way in that district."

That's why Zuma Dogg has started an education and awareness campaign about Wendy. Her ties to the thug Andrew Cuomo who she used her Council title to raise money for.

But most disappointingly, the people in Sunland-Tujunga who are happy Wendy helped say "No" to Home Depot, not realizing her family, and now Wendy, herself, with her brother OWNS FRONTIER BUILDING SUPPLY.

So by saying "NO" to HOME Depot, she was saying "YES" to keeping business at HER Depot.

THEN, you can check projects that were approved by City Council in the Frontier Building Supply area, and see where those projects drove in and picked up their Building Supplies.

AND, you have to start asking REAL middle class homeowners in her district, NOT her campaign operatives how the HOMEOWNERS were treated compared to the developers and which side Wendy was on.

I have all the horror stories written down from tenants on my legal note pad and will now have to type them all up now that you feel Wendy's endorsement will help in the area.

Yeah, it's a problem. She has that cute, adorable aura.

But there have been more than one lawsuit by tenants against developers Wendy was working with and, EXCUSE ME...WENDY'S SIDE LOST AND THE TENANTS WON!

So there's a little starter for. I thought now that Wendy was out of council chambers she wouldn't be in my life, anymore. But if she wants to extend the political machine of Team Villaraigosa, of which Wendy is shilling for and part of...LOOKS LIKE SHE'S GONNA BE GETTING MORE COVERAGE THAN EVER.

I gotta post the link to Chris Essel's commission appointment. My friend who knows NOTHING about city hall politics was watching it with me, last night, and he was literally howling at the bullshit and how phony she came off.

This guy literally was pointing stuff out to ME.

I think Chris will have to wear a wireless earpiece and Wendy can whisper what to say in her ear from her controller's office as she monitors the meetings on TV.

She's not going to be doing anything in the controller's office, anyway, beside political badgery and getting ready to run for mayor and use the office to gain support for that. (WATCH OUT, NON-WENDY SUPPORTERS! Wendy's nickname is "The Machetti Mom."

Your wrong on a few counts.

1- With city caps in place money is will not be the deciding fact in this race.

2- Wendy has no reason to endorse in this race. What does she get from doing that? piss of one group or the other for no good reason.

3- Chris is not shy, she just comes across as a West Side snob. She is not used to the personal politics that it will take to win this race.

4- Chris CRA position is going to kill her with the valley activist types who hate the CRA.

5- Local community leaders specially on the NC council level love Paul and will be pushing him hard.
