Here's where Paul Krekorian gets into trouble.
The voters are PO'd as of late. Not that Paul isn't a nice guy but if he is tied to Villar then he's got trouble. Remember Jack Weiss?
No doubt that Krekorian will have excellent resources and makes for an attractive candidate but being a carpetbagger and being tied to AV is not going to help him in the super pissed-off places like Studio City, Sunland, Tujunga and West Van Nuys, all places where folks vote in higher than average numbers in a special election.
I got an invitation to Wendy Greuel's pre-assumption festivities. It's a catered affair at CBS Studios featuring a live band. Now I know criticizing these soirees especially for the third and fourth floor types is like criticizing Christmas but one has to ask the question: who's paying for this? I am certain not the taxpayers so it means once again we probably have donors donating to another "transition fund" and footing the bill for a high-end celebration that makes the pol happy. Quid pro quo? Pay to play? Or is Wendy paying for it herself? If that's the case, then kudos, nothing wrong with putting on your own party. However I did go to Wendy's first inauguration before she became an entrenched pol and that was a low-key respectable affair with no caterers and only a boom box for entertainment.
Finally, have you seen Jack Weiss since he lost the election? He's looking terrible; kind of like Tom Hanks from Castaway (after the plane crashed).

Paul wins because of the following reasons.
1- He makes a good impression with people, hard not to like him.
2- Armenians, Armenians, Armenians. There are lots of them in the Valley and they all stick together.
3- He represnts a good part of the district in Sacramento, and has made a good impression with a lot of those voters.
4- Labor is lining up behind him.
5- Chris makes Di Fi look warm and fuzzy, to meet her is not to like her.
You put all that together it spells a Krekorian victory.

Antonio Villaraigosa was a carpetbagger when he ran for City Council in 2003, just to have a perch from which to run for mayor later. He moved a good 3-4 miles across the Pasadena Freeway, just before the filing date, in order to be in the 14th District. And, he left his wife and kids shacked up in the People's Republic of Mount Washington, for all but the occasional for-the-record visit.
(Now wasn't THAT convenient).
He didn't want to wait the two years and run against Reyes in District 1 in 2005 -- of course, because that was also the year of the mayor's race.

Yes he lost, and very badly too. His political career has been stolen by some unknown son of tuna can factory worker from San Pedro. The poor boy was so humiliated at being defeated by such a huge margin (12.5%) that he couln't even face his supporters at Canters Deli on what should have been a cakewalk victory party.
Trutanich's roller coaster victory forced poor Jack to have to hide in the back room of Canters with Antonio and a laptop. Weiss must have been furious, spitting blood, as he had to sit there as Antonio kept asking Jack what the latest numbers were, and Jack had to tell him that Trutanich was winning.
Instead of making fun of the defeat, failure, and utter drubbing that Jack Weiss has suffered, try to think what it must be like for him.
Mummy and Daddy have always provided for him, and his wife Leslie's trust fund takes care of a comfortble enough life. Big development stuffs his campaign with millions of dollars, and he hires the biggest asshole campaign strategist (Acehole Smith) to massage his campaign. Then the mayor, Antonio himself, gives Jack the VIP treatment at City Hall, gets Chief Bratton to give him the best endorsement a candidate could wish for.
And what happens to Jack? He gets his ass handed to him on a plate by the novice Trutanich.
We should all shed a silent tear for Jack as we think of what it must have been like on May 19, stuck in the back room of Canters with Antonio and the laptop as he watched his career get flushed down the toilet.
What's wrong with you people? You seem to take some sick pleasure in screwing Jack Weiss out of his coronation, swiftboating him with inconvenient truths about his fundraising 'problems,' and then laughing when he shows up at City Hall looking like he's been dragged backwards through a thornbush.
Come on, give Jack a break.

LAX cops are not as professionally trained as LAPD. LAX cops go to the little Redondo Junior College training in Whittier. They don't get the specialized unit training LAPD has. Who the hell do you think rushed in and resolved the foreign airline shootout a couple of years ago? Not LAX cops but LAPD. They have better communication with FEDDs, ICE, DEA and all agencies. What is up with all the comments implying that the Mayor likes Hacopian and chose him? Hacopian did Nick Pacheco's races. Unless the posters are implying that Hacopian threw those races for the Mayor on purpose, and thus no candidate can ever trust Hacopian, then it is highly doubtful the Mayor likes him. Downright laughable, in fact.
No, aside from Emanuel "yay I came in third" Pleitez, Hacopian has pigeonholed himself as the Armenian consultant. Ethnic politics suck, and Eric sees that in every other race except his. That makes him a hippocrate.
I will say this in defense of Paul K. Mayorsam, you are way off on carpetbagging. Let's take the term. These are not New Yorkers attempting to represent the deep south. These modern pols are not even, say, Orange County silver spoons trying to rep the 909. No, they are just people who recognize that communities and problems don't see district lines. Especially the ridiculously artificial ones that are now drawn. If some pol draws the lines right through a community, say Culver City, how can you argue that one side can't represent the other? The lines themselves are artificial to begin with.
Kerkorian will have to be tougher to win this one; Chris Essel can raise big bucks and is a likeable person. Whoever said she is "stiff" has mistaken a little shyness for stiffness, and is just wrong.
Bet the bucks on Essel; Wendy will most certainly endorse her and that goes a long, long way in that district.

So by saying "NO" to HOME Depot, she was saying "YES" to keeping business at HER Depot.
THEN, you can check projects that were approved by City Council in the Frontier Building Supply area, and see where those projects drove in and picked up their Building Supplies.
AND, you have to start asking REAL middle class homeowners in her district, NOT her campaign operatives how the HOMEOWNERS were treated compared to the developers and which side Wendy was on.
I have all the horror stories written down from tenants on my legal note pad and will now have to type them all up now that you feel Wendy's endorsement will help in the area.
