Lakers' parade costs City $1,000,000
UPDATE: Monday 10:15pm, Tony V claims he has the whole $1,000,000 in donations from private parties. We'll be checking out his Tuesday press conference for a list of exactly who ponied up the bucks.
The City and the Los Angeles Lakers will split the $2 million cost of the Lakers' victory parade on Wednesday 50-50.
That's $1 mill for the City -- the annual cost of 15-20 full time City employees or $1 mil in City services if you will. Definitely worth it.

After those assholes acted up last night and destroying property who will pay for that or the 5 LAPD officers taken to the hospital. Where are the politicans saying anything about this? They are a bunch of fuckers to keep silent. I say cancel the damn parade. The city will be rewarding bad behavior. If there is a parade boo all the city council idiots who will be on the bus. You forgot to add in the cost of the damage those morons disguised as fans have done the past two nights. Counting man hours and injuries to those PD officers, and we're much higher than $1000000 probably twice that much.
I am no fan of the government paying for parades but since the City of LA has their oppressive business tax which is based on gross revenues, LA will likely come out net ahead after paying for the parade as a result of the increased revenues that the Lakers and other city businesses will receive from the Lakers winning the championship. I gotta go, no longer have it made.

When people are being laid off and the city has declared a fiscal emergency, it is totally and completely irresponsible to have any kind of event that costs a $1 Million.
After last night’s activity at Staples Center, people are going to be reluctant to go to the parade anyway. I know I'm not going.
The city needs to grow up and sit this one out. Just wondering, who else is not going to the Laker parade after what they saw last night?
A small price to pay boost the morale of a city struggling in these tough times. The country has had very little to cheer about of late, be grateful that Los Angeles has something to celebrate. FDR had similar morale boosters during the depression. A dozen salaries pails in comparison to the collective euphoria of a couple of million.

Who do you think will want to come to Los Angeles right at its peak season, Summer after watching the news last night and today. Channel 9 did the worst reporting and in fact inciting people to go downtown. The female reporter sounded like she was in Alaska. She didn't have a clue and was too emotional to have a microphone. Channel 9 is the station that waste time filming car chases and wonders why suspects don't stop.

You can't be against everything. Poll Angelinos and I bet 50% dont care 10% are against it and 40% would be for having a parade. It would be unseemly to have one paid for by the city in these times but there are plenty who will open their pockets to support a celebration of the Lakers season which brought a lot of joy to a lot of people in this city. This city is hurting right now and a celebration is just what we need, more then ever!
3:38 PM...all people who take pride in sports are idiots? Its sort of an American and a human tradition to make support about more then popular entertainment but about pride of place and tradition. Across the world across all classes people bond over sports and have a parade means a lot to a lot of people.
Mayor Tony shows he's a absolute, complete and perfect fool for even entertaining any thoughts of a parade that the city has to pay for at all in services and salaries.
He's a true politician- talking out of both sides of his mouth at the same time. When talking about city jobs and police services, it's all about money being scarce. When it's for a good time, there's no trouble spending, and if it's for a profit-making company that itself pulls in big bucks like the Lakers or the Dodgers, so what if we pay their way?
And can somebody explain to me just why Mayor Tony thinks he should be Governor Tony, other than avoiding actual accountability a private sector employer would expect?

I'm glad the city is paying a million dollars for a parade for the LAKERS. Since it is city money, that means the FANS are paying for it. And the fans SHOULD give back to the LAKERS, not the other way around. We can just fire more people and shut down some more services. I think Jeff Spicoli did something like this in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

Hey, I'm a Laker fan and happy they won. But why the city would EVER pay for a parade for a sports team, bad economy or not, is beyond me. We fans pay for parking, tickets, merchandise, and everything else that keeps the Lakers popular and in the money. So now we have to pony up our tax doallars to pay for their damn parade too?? Players, coaches, and staff are paid MILLIONS. They should foot the bill for the parade FOR THEIR FANS. The whole world is out of control!
