Lakers' parade costs City $1,000,000
UPDATE: Monday 10:15pm, Tony V claims he has the whole $1,000,000 in donations from private parties. We'll be checking out his Tuesday press conference for a list of exactly who ponied up the bucks.
The City and the Los Angeles Lakers will split the $2 million cost of the Lakers' victory parade on Wednesday 50-50.
That's $1 mill for the City -- the annual cost of 15-20 full time City employees or $1 mil in City services if you will. Definitely worth it.

After those assholes acted up last night and destroying property who will pay for that or the 5 LAPD officers taken to the hospital. Where are the politicans saying anything about this? They are a bunch of fuckers to keep silent. I say cancel the damn parade. The city will be rewarding bad behavior. If there is a parade boo all the city council idiots who will be on the bus. They never went to a game and the gang banger Mayor hasn't said one word about his people rioting last night. Biggest reason he should be RECALLED

The City drops $1 million for nonsense like this as if they were paying for a cup of coffee.
Why are these clowns still in office?

You forgot to add in the cost of the damage those morons disguised as fans have done the past two nights. Counting man hours and injuries to those PD officers, and we're much higher than $1000000 probably twice that much.

I am no fan of the government paying for parades but since the City of LA has their oppressive business tax which is based on gross revenues, LA will likely come out net ahead after paying for the parade as a result of the increased revenues that the Lakers and other city businesses will receive from the Lakers winning the championship. I gotta go, no longer have it made.

When people are being laid off and the city has declared a fiscal emergency, it is totally and completely irresponsible to have any kind of event that costs a $1 Million.
After last night’s activity at Staples Center, people are going to be reluctant to go to the parade anyway. I know I'm not going.
The city needs to grow up and sit this one out. Just wondering, who else is not going to the Laker parade after what they saw last night?

A small price to pay boost the morale of a city struggling in these tough times. The country has had very little to cheer about of late, be grateful that Los Angeles has something to celebrate. FDR had similar morale boosters during the depression. A dozen salaries pails in comparison to the collective euphoria of a couple of million.

This is only a morale booster if you are a dumb, mindless idiot who cares about a ball moving back and forth over and over again toward no outcome of community benefit.

YOu think having a bunch of gang bangers yelling and throwing bottles at cops in good for the city's morale. Think again idiot!! NO PARADE..Just have people go directly to the coliseum. Why should LAPD put themselves in the line of fire to a bunch of fucking losers only to get injured on Wednesday. People in this city should be OUTRAGED that the Cholo Mayor Villaraigosa has not come out and condemned what happened last night. Call his office to complain 213) 978-0600
Vote to have all the salaries of electeds cut in half

i am in agreement with everything 1:47 PM has expressed. will the people of california ever demand an end to the stupidity of our government? nothing should surprise us anymore as our once constitutional republic is now run by mafia thugs from top to bottom. we really need to take back our government from these assholes. whatever happened to integrity and balls? our state is a joke because of the self absorbed people who live in it who can't be bothered to pay attention to what is going on and allow the status quo.

Who do you think will want to come to Los Angeles right at its peak season, Summer after watching the news last night and today. Channel 9 did the worst reporting and in fact inciting people to go downtown. The female reporter sounded like she was in Alaska. She didn't have a clue and was too emotional to have a microphone. Channel 9 is the station that waste time filming car chases and wonders why suspects don't stop.

You can't be against everything. Poll Angelinos and I bet 50% dont care 10% are against it and 40% would be for having a parade. It would be unseemly to have one paid for by the city in these times but there are plenty who will open their pockets to support a celebration of the Lakers season which brought a lot of joy to a lot of people in this city. This city is hurting right now and a celebration is just what we need, more then ever!

3:38 PM...all people who take pride in sports are idiots? Its sort of an American and a human tradition to make support about more then popular entertainment but about pride of place and tradition. Across the world across all classes people bond over sports and have a parade means a lot to a lot of people.

Mayor Tony shows he's a absolute, complete and perfect fool for even entertaining any thoughts of a parade that the city has to pay for at all in services and salaries.
He's a true politician- talking out of both sides of his mouth at the same time. When talking about city jobs and police services, it's all about money being scarce. When it's for a good time, there's no trouble spending, and if it's for a profit-making company that itself pulls in big bucks like the Lakers or the Dodgers, so what if we pay their way?
And can somebody explain to me just why Mayor Tony thinks he should be Governor Tony, other than avoiding actual accountability a private sector employer would expect?

Lakers can afford to pay for it all; we should cancel if they won't.
Also we don't need an out of control parade.
Let them march around IN the Coliseum and have their rally there.
Nuch will support this and it is the right thing to do when all City of lA emplyees are taking a 10% cut across the board...

3:38 no doubt a 3rd floor staffer.
It would be funny if Shaq, a Nuch supporter, said he'd pick up the other half IF the Mayor was not allowed to attend.
Do it Shaq, do it! :)

I heard some idiot on the radio screaming, "We did it!"
No, you didn't do anything. Other people did. And they got paid. You didn't do a thing and didn't get paid. But you wanna pay for their ass kissing ceremony, right?
The dummies that attend the mindless-fest have no idea the money paying for the stupid-walk is the same money that pays for the services they need for their babies and parents.
I wonder if the people in South L.A. and East L.A. who are so happy for this parade realize it is money being sucked out of their community to help up the value of LAKERS merchandise.
Maybe we should all pitch in and buy Phil Jackson a new car!

I'm glad the city is paying a million dollars for a parade for the LAKERS. Since it is city money, that means the FANS are paying for it. And the fans SHOULD give back to the LAKERS, not the other way around. We can just fire more people and shut down some more services. I think Jeff Spicoli did something like this in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

The stupidity will be that clowncil district that elected the idiot that supports the city paying for this, oops sorry CD14 and CD8 you loose again. Perhaps we should close the libraries only in the council districts where the clowncil member supports the city paying for thugs at Staples center.

The racist LAPD are responsible for provoking the few and minor events around the Staple Center.
If the racist LAPD don't show up with their draconian police tactics the Laker Victory celebration would make no news.
I have a post showing the harrasment of innocent latino Laker fans by the thugs from the LAPD !!
Are you kidding? said:
Hey, I'm a Laker fan and happy they won. But why the city would EVER pay for a parade for a sports team, bad economy or not, is beyond me. We fans pay for parking, tickets, merchandise, and everything else that keeps the Lakers popular and in the money. So now we have to pony up our tax doallars to pay for their damn parade too?? Players, coaches, and staff are paid MILLIONS. They should foot the bill for the parade FOR THEIR FANS. The whole world is out of control!

There's supposed to be a press conference this afternoon to go over the financing. LAT is reporting 900k coming from the Wassermans and Jerry Perenchio of Univision. Is Mirthala going to come in from Riverside to cover it?
Anonymous said:
Don Culo you're a loser. Everyone knows you have bad blood with LAPD because they busted your sorry ass so stop whining. Those Laker Latino fans were drunk off their asses, many had smoked weed you could smell a mile away so don't expect sympathy from us. We wish the old LAPD would have beat their asses and made MEN OUT OF THEM. $1 million to have two miles lined with officers to keep control of a bunch of losers. That money could have been used for new books in a library, summer music classes for youth, field trips for youth, and more. Why doesn't a reporter ask the Mayor what playoff game he went to? HE DIDN'T

If they had smoked weed it would have been the most peaceful celebration Los Angeles had ever seen.
Perhaps that should be the plan for the future, have Kareem outside Staples with his giant bong.

Now as a Latina Laker fan I knew better than to go to the parade, I'm not 20 years old anymore, I know to expect violence since OUR kids Latino, White, Black, Asian ETC. think it's kool to act a fool. We have all assimulated into the American melting pot. We Beaners of an older age respect others, see what happens when you turn American, you lose your culture, lose your mind. It's the American way
