Krekorian to CD 2: "I'm your man!"

It looks like State Assemblyman Paul Krekorian could not resist the allure of a larger paycheck and has apparently decided to carpetbag over into the Los Angeles City Council race in District 2. He decided not to let the fact that he lives in Burbank be any obstacle to his ambitions. This will come as distressing news to Villaraigosa show-pony Chris Essel, who , according to some, had already called the moving trucks in anticipation of her big victory in the September election.

Frank Sheftel is the local businessman who is running and claiming to be the only local talent in the race.
While Krekorian and Essel will spend big money on their campaigns, Sheftel has been doing the physical legwork necessary for a successful campaign. He and Essel spoke at the Sherman Oaks Homeowners Association meeting tonight. One of the other probable candidates, Jozef Essavi,  looks to capitalize on his name recognition from having recently been in a spirited election race for the L.A. Community College Board of Trustees.

It now appears that Kenny Gerston will not be running for the position, and it is believed that Joan Pelico will also decline to enter the race. Still unclear are the intentions of Former Assemblywoman Cindy Montanez and media personality David "Zuma Dogg" Saltsburg.

Pugliese will put his name on the ballot. He's well-known in CD2, still has his network in place from March, and seems to be much more political than he lets on.

Rita... Ohhh!

Phil: "Sheftel has been doing the physical legwork necessary for a successful campaign." -- exactly what do you know about that subject?

And while we're at it... how much physical legwork have you done so far on your recall ambitions?

Still no mention of the most qualified candidate out there: William "Bill" Robertson, current Director of the Bureau of Street Service. The man who has actually WORKED for the citizens of LA for the last 30 years and has LIVED in the district "forever"! He has the knowledge of what NEEDS to be done, how to do it!

He's the man who sees your potholes are filled within 24 hrs. and desperately tries to get $$$ needed to repave streets (but because of cronyism & politics often fails)...give HIM your support, he has shown he deserves it!!!!!!!!!

Tamara was also at SOHA but declined to be recnogized as a CD2 Candidate. Instead she spoke as city attorney. She started off by saying she has to keep her job first as her new boss was in the room. Nuch stopped by to say hello and thank you.

With Chris in the race, I do not see the mayor raising another 2.5 million for her.

Hey Paul, just why did you endorse Jack for City Attorney?

You can check at zillow.com at Essel's current/old address ... 9245 Robin Drive 90069 ... her house is up for $3.5 million dollars ... it went on the market two weeks ago. By the way, she lives/lived in CD4 ! On a side note, it was showing for sale on zillow over the weekend, but now it's not ... guess she didn't want anyone finding out !!

I think I may start a "Draft Pugliese" Campaign. Louis is one of the brightest guys I've ever met, has deep roots in CD2 and knows how to run a campaign.

Louie, sign me up.

With all due respect to Paul Krekorian, my favorite Democrat after Adrianna from Latino Politics Blog, Joe B and Valley Doll, I have an issue with carpetbagging. That's going to be the mess that CD5 has to deal with though Paul Krekorian is heads and shoulders above Paul Koretz. I think he's a Burbank guy.

Rita - are you offering that to someone? :)

By the way to answer the person's question yes that is Kevin James in the photo with Rita but its not a very good photo of Kevin. Rita do a retake, Kevin looks better than that.

I think Rita and Kevin James both look just like they do in real life. Rita, I get a kick out of your regular appearances on Kevin's show - where was this photo taken? Looks like one of Trutanich's fundraising events or even the victory party? I think I remember?

That pic was sent to me by my friend Karin-- it was taken last fall at the Alex Theater in Glendale at the KRLA Great Debate event-- Kevin was the moderator-- it featured Praeger, Hewitt, Medved and uh..uh.. was there one more? Anyway, that's the only snapshot I've got from that event--Kevin's hair's quite a bit longer now-- and during this past year he's really developed into a terrific orator and his radio show keeps getting better and better-- I never miss it. (And I admit I made a really dumb joke on this thread, but in light of all the "Rita-bashing" that ensued after my HARMLESS "Caption THIS" attempt, I figured I had nothing to lose--might as well 'stoop to conquer'--Ha!)

This race is over folks before it even got started.

On friday Chris had a meeting with AV in which she was told that the Mayor and the county fed will be supporting Krekorian.

The mayor has asked Hacopian to do Paul's race, the Mayors team will be all over Paul's campaign.

If true this is Krekorian's to lose at this point.

He will have the biggest base in the district and the best political team around him.

Sorry Tamar but your stuck at LAUSD for the next few years.

Oh snap.

Chris E. really needed this money too. Damn it. I don't think any of you know what it's like to maintain a $3 million dollar house. So like, if your puny little a/c system cost $4000, hers would cost $8000. Imagine her housekeeping and gardening expenses? Forget the necessities, like her water and power. Holy cow. I can't believe she's going to be stuck now. Ever since the first Measure R passed that tied the councilmembers salaries to the judges, we get all the "good" candidates.

Poor Tamar. She's been looking forward to that $179K gig for a long time.

Hacopian is doing Krekorian's race!

It should make for a very fun summer.

Tamar and Chris can expect lots of chopped heads to be rolled into their CO headquarters.

Good luck gals, hope you know what your getting into.

Paul Krekorian is all around good guy. Cant say the same about Hacopian.

I thing he is hiring Hacopian because he is expecting a tough nasty race, and wants AV's endorsement.

Measure R did not tie CM's salaries to that of judges.

This happened many years ago when the City Ethics Commission was created.

CM's had their salaries raised whenever the state commission raised them for muni court judges, and CM's were no longer allowed to have outside jobs.

Not to many people outside bloggers care about the carpetbagging issue.

Plus Paul represents the area already, and he is very well liked in his district.

Know one knows any one in this race. Paul will be the guy to beat.

Hey 5:03

On carpetbagging- yes, only a blog issue---Unless somebody makes it THE campaign issue.

Geez, otherwise, without the "He's Armenian" "She's a woman" stuff, what the hell are they gonna run on? V's endorsement? They are both antidisestablishmentarians.

ANY viable, non-affiliated candidate in the field will at the very least force a runoff between ANY two of these (Tamar, Paul, Christine) and could in fact get enough votes to runoff him/herself.

Let's all face it- In today's climate a two way race between an outsider and an insider goes to the outsider, done deal.

You know why Eric Garcetti will never deny hitting a kid on a bike in a city vehicle while intoxicated and that he paid off the family?

Because then we would be forced to prove it in court and witnesses would be called to testify. And a pay-off may be one thing, but perjury is another.

So instead he keeps his fingers and legs crossed and hope no one finds out.
