Villaraigosa = Epic FAIL
The new cover of the June issue of Los Angeles Magazine has a large photo of Mayor Antonio Villariagosa on the cover and calls him out for being a failure.
No surprises here... I ran against him for Mayor because I felt he was one of the worst political leaders in the United States. He did nothing to slow or stop illegal immigration... the cost of which (for social services, free medical and such) is crippling both the City and the State -- and there is no end in sight. In fact, he pretty much encouraged illegal immigration with his rabid, socialistic pandering speeches to the masses.
His budgetary mess will cripple Los Angeles for years. All because he was too weak of a leader to slash department budgets or lay off personal staff members. He was a puppet for the teachers and labor unions who used their combined might to force him through the doors at the Mayors Office in 2005.
His pathetic showing in the 2009 election against 9 opponents who were largely unknown (and who combined didn't have 10% of the Mayors money, fame, or media access) was a serious blow to any further political ambitions he might hold.
His embarrassing extramarital affair caused great humiliation both to himself and to people who had publicly supported him.
But hey...don't blame me. I didn't vote for the guy.
Never have, never will.

so LA mag decides to put out a cover with the word failure on it-clever.
By the looks of this blog and ron kayes you'd think LA mag is the #1 mag in the california, or at least Los Angeles.
It isn't.
In fact, it the 62 most bought magazine in los angeles after "Computer World" (which ironically is owned by Larry Flynt)
And if LA Mag is such a great magazine why not tell me this months cover or last months?
LA Mag putting it on the cover is the equivelent of this blog posting another negative scribble about the Mayor -- no bandwidth.
I mean i guess....
Getting Measure R passed with its $40 billion in transportation dollars deserves an F.
Getting LA ever so close to that elusive 10,000 cops deserves an F.
Making the Port of LA the cleanest port in America deserves an F.
Reforming 10 schools with nearly 20,000 students (same population as burbank unified) and increasing their instructional hours, mandatory saturday classes, english only instruction, school uniforms deserves an F (ironically the Roosevelt teachers are upset that spanish isn't the number one language on the campus anymore, english is, yet red spot will still feint their concerns)
But I guess going bigger, bolder and better than any mayor in LA history isn't good enough for the never satisfied constituency.

To 12:19PM - A.V. has gone "bigger, bolder and better" than any other mayor? By whose standards?
On L.A. Magazine: It's on every newsstand in L.A. - that's good enough for me.
On Measure R: A.V. did a good job, however, he did not pass the measure by himself. - No one is all-bad and no one is all wrong, all the time.
On 10,000 cops: With James Hahn's appointed Chief Bratton, a baboon could have stood by watching Bratton do his magic.
Making the port clean: It's a good thing to send all the polluting trucks to the dump and make the port get electric trucks. It's a bad thing to make them do it, knowing they have no way to get the money to buy the new electric trucks and not to help them.
On reforming the schools: If I were a parent, the last person I would want to tell my child what to learn, would be A.V. Reforming any school in L.A. is a good thing. By comparison however, one day A.V. is holding hands with eight-year olds crossing the street, wanting to take over the school district, the next day he's the top story for cheating on his schoolteacher wife. He should be in couple’s therapy, not in our schools.
Lastly: Did I read that A.V. only spends 11% of his time on city business? Is that what you call "bigger, bolder and better?"

LA Magazine is the most read magazine which is only about LA. Comparing it to national Computer World mag makes no sense. That's the lamest spin I've ever heard. Did the Mayor outsource his spin doctors to India?
Most local mags and rags go easy on the Mayor such as the Mayor's "press office" the Times and Daily News. City Beat used to go after him a bit but they're gone. Hope that's not a correlation.
That said, our Mayor is a loser who doesn't keep his campaign promises. Here are a few. "Zoos are no place for elephants!" He said that for a video op at the zoo. Meanwhile poor Billy sits in the zoo without a pool in this hot weather.
Don't forget about his animal platform. He says he's against animal cruelty, then brags about his favorite food, foie gras made by force feeding ducks and geese until they vomit.
He campaigned as the Mexican American son of a poor single mother, yet now has the tastes of a fat rich white banker. He brags about ordering expensive wine, $2,500 shoes and expensive suits. He spends more on hair dye and breath strips than most people do on food, all the while our economy is in a recession.
That said, Phil would have been an even worse pic for Mayor. He blogs that anyone who sues the City is a thief. Tell that to the quadriplegic child that was hit by a City vehicle.
Mayor Sam, Phil is not amusing. If you're going to have a total idiot blowhard post here, please, make sure he is at least amusing. At least Zuma can rap.

Getting away from this blog's obsession with AV...
L.A. Times blog L.A. Now has this:
"Los Angeles County deepened its ethnic diversity last year, with the proportion of non-white residents growing to 71%, according to new U.S. Census data."
"Latinos grew to 47.7% of the county’s 9.8 million residents in 2008, with whites at 28.9%, Asians at 12.9% and blacks at 8.6%."
This means that in the City of Los Angeles if not the County, Latinos are now a majority. Factor in the illegals...
Whites are a minority group in L.A. and they are going to become fewer and fewer. It is the whites that are leaving L.A. and the State of CA, not the illegals. The illegals are staying and continue to grow in numbers. Get used to it.

Hearst officials, who said they were unaware of the last-minute legislative efforts, have nonetheless hired a powerful ally. Since July, they have retained lobbyist Darius Anderson, chief fund-raiser for Gov. Gray Davis. Environmental activists worry that bringing Anderson into Hearst's stable of lobbyists--which includes former Interior Secretary Bruce Babbitt--could hurt chances of Davis signing the bill. Stephen T. Hearst, who manages Hearst's real estate, could not be reached for comment Tuesday. Roger Lyon, one of Hearst's lawyers and designated spokesman, said of Anderson: "I do not know what precise role he will play."

VILLA'S FRIEND
May 10--SACRAMENTO, Calif.--Gov. Gray Davis changed his position on a tax break for the insurance industry after a prominent California insurance company hired one of his top fundraisers as a lobbyist and contributed more than $250,000 to the governor's re-election campaign.
The industry's lobbying to save the tax break, worth millions of dollars, shows how the governor's fundraising and reliance on a small inner circle have raised questions about the way his administration makes decisions.
In October 1999, Davis vetoed a bill that would have preserved the tax break, saying it was "neither fair nor in keeping with sound taxation principles." Now he is supporting the insurers' case before the state Franchise Tax Board -- saying it is a matter of fairness.
"There are no connections between contributions and policy," the governor's spokesman, Steve Maviglio, said. "End of story."
But to at least one state official who was lobbied by the insurance industry, Controller Kathleen Connell, the chairwoman of the tax board, the involvement of Davis fundraiser Darius Anderson appears crucial.

There is a good chance the head of Treasure Island will be out of a job by this tomorrow evening. The former supervisor says he has received a lot of heat since an I-Team interview two weeks ago in which he accused San Francisco's mayor of a sweetheart deal.
"The Treasure Island developers are lead by Democratic Party fundraiser Darius Anderson of Platinum Advisers. One of his partners there is Chris Gruwell -- Newsom's finance director during his mayoral campaign. Last year, Anderson held a fundraiser at his Sacramento office to help Newsom pay off his $400,000 campaign debt."

DARIUS AND GOVERNMENT
DAN MORAIN
SEPTEMBER 25, 2000
Like all governors, [Gray Davis] has used his veto power to establish his authority. Lawmakers assume their bills will fall if they have been too sharp in their criticism of him. At a bash last year hosted by the Legislature, Davis joked about the power of his veto pen. As he spoke, the word "VETO" flashed in lights behind him.
Several lawmakers and lobbyists assume that Darius Anderson, Davis' campaign finance chairman, can gain the governor's ear. Anderson established a lobbying firm last year. His Platinum Advisors now is one of the capital's top firms, with $2.25 million in billings reported in the first year and a half of Davis' tenure, and a blue chip client list of BP-Amoco, Walt Disney, Fireman's Fund, Andersen Consulting, the California Commerce Club card room and many others.
Indian tribes, enriched by profits from their casinos, are one of the most powerful forces in the state, having spent more than $110 million on state politics since 1998. They have given Davis' campaign at least $221,000 this year. The Gregory Canyon Landfill investors gave $10,000 to Davis in March.

L.A. mayor raising funds on Newsom's turf
Cecilia M. Vega, Chronicle Staff Writer
Wednesday, June 25, 2008
"Powerhouse fundraiser Darius Anderson and Assemblywoman Fiona Ma, D-San Francisco, also are listed as event co-chairs and have committed to raising at least $10,000 for Villaraigosa. Guests are asked to contribute $1,000 each to the cause - a race in which Villaraigosa currently has no major opponents, despite a rocky last year in which he admitted to having an affair with a television news reporter.
Neither Villaraigosa's camp nor former Mayor Brown returned calls seeking comment Tuesday.
Villaraigosa has been working feverishly to raise cash for his re-election bid in an effort, insiders say, to fend off possible competition. Recently he has been criticized for the amount of time he has spent outside Los Angeles, in part because of the fundraising efforts."

On that point, how are you - a last place finisher in the election - qualified to point out how another person is a failure? Takes one to know one is the only viable excuse.
And, finally, you never answered my question from the other day: why did you feel that you were qualified to run for mayor, but not for city council first?

Source Interlink, publisher of Motor Trend, Hot Rod and several dozen other titles, is seeking bankruptcy protection. The company, which has been controlled by billionaire Ron Burkle's Yucaipa Cos., listed debt of $1.9 billion and assets of $2.4 billion. This is a prepackaged bankruptcy, which means that plans for the restructured company are already in place. Under an agreement with lenders, about $1 billion of the existing debt will be canceled and about $100 million additional liquidity will be provided. The company's lenders would get all the new stock, and existing equity owners, including affiliates of Yucaipa, would get nothing for their shares. Also, the company would go private.
