From latino politico superstar on the cover of People magazine, to "Failure" on L.A. Magazine. How can someone given so much opportunity to be truly great, mess things up this bad? - James K. Hahn is laughing louder and louder every day. Soon his laughter will be heard in the echoes of the deep dark corridors leading to the mayor's office. - Amazingly enough though, Mirthala Salinas made the cover of L.A. Magazine before Antonio did.

Got to agree with 9:44.

What is the point of doing this AFTER March 3? So L.A. Magazine has a pinata to bash for the next four years or until Tony V leaves office?

After March 3, bashing Tony V is easy. And cowardly. They could have shown some guts and done it before March 3 when the voters could have shown the fool the door.

The Media was SO quiet before March 3rd. Now they all got so much guts...

Remember that "Mayor Sam" heartily endorsed Tony V. almost exactly 4 years ago, even after we warned him about

80 FAKE NEIGHBORHOOD WATCHES

being the midget mayor's only claim to accomplishing anything in two years as a councilmember.

What level of "FAILURE" does that make Higby?

Jennerjahn, geez. What does it matter to you when this story ran?

If Villaraigosa had been either a real, or even perceived, "lame duck" or unpopular mayor this time around, there would have been a rush to run against him by a half-dozen wannabe's much better known and liked than you could ever be.

Then, instead of coming in dead LAST in a field of 10 candidates, you would have come in DEADER last out of 16 contenders. (Heck you'd have probably ended up getting LESS votes because the people would have had more choices).

Would that have made you feel ANY better?

DOUBLE-geez! Be happy for your (rounded UP to) 1 percent of the vote. You've peaked!

One month ago, the Daily News expressed the exact hopes for the Mayor that this article will express--that he forget about governor and work on being Mayor.

And a scribe in the local blogosphere wrote on April 24:

Four factors are now working against Villaraigosa. One, his personal life is a mess and Jerry Brown is not afraid to demonstrate howso. Two, almost no rich people want him to run for governor, as they know he not only can't win but his candidacy could cede the state to another Republican governor. Three, he has really delivered nothing but promises to Los Angeles, and his second term only beginning to look like what should have been his first. Four, the Obama administration's decision to tackle immigration issues this year will only leave the nation's leading undocumented advocate, Villaraigosa, standing out in the political cold with a lot of suspicious-looking baggage on the platform. LA Rag, after looking both ways and fretting considerably, finally decided it was safe enough to cross the street. But the funny thing is, all this could have been avoided if Matt Szabo would have learned to return phone calls from people who ask tough questions as well as from people who promise to lob him softballs.

Willie Brown has one foot in Newsom Camp and another in Villaraigosa camp.

In the end, Willie is with?

Newsom or Villaraigosa?

I wonder if Pelosi had anything to do with this.
