First viable Whig candidate to be named since 1800s
Nuts to you Repuglicans and Dummycrats!
WASHINGTON, DC (Monday, May 18, 2009) - Founded by Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, the Whigs are back. Thirty-six states will be represented at the National Online Meeting for the Modern Whig Party, along with the District of Columbia as well as military personnel stationed overseas. The meeting begins at 8:00 PM on Tuesday, May 19th and is hosted in conjunction with the Florida Whig Party.
The event will be fast paced in a review of the history of the British, Early American, and Modern Whig movements, organizational structure, opportunities for involvement, and the announcement of the first viable candidate for federal office as a Whig since the mid 1800s.
The Whig Party was first established in 1833 and was the original political party of Abraham Lincoln, who served in the Illinois Legislature as a Whig. The Modern Whig Party revival began in 2007 with veterans from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars who believe in fiscal responsibility, a strong national defense, states rights, individual rights, and a moderate approach to social issues. The organization values common sense ahead of ideology and continues to attract thousands of disenchanted Republicans and moderate Democrats.
Representatives from Alaska, Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, and overseas will be in attendance as the Modern Whig Party, which has been called the fastest growing mainstream third party in America, continues to gain momentum from border-to-border and coast-to-coast.
