This is Why The City Of San Fernando is Recalling 2 Councilmembers in their small town. Looks like we should learn from the residents of that small city.
Does anyone know who those people are, maybe we can hire them to recall our Council?

She is Runnig for School Board. What a Promotion especialy when you have no experience in Education and as Mayor she cant control her own city... How is she going to be able to represent us on the school board... Oh, thats Right Antonio Villarigosa will be telling her what to do...
This is one of those things that looks worse than it is. The level of tourism dollars brought into LA because of its image as the entertainment capital of the world far outweighs the costs of this event.
New york City, or many other cities for that matter, would love nothing more than to get all the attention that these awards shows generate.
It is an investment in LA. So when you call your councilmember, be sure to tell them BRAVO!
12:58 - we know the "investment" spin. But the point of investment is that you put up money with some risk to get a potential benefit. The city will get the benefit even if it doesn't put up the money. The Grammys built themselves a nice new theatre (with taxpayer money) so they are not going anywhere. There is no need to "invest." That $125,000 as well as the millions of other dollars the council gives away to events has to come back to the city.
I have a better idea.
Let's just waste our vote on Zuma Dog. That'll change everything, since everybody in the city knows to vote for him.
Talk about nickel and diming like the parking meters, which costs bigger losses from tax revenue: do you idiots and your mascot dogg the fool know how much the music industry (like the film industry) brings into town in related business of everything from hotels to places to eat to limo and clothing rentals to fans' expenses? Do you know how much many cities would LOVE to have these awards shows and are trying to get them? This cost is a small fraction of what the record co's, studios, publicits, etc. spend and generate for the city.
We've lost some big productions like Ugly Betty and more, sure, let's listen to a bunch of clueless morons and a homeless mutt and the weird ladies in Van Nuys, and kill the city's core "glamour industries" which generate so much collateral tourism and dollars.
HOWEVER I'm all for reducing money for every little festival, and the city's already proposed limiting each district to a certain amt. EXCEPT for big city-wide events like this: that was long overdue since certain members abused waivers, while others used them rarely.

City council wastes almost $15 MILLION DOLLARS on this crap. If it brings in tourism then why is the Convention Center losing business? This fee waiver isn't about whether or not the show and tourism itself depends upon it.
Find out how much the event costs, and what it would cost them to move it somewhere else, and the figure will dwarf the amount of the fee waiver.
The event organizers know that it's fee money. Because the City doesn't have a policy on fee waivers, there is no way Jan Perry can say no to them. Everyone else gets a waiver for their events.
It's free money and who's going to turn that down?
Having a policy would also be doing Jan Perry a favor because she'd have a reason for saying no.
Revision to the policy would be great.
The truth is that Grammys are going nowhere. They have a theatre now.
If ANYTHING the Grammy Organization should have the civitas to say "Hey Los Angeles - you've been great to the music business for decades and we know you're hurting so we'll step up. We don't need the fee waiver; we'll pay our share."

Actually no one ever said that about our pro football teams. The fact is that it's easy for pro football teams to pick up their operation and take it somewhere else.
Remember when the Balitmore Colts left in the middle of the night for Indianapolis?
It's not the same for entertainment industry awards shows because all the support business are here, as are the celebrities.
It's wrong to have a knee-jerk reaction that events like these need the taxpayers' money. If you knew the budget of these events, the fee waiver amount is pennies.
It's easy for you to just give away the taxpayers' money like this. Instead, you should think of this money as being your own. Before you spent it, you'd look into what you were spending and what you were getting in return for it.

To all you haters of Jack Weiss he was the one back in 2003 filed a motion to streamline these out of control event waivers. Guess what? That motion has been sitting in the BUDGET & FINANCE committee all these years. Bitter Bernie and his cohorts don't want to push to the full council floor. These event waivers should be for non profits but now are politcal paybacks to corporations. Example, Fiesta on Broadway cost $100,000 fees waived. Huizar allows many of the vendors at this event on Broadway who make MILLIONS to get a free pass on our dime. I'm sure you all know why.
