Leland Wong gets five years for corruption

City Hall insider Leland Wong will get some time for his dirty dealings.

From the Los Angeles Times,

A judge on Friday sentenced former Los Angeles city commissioner Leland Wong to five years in state prison for his role in a "pay to play" corruption scandal that plagued the administration of former Mayor James Hahn.

Wong was found guilty last summer on 14 of the 21 felony counts brought against him in a case that focused heavily on his work for Evergreen, a Taiwan-based shipping company that had been seeking a lucrative lease at the Port of Los Angeles.

With Wong sentencing and with the investigation of Ted Stein drawing to a close, the curtain goes down for the final time on the dubious dealings of the Mayor Hahn era.

No word on the start date for the sequal "Political Follies of Villar".

Haiku thinks he/she is so smart writing about people's penises and thinking it's an expert on politics.

I am convinced Haiku is Higby. That photo on Haiku's profile I've seen at iStockPhoto.com.

Dumbass.

Come on Coffee Cakes. Show us how smart you are and back up your claim.

It is interesting, in a disappointing way, the Haikula feels that the best means to increase count is to toss adolescent insults at posters. You would hope that she would rise above that and focus her comments on the more intelligent people who would participate in the blog if it didn't sound like lunchtime at the middle school.

I wonder how many years Palin will get for Tropper Gate? Higby and Haikula can be Sarah's pen-pals.

I guess it "pays to pay to play" but it doesn't pay to play the role of dirty-deed-doing-and-hiding flunky for the real crooks who got off scot-free. No penalties for the businesses or the politicians of whose cheating Wong was merely a part.
What a waste of 5 years of investigative work.
All it really does is reinforces and clarifies what cheating with insiders you can get away with, and the value of flunkies.
Wong probably has a ton more undiscovered payoff money, and after doing a little, if any time, will live high on our hog happily ever after.
See? The system DOES work. Just not for honest people and voters.
