BREAKING NEWS!! L.A. Unified School District Refuses To Honor Murdered Students Before Today's Home Game!
Not even a moment of silence!!
According to Mr. Jenssen, the Vice Principal over at Los Angeles High School, "We have done enough for your son Jamiel, the players need to focus on the game". This is what he told my brother today on the phone.
Last night, the Football Coach came to the house and told me and Anita about today's first home game at Los Angeles High School. Jamiel took Thomas to football practice, so he wasn't here. They are playing Washington High School today. Unfortunately, Washington High lost one of their football players, Eric Sims, to gun violence. They were going to meet in the middle of the field and have a moment of silence for the players. They even wanted Thomas to come to the game and be apart of the event on the field.
The Coach called me right before we were leaving for the game and said everything is cancelled! He said they are not even going to mention Jas name. It's like it never happened! The Coach sounded so sad. You could hear it in his voice. He said, "Now I have to call the Coach over at Washington High School and tell him we can't even mention the kids name".
There was a meeting at Los Angeles High School today about the events. "They", decided that they, have done enough for Jas.
Enough for Jas? L.A. High School received a brand new field because of Jas. They received a brand new gymnasium because of Jas. Not to mention all of the other perks they received, because of Jas. And now, the first home game, you can't even give him a moment of silence?? You can't even give the innocent victim, Eric Simms at Washington High School a moment of silence?
I can't even talk about everything the V.P. said, right now. I'll post the rest later because I'm too upset to finish telling you everything. All of these KIDS getting murdered on the streets and they want to focus on the game?????

The school district supports illegal immigration. You didn't know? They get money for illegals.

That's unfortunate. Once again the liberal politicians that run LAUSD are letting the ethnic politics that dominate LA run the show.
However, LAUSD is being (slowly) broken up from inside. More and more schools are going charter. The ride is over.

The LAUSD then wonders why morale is so low and why the schools perform so badly. The leadership is a model of boorish behavior. With that as a model, how can they expect to see more from their students?
There either was pressure put on the administrators (principal) by the political interests that look to shield criminals from accountability, or, the principal is the one with issues. If they said they have "done enough", then the person is an outright jackass.
Administrators act tough but they are really afraid of their own shadows with all the nastiness that goes on in LAUSD. Threats of lawsuits keep the principals mired in the ongoing atmosphere of mediocrity. Teaching in this system at the high school level taught ME about that reality- how the important things are left to languish while valuable time is spent on frivolities and self-indulgences that benefit no one, least of all the students. The chasm between administrators and teachers continues to be one of the failings of the system.
The LAUSD talks about how it will be helping the students. Jamiel Shaw, II, was a student who was not allowed to continue in life. He would probably be a key player in the school's team today were he not murdered. How can they not do this very simple yet significant demonstration of compassion to honor his memory and include the same sensitivity for the other victims of violence?
Talk about mixed messages, lousy p.r. and absolute failure of any mission of bringing people together. This school decision rates a "FAIL".
Monica Garcia, did you interfere with what's going on? You should and your colleagues should have assured the Shaws and other families of the worthiness of the planned moment of silence. If you want to interfere with a school, its principal's decisions, untruths and morale destruction, try reviewing the nonsense at Eagle Rock High that was glossed over in the last academic year.
This could have been one shining moment for this school. Who will step forward to accept responsibility for this deed?
My sympathies are with the victims of violence, and ignoring their loss is a shame and plainly void of any humanitarian spirit, at the least.

What does this post have to do with spinning for Palin and McCain.
I only want to know how great Palin and McCain are and what a goof ball Joe Biden is.

people are tired of hearing about the Jamiel Shaw murder, liberals and conservatives alike. There are murders everyday in this country, and as sad as it is, we need to live with it. Grieve for those and move on. The City, the Mayor, and Sheriff did more for this gang killing than any other killing. Be happy and stop complaining.

They should have a moment of silence for the first home game! Are you kidding me?? Not cool.
Everyone should be complaining about all this killing. One killing is one too many!
That's what's wrong, we keep getting over it and accepting it. Every family who lost someone to violence should be screaming and shouting.
Don't stop Shaw Family! You still have support

The LAUSD should be ashamed. While Sergeant Shaw was serving her country in Iraq, an illegal alien gang member killed her son. Rather than show some backbone and stand up to support our troops, and to protect our children, they've chosen to sweep it under the rug, to pretend it never happened.
A moment of silence in memory of one of their students wasn't much to ask. What kind of example are they setting for L.A.'s children?
Remember, evil prevails when good men do nothing. An anonymous commenter suggested they were tired of hearing about the murder of Jamiel Shaw. I wonder how soon they will tire of hearing about it when gang crime takes one of their family.

The insidious aspect of gangs besides the direct physical harm caused is the intimidation that can result in neighborhoods, already the case with many, where simply going outside your own door involves a risk.
Letting things be will just move us closer to this condition in places where people thought "It's not my problem." Someday it will be.
It's also so very nice to see the unabashed ignorance displayed by those who see no connection with the District operations and culture and the decisions made at the school sites.

12:22pm- You've blended in two separate matters into one, distorting the true conditions. The fact of illegal immigration status is one thing all alone, and that doesn't mean everyone who is illegal should be deported as far as Jamiel's Law, or the Zine motion waiting in City Council, is concerned. It is only applicable under limited conditions. Maybe it has been explained incorrectly or never at all to you, but I do not see the purpose of allowing gangsters the freedom to act as civil terrorists. Your views may be different.
The part that is relevant, at least to this thread, is someone who is a criminal as a gang anger AND is ALSO in the U.S. unlawfully.
The other gangbangers, if citizens or legal residents, possibly just as responsible for crime as any fellow gangster, can't be deported. We CAN attack a part of the problem and that is very plainly evident that it removes criminal before they commit even more crime.
The idea is to remove the threats to life and limb that really should not be in the picture and thus protecting other people who live here, legal or not, from their conduct.
When you mention illegal aliens fighting for this country in Iraq (and elsewhere, as well), you get outside the topic. It doesn't fit the problem here since we are only talking about criminals, specifically gang bangers. Military personnel of all origins are trying to do something positive and are not the problem, and acting like they are is outside the area covered here.
There is one thing that's been mentioned that raises another point: Whether illegal aliens are permitted to join the military. Potential recruits have to present something that represents they are here lawfully, and maybe it's been forged or maybe just skipped by the recruiter, but the law as another recruiter explained it, was that you had to show something to establish legal residence. The law does not allow illegal aliens to enlist. But that can be checked out on your own.
The ultimate concern here is that no matter who does it or who is killed, "murder" IS a crime by definition. In a civilized society, whatever can be done to reduce, prevent or control the problem is of value and such action should not be held back or negotiated for as your comment implies.
The blanket condemnation of illegal aliens in these discussions is similarly unwarranted, they being among the victims of gang violence, as well, and should be protected, as we all should.
