BREAKING NEWS: Caruso's In, High Profile Endorsements to Come

BREAKING NEWS -

Inside sources are telling us that as per speculation here on Mayor Sam, megabucks developer and longtime civic leader Rick Caruso will announce that he will challenge Antonio Villaraigosa's re-election as Mayor of Los Angeles.

Amongst the chatter is that an "announcement" and campaign team are being readied.

As well as two extremely high profile endorsements that might not please the Mayor.

This will test how serious our three gadfly friends about running also. There is no way they get into a runoff, so the only reason to run is ego gratification, and if that's the case I haven't got time for them.

Caruso sure sounded like a candidate. His keynote address included a vision for Los Angeles as a collection of neighborhoods with "each having its own sense of place". He recalled the famous Gertrude Stein quote "there's no there there", and said that's what many people say about Los Angeles today.

He also took a shot at Villaraigosa's failed priority of reforming the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). To loud and sustained applause he called to "break up the behemoth called LAUSD" and "free our children from this educational gulag".

Oh crystal ball blogging burros, I have some questions.
What high profile figures do you believe will back this man?

Will this man push for more unwanted developments?

Would you tell us what you think his "politics" will be?

Is he worth the gamble?

If so, will Walter Moore drop out of the race so we could get every precious vote behind this man?

Is there hope?

4:22, you neglect to add that Caruso envisioned LA as a series of neighborhoods, "even if I have to build them myself," to the glee of the salivating developers in the roomful of Republicans. Talk about ego and selling out for personal profit.

Do you think for a minute affluent areas want more of his traffic messes in their hoods? Will the wingnuts complaining about upscale malls in tony areas replacing run down buildings welcome the traffic in THEIR neighborhoods? The ones he'll replace with his faux malls?

And he won't build them in South LA. IF he used his own money to re-build the projects with malls around them, great. But no way will he "do it in the hood."

Cooley was there and probably egging him on like he has Carmen, figuring he can then control the City Attorney AND the Mayor whereas now, he refuses to cooperate and work with other law enforcement agencies, even LAPD including on gang issues.

And how is that different from before?

No one EVER really believed that Wacko Walter, Zero-Brain Dogg, or David "Not a PropR Candidate" Hernandez would or even could be taken seriously by more than a few hundred people, each. Did they?

For ZD, it would have only been a few dozen - impotent protest and slacker votes, all.

If so, lend me some of what you're huffing.

NOW they'll just all take Anti-Tony votes away from Caruso, and make absolute certain we get four more years of AV's "Traveling Pants" roadshow, at our expense.

Wacko's done it before. Remember?

Geez, Joe B.

"Putting a developer in charge of the city" -- well, hell, that's not really any different than now, is it? Except maybe we're doing away with any pretense to this dance of death . . . skipping the foreplay . . . just CUTTING OUT THE DAMN, EXPENSIVE MIDDLE MEN.

The ring of developers around the City Council horseshow can just become Caruso's "Mini-Mall Cabinet" and sit in his ante-room, waiting for their next assignment.

Here's a bare hillside we forgot about -- what am I bid?? Here's a park that we can't afford the upkeep on. Let's see how many condos we can cram onto it.

And as for all those lobbyists that the developers have been paying to grease things for them at City Hall -- sorry, bud. Get in the unemployment line behind any of the Republicans holding down jobs in DC.

WHO NEEDS YOU!

In these tough, cash-strapped coming days of the Obama "New Squeal" when there will be a handout in every pot and a repossessed car following every tow truck, one way to save money and make the few remaining breadwinners more prosperous will be to cut out such unnecessary layers of "government" as lobbyists and "CONsultants," and just let the people who already make all the campaign contributions actually HOLD the offices they've bought and paid for many times over.

It's only fair.

7:51, Well said and you may be right.
At least as it stands now there is at least a filter between developer's
and the projects they drool over. At least it buys us the time to examine
their projects and challenge those that need rethinking. I think that filter may get much thinner if Caruso's in charge.

its' a shame that all we can see for this race is how much or how little we will be screwed over by which clown we vote for!!! would you rather die by fire or freeze to death? either way the city is still in the same shitty hole that it is now.

Can someone explain to me what the difference is between Caruso and AV regarding development?

If the goal of the three whackos is to defeat AV, then supporting Caruso would be their only choice.

But if their goal is to fulfill a need for attention, then they try to get.

I would like to see a "National Police Brutality Week".

Let the cops beat the hell out of the thousands of low life cholos all over Los Angeles.

It would really boost police morale and put a smile on many of our faces, those of us who are sick and tired of all the cholo punks ruining our schools and city.

Interesting news Higby.

But Caruso already has a campaign team with Mike Murphy leading the charge.

And well one thing is for certain.

Caruso is not running.

Murphy is a pro, and letting this type of announcement leak on this type of lame blog is not what a "pro" does.

And if they can't even get their announcement right (i.e. being leaked by Waldman to you) than you can be rest assured that any Hertzberg endorsement that you believe is the big news is wrong.

Caruso is not in.

Call Waldman back, he owes you another In N Out burger.

Being blinded by hate of Mayor Villaraigosa has warped yuor mind, Higby.

Caruso would never take it on unless he thought he would be anointed, and that just isn't happening.

The Mayor has the money and the votes and Caruso has two projects that need his personal attention to get done. He has no time to stop and run a brutal campaign, much less take office if he won.

Why bother, when in four short years, he can run without having to face a well funded opponent?

Caruso didn't get rich being stupid. Even osme of the fools you keep around here could figure that one out if they could stop hating Antonio so much.

Let's go back to intelligent discussions and once again cancerl out that homeless vagrant moron so we don't all have to scroll through the long rambling Holden Caulfield wonderings of nothingless he insists upon posting.

To all you haters who think just because Caruso is a developer that would make a bad choice for Mayor think again. This is a man who wins the hearts of the communities he wants to develop his projects. This is a man who is respected by minorities all over the city. This is a man who people grativate towards because he doesn't give them bullshit like our politicans. He's down to earth, decent and respectful. Caruso whether he runs or not already has the support of many all over the city. People are sick of the horrible performance as Mayor of Villaraigosa.

I would be happy to explain the difference betwen Caruso and AV re development!!!

Ready???

Caruso knows when to stop!!! AV has no clue as to what's happening with the economy! On the worst day in the stock market two weeks ago, AV called a press conference to say that he would add 20,000 more AFFORDABLE HOUSING units!

Caruso has a brain!! AV has an empty cavity upstairs!!!!

You left out Matt Middlebrook. What will he do, wipe everyone's asses?

Don't forget, Middlebrook is the only one that knows LA politics and look how he helped out Jimmy Hahn against Antonio (second round).

I agree, Higby, Hertzberg's endorsement is a net ZERO, maybe a negative.

Sorry Higby, go back to your girlie magazines.
