Two More Fatal Shootings in SLA - Thanks Jack Weiss

Jack Weiss's office is complaining today that he's not getting a fair shake here, when the reality is that this Chair of the City Council's Public Safety Committee is overseeing the endlessly violent screwing over of the city. From the lack of rape kits, to multiple fatal shootings in South Los Angeles today.

The spinners in Room 440 are doing their usual squirming. Cry me a river.

No word on whether Special Order 40 is in play today, but you can imagine it's just a matter of time. Would Jamiel's Law have prevented today's shootings? We will find out soon enough.

Maybe Mr. Weiss should spend more time in Council chambers, instead of making campaign conference calls in his taxpayer-paid offices, with taxpayer-paid phones, on City Council's time. Maybe some more time in the field, too.

Got that, SWeisslestick?

Mr. Weiss wants to be City Attorney. But the job is about doing, not grinning for the cameras. This time, Mr. Weiss's spin will be questioned at every turn.

Here is the breaking story from the Los Angeles Times on today's fatal shootings.

~~~
While we are on the subject, Adeena Bleich, a deputy to Jack Weiss is running for his City Council seat. Based on what? That stellar Weiss record?
Haikula's really, really desperate now. I'm sure his office is worried about you.
What does worry me is the idea that a rightwing, loud grandstander like your Carmen. Someone from outside metro LA who has no public track record, no public experience except 20 years ago, and has been one of Rocky's chief advisors.
Luckily it's not going to happen. But lucky for him, he's got you and anti-westside (hence, no business sticking his nose in CD5) Ron Kaye and your minions, while Weiss has the Times and other mainstream media and private support.
The sheer stupidity of blaming Weiss, the main proponent of beefing up LAPD and national safety efforts, for something that happened in South LA is amusing.
Okay, now go read the Times and post another nonsensical thread. And the usual handful of spiteful old reactionaries will pop up, making unsubstantiated claims about numbers of signatures and everything else, while they decry gridlock and obstruct mass transit, surface and immediate solutions to traffic problems that are supported by independent studies like Rand and the one quoted here on MS from Steve Hymon's Bottleneck blog.
Yes, I do care that we achieve solutions to these problems and I do care who takes over CD5, and about the future of our city. Okay, now gp read the facts and rant on with your desperate spins.
Absolutely, 1:50. You read it perfectly.
It's either Weiss, or a Weiss staffer paid by the city. Or the Missus who, for some reason, doesn't want to comment publicly on the paternity suit filed against Jack.
Oh, did you forget that, 1:26?
How about Jack commenting about that? There is no desperation here. It won't impact my life a thimbleful.
Weiss wants to be in the spotlight, but not get the work done. Why don't you comment on what Haikoola points out? Why is Weiss sitting on Special Order 40?
What is he doing about all of the other public safety issues that he's in charge of?
Stop spinning and start explaining.
That is SO City Hall! To say that you've seen (and critiqued) every media story on this jack weiss story, yet you're not from jack weiss's office.
Good try.
It is that kind of mentality the has clogged the west side of Los Angeles. The "Carmen is an outsider, so he can't help" mentality is what put LA in the hole.
Maybe what we need IS an outsider. Someone unlike Jack who isn't entrenched.
Silver spoon Jack. Would you like to open up the conversation about that?
Blaming JACK WEISS completely for the referenced problems is a little more than even HE deserves. Of course, he has shown no leadership, which, alone, doesn't make him much different from the others on the Jamiel's Law matter, but HE HASN'T SAID HE EVEN CARES about the Jamiel's Law motion, AND he has FAILED to push it out of committee, which he could have done typically after 30 days.
The murder of Jamiel II was on March 2nd and Dennis Zine's motion modifying the ballot proposal's "Jamiel's Law" was made in early April. Six months have passed and the hearing is supposed to happen this month, October. There is no leadership to be found in the city council chambers when it comes to murder and actual enforcement of laws.
Unless Adeena Bleich actually comes out and disavows the boss AND his actions throughout his term, she should be treated as an extension of the tone and style of Jack Weiss himself, and that's not acceptable from most, if not all, angles. Look for a new CD-5 rep.
JACK should share blame with the colleagues in "the horseshoe", most of whom are probably saying to themselves, "I'm glad I'm not in HIS shoes." (Well, to them, “Not yet”, but that moment may arrive soon enough.)
The one thing that MIGHT redeem WEISS is to go in with both feet and fight FOR the passage of the motion on JAMIEL'S LAW (which means dumping campaign manager, Mayor Tony, the Special Order 40 disciple) and MAYBE that would show, finally, some interest in pursuing JUSTICE and ENDING MORE KILLING. It all part of the image of fighting REAL crime that a City Attorney would be expected to do.
Too much of a challenge? Not worth it? It's Jack's choice now.
Are the third floor spinsters back on this blog? Maybe Red Spot can enlighten us.
We already know Obama has many paid secret operatives commenting on this blog to try and discredit Higby and Haikula. We all know how Haikula has millons of daily readers and has the power to influence the presidential election. We also know all about the low down and dirty paid dummy-crats on this blog beschering the fine name of Haikula.
Just panning Jack gets you nowhere unless you can show us there is a better alternative out there for whom to vote...
Ok, I know you've got a great unit and such, but have you ever tried to get someone elected in the City of Los Angeles?
Stop beating on Jack for long enough to put the Trutanich case forward.
Haiku posts nothing about Carmen cuz she's got nothing more than slinging mud and rumor and innuendo along with his other classy supporters. Who've already announced on this blog and elsewhere some of their underhanded tactics like pulling up yard signs and trying to get Rocky's billboard buddies to give them the same treatment, free or steeply discounted ads for a shady deal.
Carmen has no track record to run on, nothing but backing from Cooley who wants a puppet at City. What little track record he has is a negative with anyone outside of Red Country, but this is LA, so not a chance -- even with all of Walter Moore's and Ron Kaye's older, suburban and actively anti-metro LA conservatives and the wingnuts.
I would be glad to talk with Mr. Trutanich. All he needs to do is contact me.
So that you know, I am not trying to "accomplish" anything. There is no end-goal, other than to ensure that Mr. Weiss is seen for what he is.
90041 made a beautiful point: if Ms. Bleich wants to blaze her own path, she needs to disavow Mr. Weiss. Otherwise, she is literally and figuratively an extension of Mr. Weiss.
Hi 4:24pm,
If what you say IS true, which it's not, it is better to take a person without a track record over a person like Weiss, who has a track record of failure, traffic congestion, density and worst of all, enormous arrogance and dismisaal of the constituents. He is aloof and distant.
I will take someone without a track record like this any day!
The truth is, Mr. Trutanich DOES have a track record. You purely lie when you suggest differently.
It is the same thing when you deny that Mr. Weiss faced recall. What? So they didn't get enough signatures, but they did gather 20,000 signatures. They didn't reach the required amount, but a huge amount of people were willing to get involved and TRIED to rid us of Mr. Weiss.
So, you go right ahead and suggest that that's technically not a recall. Sure. That's right. No recall. Just 20,000 people who wanted one.
That's what we expect to hear from those of you in Mr. Weiss's office.
Love, Haikula
Haikulo, you're as gullible as you are ignorant and uninformed. That recall group never got the numbers of signatures they're claiming, which is why they wouldn't let the City Clerk count their votes, to avoid being caught lying. The woman they hired to run the campaign was quoted in the Times saying so, in do msny words.
This little bunch of bitter people had no problem forcing an expensive recall on the city less than a year before an announced election, for no reason other than they didn't get to pull his strings and therefore didn't like him. They want zero development instead of realistic compromise and don't like anyone who's living in the real world. Darned right he's got a solid track record and Century City is acknowledged around the country for its architectural design, combining "smart" and "green" growth in uniquely attractive and functional ways. The DASH buses serving the area are loved by the residents and HOA's there and at UCLA. Where I work as well as living in the district and have found his staff extremely responsive like with our parking problems.
Lots of people are his active supporters, they just don't and wouldn't read blogs like this or call in to KFI. You're right, that's your Carmen's crowd, the ones who think NPR and KCET are communist organs.
If there's another year delay on relieving traffic, thank your friends who are suing the city over converting Pico- Olympic into partial one-ways, just as the RAND study and this week's westside traffic report referenced by Higby below (and Steve Hymon's Bottleneck Blog/ LA Times) advocated as ideal and at least worth a try now because it's cheap and likely to work.
You know, sued by the same people who claim they don't want to put the city to unnecessary expense in counting fictitious signatures. Out of all the people on Council, he's been among the few who waste the least amounts of money or time on nonessential matters and focuses on solving the problems. As a moderate he gets along with both left and right as issues arise but isn't dogmatic. All qualities that any rational person can support. But you're neither rational nor informed as you prove again and again.
Still waiting for Carmen's track record, or are we to believe that just being Cooley's puppet is enough? Cooley's also egging on Caruso, hoping a Republican developer who wants to remake all LA in his own image for his own profit will make a Republican sweep. Keep dreaming, Haikulo.
As for Carmen's "record," if they want to contact me, they are welcome to. I am going to do things as I see fit, not as you do.
To me, the situation is this: Jack Weiss sucks, and he is aloof and arrogant. So give me the alternative. Until I personally have good sentiments about Jack Weiss, I will continue to share my thoughts on him.
Janice Hahn represents San Pedro and may be torn between the Democrat and someone from San Pedro and with roots in her fave Italian town of Ischia as well as Croatia. Both places are represented in San Pedro.
And Janice still resents Antonio for beating her brother and might want to get even with anyone he supports.
But other than her and maybe Zine, I can't think of anyone who'd go for Nuch and Cooley and Lord help us, them and Caruso as Mayor, ruining real neighborhoods with his endless clone faux vullages.
With the demographics of LA, chances of 3 Republicans taking over the City and County are next to nil. And like it or not, Villar is still the darling of the liberal "elite" and big money rainmakers, and they're onlye nergized by the thought of provincial NRA bumpkin Nuch and Cooley taking over law enforcement.
Janice Hahn today, telling that when her Prop A/ prop tax for gang programs passes, it will make streets safe again and bring tourism back to L. A. and revive our economy. Look to Janice Hahn to fix everything, Janice Hahn knows how to fix problems and get things done.
Another of Janice's bright ideas, urging the LAX-area hotel workers to demand a living wage, has resulted in unknown amounts of lawsuits against the city and a recent workers' strike that has hurt the hotels and L. A.'s image in the business community. THAT, dear Janice, is what's hurting our economy.
I'm sure every candidate that is running for city attorney has some level of experience in prosecution. Let's go down the list of candidates:
DAVID BERGER: Who and what "gangs" has he prosecuted? Before answering, watch Trutanich's commercial ... that's called "proof". Don't risk any more credibility if you can't provide fact-based evidence of what you claim. One last suggestion, look up the gang LEADER that Trutanich prosecuted ... he's on Death Row. Enough said.
JACK WEISS: Let's be honest, it's over for Weiss. Let's be even more honest, I did donate to Jack's campaign so I can check the "political box" and have my name on his contributor list to prevent any issues coming from the Mayor. As you know, on March 3, neither the Mayor nor Jack Weiss will know who I vote for. Since I'm an acquaintance--not a friend--of Jack Weiss and I will see him shortly after he loses, I've prepared my speech: "Look Jack, it's not your fault ... you're over-qualified for that job anyway. Maybe Ace Smith should have included your prosecution of the former Mouseketeer in a direct-mailer or something. Well, at least you know I supported you." -- The end.
MICHAEL AMERIAN: I'm not sure if that's the correct way to spell his name, although I can't spell my secretary's name. Based on the fact Michael Amerian and my secretary serve the same purpose, I should be fine. Two words: "training wheels".
NOEL WEISS: Noel is a very nice man. I would love to have been at the bar with Noel the night his best friend called and said "Noel ... I got it. You've heard of that guy Jack Weiss right? You know, the guy that everyone hates. Look Noel, if you run for city attorney, and enough blind people vote, they may accidentally vote for Noel Weiss instead of Jack Weiss. I love you man. You can do it!" -- Noel, tell your buddy it doesn't work that way.
CARMEN TRUTANICH: To determine if Carmen Trutanich is really "TRUE", I did some research. First, I reviewed the accusations coming from the Jack Weiss campaign about Trutanich's involvement with the NRA. Not only did I discover that Trutanich SUPPORTS gun laws, he will enforce all gun laws, without exception.
There is a saying, "Don’t throw stones if you live in a glass house". Which brings us to the best part of my story; while researching the NRA, I ran across an issue that will interest everyone. As most know, Jack Weiss is endorsed by the Brady Campaign. The Brady Campaign works to enact and enforce sensible gun laws, regulations, and public policies to prevent gun violence. Sounds good so far right? What if I told you that Sarah Brady, the crusader for stricter gun-control laws, bought her son a powerful rifle for Christmas in 2000, and bypassed Delaware state background-check requirements? Brady reveals in a new memoir that she bought James Brady Jr. a Remington .30-06, complete with scope and safety lock, at a Lewes, Delaware gun shop. "I can't describe how I felt when I picked up that rifle, loaded it into my little car and drove home," she writes. "It seemed so incredibly strange: Sarah Brady, of all people, packing heat."
Let's look past her involvement with an organization that works to enforce sensible gun laws to prevent gun violence, and bypassed Delaware state background-check requirements. Why did she buy her son a scope?
All joking aside, Jack Weiss is endorsed by the Brady Campaign and Sarah Brady did bypass Delaware state background checks to purchase a powerful rifle for her son in 2000. In return, if Sarah Brady tried the same thing in Los Angeles while Carmen Trutanich is City Attorney, I firmly believe that Trutanich would prosecute her. Conversely, if Sarah Brady tried the same thing in Los Angeles while Jack Weiss was City Attorney, I firmly believe he would ask for more endorsement money.
Second, after reading that the Los Angeles Times endorses Carmen Trutanich for City Attorney, there is no debate. Trutanich will be the next City Attorney of Los Angeles. In fact, it's not even worth mentioning the last candidate.
Congratulations on the election Mr. Trutanich!
