NY Times: major Clinton donor endorses McCain-Palin

I wish this was from Fox News, just to piss off some of the dum dums. But alas, this is from the New York Times!

Endorsements of the Rich and Famous
By Tobin Harshaw

“Lynn Forester de Rothschild, a prominent Hillary Clinton supporter and member of the Democratic National Committee’s Platform Committee, will endorse John McCain for president on Wednesday,” according to CNN’s Mark Preston.
“In an interview with CNN this summer, Forester did not hide her distaste for eventual Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama. ‘This is a hard decision for me personally because frankly I don’t like him,’ she said of Obama in an interview with CNN’s Joe Johns. ‘I feel like he is an elitist. I feel like he has not given me reason to trust him.’ ”
Irony truly is dead as Lynn Forester de Rothschild endorses John McCain on anti-elitism grounds,” responds Matthew Yglesias, who implies that Lady de Rothschild, the wife of the London banking family heir, Sir Evelyn de Rothschild, might have less-than-ideological grounds for her decision. He contuinues:
On an unrelated note, the stakes have rarely been higher in an election for extremely rich people than they are in this one. Barack Obama’s tax proposals don’t raise a ton of new net revenue and, as a consequence, have tended to be viewed as pretty moderate. But one reason they don’t raise all that much net revenue is that he’s offering large tax cuts to the majority of people and those offset the substantial tax hike he’s proposing on the rich.
Conservative blogger Robert Stacy McCain isn’t sure whether his candidate should welcome his new supporter:
This ain’t exactly going to swing the populist vote. And speaking of populists, the Rothschilds figure rather prominently in kook-fringe conspiracy theories. It’s like getting endorsed by the Bavarian Illuminati or the Tri-Lateral Commission. Not going to win you any friends in the tinfoil-hat/shortwave-radio crowd.
On the other hand, maybe the G.O.P. needed to improve its standing with the Glamorous Jet-Setting Wealthy Socialite demographic.
Maverick’s new job-creation plan? Mme. Rothschild hires every unemployed swing voter in Pennsylvania!
As for that demographic, it appears that Obama still has a pretty solid grip, as The Times’s Caucus blog reports:
Senator Barack Obama stood beneath the stars — surrounded by the ones from Hollywood — and tried to soothe the concerns of worrying Democrats here on Tuesday as he held the biggest fund-raising night of his campaign …
“A lot of people have gotten nervous and concerned. Why is this as close as it is? And what’s going on?” Mr. Obama said, speaking to about 300 people over dinner at the Greystone Mansion. “We always knew this was going to be hard — this is a leap for the American people.”
In back-to-back receptions, one that featured a brief performance by Barbra Streisand, Mr. Obama raised about $11 million for his campaign and the party’s general election efforts.
Democratic fund-raising officials confirmed the figure, which exceeded a previous one-night record for the campaign of $7 million last month.
“Having assured one group of elites that despite being awfully confused the American people are ‘basically decent’ and ‘basically sound,’ Barack Obama somehow sounded less certain last night at his Barbara Streisand fundraiser,” writes John McCormack at the Corner, taking issue with the candidate’s quote. ‘You’ve got to love that clear distinction between ‘we’ and ‘the American people.’ ”

Ain't that a typical Rebulican stance - having a "Rothchild" call Obama an elitist.

It seems more and more evident that the Republican "elitist" claim is just a cover for some serious racial undertones.

Uhmmm...so?

"Two Republicans endorse Obama
Former U.S. Rep. Jim Leach of Iowa and former Alaska legislator Jim Whitaker announce their support for the Democratic candidate."

Hello 1:40pm/1:42pm,

The woman is a high-ranking Democrat who works on the PLATFORM Committee.

Thanks for providing the other side of the story. I'm never against that.

She's just the first of many.

Look for one of the biggest givers in the entire Democratic Party to endorse and support McCain soon.

The Clintonistas are still real unhappy and Obama has not found a way to placate them.

Look for some big players to declare for McCain/Palin.

She said she is resigning from the Democrat's Platform Committee, and that "I didn't leave the Democratic Party, but it left me."

Interestingly, the woman is from working-class New Jersey.

It really IS ironic that she married into the Rothschild family, and feels that Obama is elitist.

When Wolf Blitzer asked her if it's a vote FOR McCain or AGAINST Obama. She says it is FOR McCain and Palin. "I admire and revere their lives."

And Republican maverick and former mayor Richard Riordan is an Obama supporter.

Now, Warren Buffett says both Obama and Clinton would be qualified to run a corporation.

John Kerry lost by touting donors nobody had heard of before John Kerry touted them. No white trash knew the name of George Soros before 2004; now they'll know not only his name but the name of this rightwing boll weevil too.

Because that's all that McCain has: seven or eight billionaires, 10 million white trash okies and hillbilles, 10 million white-trash-4-Baby-Jesus fundies, two dozen Uncle Toms, three dozen MayorSam readers, and about 150 Likudniks.

Not enough, even when you all shout out to each other with your white trash overcoding: "Hockey Mom! Kill that moose! Bud uber alles!"

Sarah Palin's personal e-mail account hacked? You gotta love technology. This is one problem John McCain will never have.

I guess in Riordan Obama found the one guy older than John McCain who can vote for him.

No big pick-up. Riordan is a RHINO anyway. If you're a Republican and want to do business with the elite in LA you have to go Democrat. Just ask a once conservative Dennis Zine, Greig Smith or Bernard Parks.

Or Jose Huizar.

"Elitist" is the new code word for "uppity." Uppity referred to the Negro who didn't know his place in Jim Crow society and ofter foolishly considered him/herself as equal to white people.

Ironic coming from the woman who referred to Rupert Murdoch as such:

"I have so much respect for Rupert Murdoch, I cannot even tell you. I don't, of course, agree with his politics all the time, but I think that he is a visionary.... He's honorable...."

Yea. That pretty much says it all.

So you can't be a Republican unless you're a conservative? That makes it a pretty exclusive club and one that doesn't seem to attractive to the moderates and independents that are important to victory.

As I said, the stupid "Oh Yeah?" replies here are predictable.

The Obama backers can't just read a freaking article and digest it without an "oh yeah" response.

It's great that Buffet THINKs Obama or Hillary "COULD" run a company. The only one with executive experience is Sarah Palin.

I'm just putting it out there.

My guess is that Buffett feels that Palin's 2 year gig as governor of a tiny state, and a few more years as a powerless mayor of a backwoods town doesn't amount to all that much.

But if you want to argue with Warren Buffett about corporate executive skills, be my guest.

So you're arguing that ANY governor is more qualified to be president that any U.S. Senator?

I would really like to hear Haikula's true reasons as to why she thinks Palin is in ANY way qualified. Please be specific.
