Could a County Employee Be Posting Racist Blog Comments and Whitewashing Wikipedia?

SaveOurTacoTrucks.org is fighting the good fight against bureaucrats who want to shut down the wagons that gringos like Joe B. (his favorite: the one outside the Target in North Hollywood) love to frequent and often dispense delectable regional cuisine out of various Latin nations.

Now in a stunning development the folks at the pro-taco truck campaign's blog have discovered that the source of racist, anti-white (and anti-taco truck) comments posted on the site several months ago came from the same IP address that was found to be editing County Supervisor Gloria Molina's Wikipedia entry.  (Gloria is opposed to taco trucks.) Let's let the taco truck folks continue:

Now, there’s also something much less obvious about this post that we noticed. Every time a comment is posted, the IP address (essentially a unique internet ID) is noted. Interestingly, the IP address (159.83.252.234) for the two posts is registered to the County of Los Angeles.

Stay with me, because it gets better.

In April, somebody took the time to post a section about the controversy on Gloria Molina’s Wikipedia page. On September 10th, the entire “Controversy” section was wiped out, white-washed like a mural in the Arroyo Seco. Fortunately, Wikipedia also notes the IP address of anybody who makes a change to an article. Want to guess the address responsible for this change?

That’s right, the exact same eleven digits: 159.83.252.234.

So what we have here is someone using an LA County computer to post hateful, racist comments on SaveOurTacoTrucks.org that is also whitewashing Gloria Molina's Wikipedia entry on a regular basis.  Hmmm, time for an investigation?

Michael, although I am an unofficial anti-taco truck proponent (operating on the side of established tax-paying merchants), I'm also a proponent of a "color-blind" citizenry. Racism has no place in American Government - from the top down.

I believe you're correct: it's indeed time for an investigation. If this is what we're to expect from County, it's time to start cleaning the "County House."

Those taco trucks are nasty, a public health issue, leave their trash and oil in the neighborhood and if you try and oppose them people call you racist. The East Los Angeles Chamber made up of many Latinos oppose and support Molina as thousands of Latinos in LA. These damn trucks make tax free money, some run drugs out of their trucks, the gang bangers even make some like in Rampart area pay a tax to them. GET RID OF THEM.

Am I the only one wondering what exactly Gloria Molina has accomplished in her decades of public office, other than enriching her husband and her cronies, and growing as wide as she is tall?

I'm for the taco trucks as long as they have to follow the same rules as everyone else. It's all about capitalism baby.

By the way, is Jose Huizar going to make the taco trucks print their nutritional information?

But the bigger issue beyond tacos is, is a county employee using a county computer to post racist comments and remove legitimate criticism of an elected official from a neutral website like Wikipedia?

The Director of Animal Services Ed Boks started a blog which he used to attack all of his detractors. He posted anonymously. He even attacked his own employees on the blog, calling them lazy bums who use their race to get out of doing their job.

Yeah Michael for pointing out the ridiculous Huziar ordinance to post calories yet says nothing about the nasty taco trucks and illegal vendors. Yeah, go after the "legal" businesses that pay all their fees and let the illegal taco trucks and vendors get away making tons of money without paying taxes. How would like one of those nastry trucks sitting outside your front yard for hours at a time. GO MOLINA!!!!

Higby, the taco trucks would unlikely be subject to the city's calorie count menu unless part of a 15-or-more sites franchise. Huizar is characteristically wasting his and our time. He still ignores not even quality of life but SAFETY OF LIFE issues, again, as usual.

He's never addressed Jamiel's Law concerns as a vital matter, with all the other negligent CMs doing the same but for 2. He instead is picking on matters better left to be decided by market forces but nevertheless imposes more of the GOVERNMENT's choice in place of INDIVIDUAL's choice.

And if you say County employees' posting of racist comments is wrong, then City employees doing the same are wrong, too.

And in closing, what would define "racist" comments since it's a term freely thrown about by people and groups as it suits them to do so? That definition would be difficult to make without much subjectivity, and who will be the referees?

As to taco trucks, what are the relevant licensing requirements compared to a brick-and-mortar restaurant? The county measure only makes them use their advantage, mobility, and if they park at length, they should be subject to the same laws, inspections and obligations of the fixed business establishments.

What is the point for an entrepreneur who is seeking a site for a restaurant to check and rely on marketing and demographic reports for placement if one or more taco trucks will later plant themselves nearby and change the entire picture?

The city won't do anything about that and you see the resulting downgrading of areas by the trucks becoming fixtures.

Good for the county.

And the blog comments departing from issue discussion and using the old standby of personal derision on personal attributes really are what happens when people are short on real interest in intelligent thought application.

Latino in LA,

On one hand you praise the market but on the other hand you expect the government to protect lazy restaurant owners from taco trucks the same way some ineffective store owners want the government to protect them from Wal-Mart or Home Depot.

What do you do if a taco truck opens up? Man you compete?

As far as racist comments go I guess we can live with one crank posting on the taco truck blog, but whitewashing wikipedia? That's a different issue.

Someone should analyze Huizar's time wasting viz-a-viz Zuma Dogg's.

Higby calling "legitimate" biased and often nasty postings onto someone's Wikipedia is typical Higby.

That's not the place for every group opposed to an official to post anything they want, even hateful and untrue rumor and innuendo. You're confusing Wikipedia with blogs like this one. The fact that anyone can do that is why Wikipedia is a joke, but removing slander from a blog under your name is your right.

Which doesn't excuse using county computer for racist comments, but there's no proof Molina knew about it or the person worked for her -- she's the last one to post anti- Latino material, or whatever the alleged racism is. What were the comments, since no one says?

Is it "racist" just to claim that those who call banning taco trucks racist are using race to combat an issue of legality and health? If so, everyone on this blog and elsewhere who calls out the Latino officials for using the race card when it suits them is "racist." And since when do major papers go around publishing IP numbers without knowing the whole story? It's all just very strange.

Here is a story especially for our sanctimonious mechista and all things mexican spokesman - Sr. Don Quixote, I will wait for you to tell why the gavachos are responsible for this attack

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-fg-mexattack17-2008sep17,0,2057095.story

MEXICO CITY -- A grenade attack on thousands of Independence Day revelers killed seven, injured more than 100 and posed a brazen new challenge by organized crime to Mexico's government today.

The attack was, for Mexico, the rough equivalent of a domestic terrorist hit on a July Fourth parade in Texas, and President Felipe Calderon acted quickly -- in a nationally televised address, he urged citizens not to be afraid, and pledged an immediate military response.

I like the taco trucks and if you don't want to eat in them, don't but for me personally, I like the choice.

I think if you are going to complain about them not being taxed, then you should work on that issue and also support the 1/2 cent sales tax because it is equally distributed amongst everyone and the homeowner doesn't carry the burden.

But I agree with Higby that the big story here is the County Employee posting comments on County time.

Gloria Molina is also a smoker. She has about as much will power over tobacco as she does for food -she even smoked during her pregnancy! What a role model.
