Oh, oh, Joe B's lookin' to be a politician, lookin' for Jewsion-La-Fusion -- Klezmer music (played by dudes with goy names) and what Alarcon calls "greaser music." (Didja catch his "praise" for the Beach Boys last Friday as fusin' surfer music with soul and "greaser music" into one hellluvan LA sound?)

Good post Joe B, In the western US there's a history of interaction and intermingling between the Mexican American and Jewish populations that goes back hundreds of years to the first Europeans who came to settle the west. the Spanish and Spanish Jews and Arabs, up from Mexico into what is now the US southwest.
Most were Sephardic Jews who were victimized by the Spanish Inquisition and were either killed or became "Converso's" (Catholic converts). Many Sephardi converted just to save their ass's from torture and death but the first chance they got they got on a boat and went to the new world.
Unfortunately the "Inquisitors" followed the Conquistadors to the new world and started their shit here too.
The descendants of these "Converso's" who split Mexico and settled in the distant mountain villages of New Mexico and Calif are now Mexican Americans, but who share a lot of Jewish history and blood in their veins.
Closer to home the first large Jewish community in LA was on the East Side of LA, Boyle Heights, City Terrace, and was referred to as "Russian Flats" in my parents days.
Again there was a lot of interaction and intermarriage between the Jewish and Mexican American people that is evident to this day.
As a matter of fact my own wife is a product of a Jewish Father and a Mexican American Mother. It's an interesting combination, I benefit from her natural talent for learning and accounting, but when it comes to sex it sometimes might cost me a pound of flesh.
