The New American Standard

Here's a little email that's making the rounds:

I'm a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight.....

*If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you're "exotic, different, dangerous."
Grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, a quintessential American story.

*If your name is Barack you're a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.
Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you're a maverick.

*Graduate from Columbia University and Harvard Law School at the top of your class and you are unstable.
Attend 5 different small colleges in 6 years before finally squeezing out a bachelor's degree, you're well grounded.

*If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years teaching Constitutional Law, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate's Health and Human Services Committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs committees, you don't have any real leadership experience.
If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you're qualified to become the country's second highest ranking executive.

*If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2 beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches, you're not a real Christian.
If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress you met in a bar, and left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you're the perfect representative for "Christian values."

*If you teach children about sexual predators and educate teens about responsible birth control and disease prevention methods, you are irresponsible and eroding the fiber of society.
If, while governor, you staunchly advocate "abstinence only", with no other option in sex education in your state's school system while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant, you're very responsible.

*If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family's values don't represent America's.
If your husband is nicknamed "First Dude", with at least one DUI conviction and no college education, who didn't register to vote until age 25, and once was a member of a group that hates America and advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely admirable.

OK, much clearer now.

"Oh war...it's just god's way of teaching Americans geography." - Jon Stewart

Can you please not post internet-rumor-mill emails?

I saw this and deleted it when I got it.

At the very least, please format it so it's easier to read.

Format it? Sure, how's it read now?

Small, and with an odd font.

Anyway, thanks for ironing it out. I will at least read it, but internet rumors are not much fodder.

that e-mail is 100% accurate and factual. Not one item in there is fabricated or untrue and both campaigns have confirmed every piece of information in it.

its sad and pathetic how many people in this country can be fooled so easily. This country deserves what it gets.

Internet-rumor-mill?? Are you messing with me? Please tell me you aren't going to deny ONE of those events. Please?

Notice how it didn't mention the "rumor" about the oldest kid having to choose between Iraq and jail. Notice how it didn't mention the problems this incredibly hard-working mom's children have with pain pills.

So what's with your denial? Can't live with the trailer trash your party nominated? Holy Moly! I don't blame you. It's shocking, I tell you.

Makes me wanna go door to door for Obama or something.

This email might be effective had it not been written by a partisan pinhead.

"Brilliant community organizer"

"2 beautiful daughters"

GAWD gag me with a spoon! Wipe the drool from your mouth. Stick to the facts.

Obama's daughters are adorable!
And Obama's stint as a community organizer was brilliant and honorable! What's your point except to smear anything good said about the man?
As Mayor Sam would say....
"Go Play On the Freeway!"

Obama's children ARE truly adorable. Anyone who says otherwise is a total FOO'!

Palin's children are precious, too.

Has anyone noticed that the McCains have an adopted African child?

And for the love of the lord, my name is Haikula. It is a pure coincidence that my friend and I write haikus and live here. It is Finnish. (I am part Finnish) Look up "Haikula Oy!"

Hi 6:07pm,

You are a genuine whacko. If I cared about a whacko's thoughts, I would ask what the hell you are talking about.

But I pay you no mind. Pass the soy sauce. Haikula

Whatever.

Liberal CNN's bio on Obama showed how his activist, single mother (who remarried a local Indonesian) got concerned that the Indonesian school he went to there wasn't very good, so got him a scholarship to a private school in Hawaii based on his race and her poverty.

He was a poor student, excelling only in basketball.

But got into Occidental College in LA (best he could do, when anyone with half-decent grades from that school in Hawaii, with his DNA, would have gotten a scholarship straight to an IVY), where he was a poor student again.

His mother persuaded him to shape up at the end of freshman year -- despite poor academic records so far, he applied and got into Columbia where he determined to actually crack the books.

Did well there after becoming an academic hermit, not knowing his identity or who he was in New York, neither white, black, nor Indonesian, got into Harvard Law.

Michelle gave him his identity and in Chicago, he sought identity by becoming an activist in black community.

Nice story, but a total lie that he didn't rely on his race and his mother's poverty/ "exotic" background for scholarships and affirmative action admissions.

Sarah was white, middle class, and didn't have any choice but to pay her own way and get into where she could. No way could she suddenly "shape up" after an expensive private high school and college and miraculously get a scholarship into Columbia. Palin may not have ever gotten smart enough for Harvard Law, but who knows.

See today's LA Times article about how a professor at UCLA is being denied access to records to determine how many law students there are getting in thanks to affirmative action. I.e., entering and graduating possibly not fully qualified.

We all want to see minorities succeed, but when they're not playing on the same, even field, who knows if hiring a black lawyer or engineer or doctor will give you peace of mind? Many ARE and they would not want the less qualified to sully them by association.

IF you want a story about someone poor who made it through school on her brains the whole way, that would have been Hillary. Who they knocked out of the way for the ultimate affirmative action Obama story.

What are you talking about? Hillary came from a Republican, upper middle class Park Ridge family. Her family owned a textile mill.

Now if anyone was poor white trash, it was Bill Clinton.

WTF?

Returning to Wellesley for her final year, Rodham wrote her senior thesis about the tactics of radical community organizer Saul Alinsky under Professor Schechter In 1969, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, with departmental honors in political science. She was featured in an article published in Life magazine, due to the response to a part of her speech that criticized Senator Edward Brooke, who had spoken before her at the commencement. That summer, she worked her way across Alaska, washing dishes in Mount McKinley National Park and sliming salmon in at the Palin Brothers Fish Processing Cannery in Valdez.

The concern with this kind of statement is what is omitted and then the treatment of the selections used as illustrations. These create the image of particular benefit to one side, and the entire effort creating it will most assuredly have a bias in the first place.

Going deeper into this and other similar items of the same style of construction would lessen the impact which is not what the author or proponents of the cause would want to happen.

But it makes some people feel good. That's all it's for. A morale booster.

Speaking of geography, Palin studied in Hawaii, too, as part of her college geographic adventure from business student in Alaska to journalism major in MT or WY or one of them mountain states. So it's not like the girl's never been out of Alaska, it's just that she's never been in a real "city" or tried to hold her own in snobby East Coast society. Where she'd be endless fodder for cocktail party snickering by the Seven Sisters set.
