Former Commissioner's Blog
This may not be news, but an MS reader sent me the link to the blog of the former Los Angeles Animal Services Commissioner , Marie Atake, who resigned after Mayor Villaraigosa's office turned a deaf ear to her concerns last year about Edward M. Boks, the shelter GM.
KABC Eyewitness News did a story on her departure after, she indicates, the Mayor put out false information about the state of the department, and conditions within the shelters. The Mayor dismissed her concerns as a "difference of opinion."
Atake, who founded an animal charity in Marina Del Rey called Forte Animal Rescue, was telling the truth, as demonstrated when the shelter workers, veterinary staff, and officers made a demand earlier this week for Boks' firing.
Mr. Boks has yet to post a response on his rather colorful city blog, but we'll link it here when he has one.

I believe writer Bartholemew of the Daily News said that Boks sent a letter to city council saying the complaining employees were basically just lazy and didn't want to do their job. Over half of the employees are lazy? I tried to find the letter in Zine's new motion but it's not up yet.
When Boks was fired from New York he wrote an affidavit stating that all his problems were caused by the City, Mayor, Commission, employees...everyone but him. I predicted over a year ago that he'll do the same thing here, and he is.

I sent an email to Mr. Boks today and offered to give him the platform to discuss the situation.
If anyone has either or both his letter to LA City Council, or the New York affidavit, I will continue to follow the story.

It's a shame that leaders like Ms. Atake who have great ideas and progressive visions to actually get something done have to deal with do-nothings who run the City like Rosen-doh, Boks, Bratton, Villaraigosa, etc.
By the way, is she single?

Hello 1:53pm,
This is a huge document! What is it about?

I don't know if she's single, but she is a really cool person.
She was appointed by Rosendahl to represent District 11 on the city's Spay-Neuter Ordinance Advisory Committee that Boks is also trying to weigh down.
Since she is such an advocate for doing the right thing in her part of this world, maybe you can let her post a Pet-of-the-Week, and keep the blog or Hakulo updated about the shelter situation.
Here is her article in the Daily News when she resigned.

That is Ed Boks' affidavit for a lawsuit against New York City animal control. After he was fired he helped a group sue the City. In the affidavit he says he feared being fired all the time. He said the Mayor hated him, Mayor's office complained about him all the time. He was involved in quite a few controversies just like here in LA. He overcrowded the shelters, animals were dying, he renamed pitbulls "New Yorkies..."
Do people realize that Ed Boks is being sued in New York because he fired an experienced black person and replaced him with an inexperienced white person with a criminal record? LA City Attorney has said from the beginning that "Ed Boks is a lawsuit waiting to happen." I think the City and Ed Boks are currently involved in five lawsuits because of things Boks did.

Guess this qualifies her to run for VP.

Oh and she sings too. Does she like old, dead, Republican Mayor bloggers? I'll go tell Boks off for her.

I have nothing against Ms Atake, but let's be truthful.
Insiders know that she was given a choice to resign or be fired.
She chose to resign with a splash.
I'm sure future "resignees" will not have the choice of submitting their own resignation letters. The mayor's office has pre-written letters as part of the commission appointment paperwork.

The Mayor has my pre-written, undated resignation letter plus rights to my first born's college degree in case his daughter needs it!

Who's the "Insider? Boks?
Boks was whining like a baby to Blackman for a long time begging him to shut Marie up. So the sugar daddy finally told her to be a rubber-stamper. She refused. Boks then spread the rumor which only his enablers and groupies chose to believe.
