Los Angeles Metropolitan Churches put Jamiel's Law on the back burner

Before I tell you what happened, let me first tell you about a heartfelt article, "When Games Don't Matter: The Tragedy of Jamiel Shaw", by Ryan Canner-O'Mealy. If you can, buy the September 2008 issue of RISE, an ESPN Magazine. The pictures alone will touch your heart.

Also, this Sunday, September 7th, the San Francisco 49ers will open their season with Arizona Cardinals. Before the game, the San Francisco organization will have a tribute to the Bologna family. We all know the tragic story.

I spoke with Danielle and she told me that her husband Tony, was a season seat holder with the San Francisco 49ers for the past 30 years! She said she was very surprised when the organization called her and told her they were going to honor Tony before the opening game.

Once again we were invited to gather signatures for Jamiel's Law, only later to be told that we could not! This time it was the Los Angeles Metropolitan Churches (LAM), that put Jamiel's Law on the back burner.

I'm deleting the previous email exchange I posted here with a LAM Director. It's not worth the post. Basically we were told by LAM, that we could bring a table and chairs and gather signatures inside the Los Angeles Convention Center on tomorrow from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. We were told that thousands of people would attend this event. Only to be later told by email that we cannot get signatures inside the Convention Center. Looks like we'll be in front of the Convention Center tomorrow gathering signatures. These people, these people!

There are 7,000 signatures turned in. We're thankful to everyone who signed the petition so far! It's along way to go, but if we don't give up, we will get the job done!

We want to thank the Doug McIntyre Morning Show at TalkRadio 790 KABC-AM, for turning in signatures! We also want to thank Councilman Zine's office for turning in signatures too!

You are learning what most of us are ready know, the Mayor and City Council are more concerned with making L.A. a sanctuary city for illegal immigrants than the concerns of U.S. citizens.

It is obvious to anyone that illegal immigrants keep adding to the gang and crime problem in California, but no mexican politican wants to talk about this problem.

Why would you want to hear what the mexican politicans have to say, Why would you go to mexico to ask?

The politicans on the City of L.A. Council are Americans! Ask them.

Or are you just a racist! And maybe that's why you and your movement is going no where?

Once a Racist always a Racist.

I'll also ask VillaBaboso, Huizar, Reyes and Alarcon if they have ever supported any enforcement of any immigration laws which might deport any illegal alien.

These mexican politicans think we should just have an open border so every mexican can burden our schools, hospitals and jails.

I am an American of Mexican descent who wants to enforce immigration laws, just like Mexico does. Mexico has no problem deporting Central Americans from it's country, but the mexicans in this country expect some kind of free pass.

No seas pendejo eastsider, we all know the city council members and the mayor want to convert L.A. into another Tijuana. Why do you think L.A. has some of the dirtest streets, most graffiti, most gangs, and most illegal street vendors.

Dear All --

Do Republicans, nativist, et al., really care about a young black male that very likely had gang ties? If so, there are hundreds of young black males just like Jamiel in Los Angeles for whom you could champion and advocate.

My guess is that you won't because you are using him as a tool for your bullshit.

Give it up. You're full of shit.

Sincerely,

Choco from the Valley

All anyone has to do is drive to the districts that have the most illegals Reyes, Cardenas, Alarcon, Huizar and see the blight they have caused. Drive through downtown LA and see the hundreds of illegal vendors yet not one moron council person will say a word to clean it up. WHY???? They are blatantly breaking the law and these uneducated politicans say nothing. Jan Perry put so much effort into banning fast food yet parts of her district in downtown is one of the most filthyess with hundreds of illegal vendors selling bacteria latent food and not wearing gloves. They pick their noses and handle FOOD.

Thank you for fighting for all of us that can not do the work.

Keep up the good work. Where are you going to be in front of the convention center? On what street or what side?

I am sorry that some do not understand what this issue is really about. That is sad.
