Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Wednesday

Franklin Avenue notes that the City of LA's birthday is Thursday but the City has apparently forgotten.  The city website still show's last year's events.  Oh well.  Most drugstores have belated birthday cards.

At the risk of getting a swarm of anonymous comments from Bart Reed and Zach Behrens, Governor Schwarzenegger has an opportunity to veto the Westside-centric transit tax scam to go on this November's ballot.  With the the Governor readying a sales tax increase of his own it's not likely voters will pass additional taxes that are paid for by the rest of the County but only benefit one side.  Though Schwarazenegger has promised to veto all bills until a budget is passed, he's already broken that promise on another transit related bill that came before him.

I wonder if Zuma Dogg addressed this in public comment.  Today the LA City Council voted to extend a moratorium on new medical marijuana facilities.

You can't hose your driveway off with a hose under the City's new water conservation rules however if you use something called a "water broom" you can do it that way.  Though the item retails for $200, LAist reports that you can get a rebate for $150 from the Metropolitan Water District.

Once again Higby,

Please show some numbers showing that it ONLY benefits the Westside.

Until you do, STFU

Ditto on 6:16, but since Higby's only referenced "expert" is zuma dogg, the substance of his arguments is clear.
As usual. This blog is like flypaper to malcontents and oddballs.

Memo to DWP:

Flash! I hereby notify you that I fully intend to continue watering my driveway, and anything else that needs to be watered!

There is no way in hell that I will be punished or penalized because this goddamned city has 5M illegals who are using up all of our resources!

This is an even bigger scam than the cell phone tax! You can bank on the fact that DWP will hire hundreds of water policemen to patrol our streets looking for HUGE WINDFALL REVENUES! This is nhot about water conversation...it's about fucking the public!

We wouldn't have to water our driveways and sidewalks if there weren't so many filthy Mexicans littering and trashing our city!

Mexicans = BLIGHT!!!!

I have a suggestion for all of you assholes at DWP...GIVE A WATER BROOM TO ALL THE ILLEGALS AND PUT THEM OUT ON OUR STREETS TO CLEAN OUR DRIVEWAYS AND SIDEWALKS!

And then...go eff yourselves!

Good morning Ladies and Gentlemen (removes hat and makes elegant leg to Senator Lieberman):

Good show, man! Now that's the kind of Yankee spirit this country needs! (Claps hands) Sots, that was an excellent speech last night by the esteemed Senator, don't you agree? (Smiles) Wouldn't it be wonderful if all public officials spoke as elegantly as the Senator, savvy?

Here is a story just for Don Quackers who teel us all mexicans are hardworking and honest people.

And of course Don Quackers expects American citizens to waste their tax dollars on schools, hospital care and jails for every mexican who is here illegally.

We can all see how "beautiful" it is around westlake and east L.A. thsnks to the tijuana transplants.

Fueled by a broad crackdown by immigration officials, federal prosecutions of illegal immigrants with felony records in Southern California are on pace this year to hit a high not seen in nearly a decade.

So far this fiscal year, there have been 657 federal prosecutions - up more than 20percent from the previous year, according to figures from the U.S. Attorney's Office in Los Angeles.

And with three months still left to count - and about 50 cases filed per month - this year's total should surpass the 792 cases filed in 2003-04 and mark a nearly 400 percent increase over the 135 cases filed in 2000-01.

The prosecutions come as the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and the Los Angeles Police Department have stepped up efforts to focus on criminal illegal immigrants, and federal agents also are cracking down on those who ignore deportation orders or commit crimes

The water thing is even more ridiculous when you consider how many houses are in foreclosure. www.socalforeclosurehelp.com has an article on how foreclosures affect the DWP. The basic gist is fewer homeowners mean less people caring for their lawns, should equal less water use. More people moving to apartments = ditto. More people leaving LA? = same.
