From the "Politico"
CBS's "Face the Nation" featured several sharp exchanges between Sen. Evan Bayh (D-Ind.) and Republican Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty over the Georgian conflict, Iraq and other issues.
After Pawlenty suggested that McCain's response to the Georgian crisis was a demonstration of the Arizona Republican's "clarity and strength and judgment," Bayh slammed McCain for "bellicose rhetoric" and suggested his temperament was not suitable for the Oval Office.
"We are not 'all Georgians now,'" Bayh said, refuting a McCain statement from earlier in the week. "If we were all Georgians and Russia were invading our country and killing our people, we would be in a state of war. Clearly, that¹s not what we want. John sometimes — he's a good person, but he is a little bit given to this bellicose rhetoric which has a tendency to inflame conflicts rather than defuse them."
Pawlenty countered by accusing Obama of "naiveté" on Georgia and the Iraq war, hitting Obama for a "startling lack of judgment" in opposing the surge in U.S. forces stationed in Iraq. Pawlenty also tweaked Bayh for supporting the 2003 invasion of Iraq, something that Obama opposed. Some liberal activists have begun a campaign to keep Bayh off the Democratic ticket because of his stance on Iraq.

HAIKULA'S VP PREDICTION
I won't keep hidin'.
O's veep pick will be Biden.
McCain will still win.
(This haiku doesn't mean I'm voting this way)

HaikuLA has said something almost sharp for once. Biden is the smartest foreign policy wonk the Dems have, and could balance Obots lack of experience. But he got only a few percent of the votes from a public which is generally not smart enough to appreciate the nuanced views of a Biden.
Richardson ditched Hillary, hoping for the Veep nod himself -- as a Latino, he's got a voting bloc and some foreign experience, too. But Obot might wonder, would a black and a Latino scare the whites even more? Bayh IS whitebread if Obot wants to "reassure" those gun-toting rednecks worried about their jobs he infamously dissed.

From the Huffington Post:
JULY 28: Kaine 'Very, Very High' On VP Shortlist
A source says Obama is looking closely at Kaine.
As Senator Barack Obama turns to the choice of his running mate, Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine has emerged as one of the campaign's potential finalists, sources familiar with conversations in Richmond and in Chicago said. Kaine, an early Obama supporter whose biography nicely dovetails with the Illinois senator's, "ranks very, very high on the short list," said a source who has spoken recently to senior Obama aides about Kaine. Kaine "is getting a critical examination," the source said.
JULY 28: The Kaine Boomlet
Obama comments on "Meet The Press" set off speculation about Kaine.
Ears perked up all over Washington when Obama offered Brokaw a laundry list of characteristics important to him in selecting a vice president -- particularly when Obama seemed to suggest that his veep pick would need to be a change agent ready to shake up Washington. Conventional wisdom quickly formed: Obama was signaling his preference for an outside-the-Beltway pick (Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine or Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius) rather than a Capitol Hill type.
JULY 24: McAuliffe Boosts Kaine For VP
Clinton's former campaign chair says Kaine is Obama's best choice.
McAuliffe was adamant in his recommendation of Kaine as the Democratic Party's vice presidential nominee Tuesday, although he stressed to the News-Press after his speech, which included an informal half-hour question and answer period, that the ultimate choice will be Obama's very personal one.

Biden brings a lot to the ticket including a big mouth and a tendency to say stupid things like “You cannot go to a 7/11 or a Dunkin’ Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. I’m not joking.”
He also looks like a Mafia don.
Too risky.

I agree, as much as I like him, he
is the Dem version of McCain. Temper
and no filter between brain and mouth.
Richardson has a shot, but I'm still leaning Kaine.

Gov. Tim Kaine - If he can win Virginia, Obama is President. Kaine is popular in Virginia, especially in Northern Virginia where Dems have been putting up impressive numbers. The downside is that two years ago he was mayor of the 105th largest city in America. Two inexperienced candidates on the same ticket with a bad economy and growing world turmoil may keep him off the ticket. If he wasn't from Virginia, he wouldn' t be on this list.

Foreign Policy backgound is the key for selection as V.P. That said, here are your picks.
"Tio-Taco" Pete Richardson (8-1)
Joe "Those were my words" Biden (5-1)
Former Senator Sam Nunn of Georgia (10-1)
John "F-ing" Kerry (10-1)

Red Snot,
Besides the idiotic race baiting statement "Tio Taco" the world is waiting with baited breath to know straight from your burro mouth,
Who the hell is Pete Richarson?
Is he one of your relatives? like
the banjo player from the movie "Deliverence"?

I didn't say that Biden isn't risky. And I'm not measuring his riskiness versus the explosiveness of McCain.
I merely said who I think Obama is going to pick, because Obama is deseperate for some foreign relations quals and a guy who looks like he's got more mileage than Evan Bayh.
Michael Higby said:
Richardson hasn't shaved his beard yet so he's not the nominee.
Kaine is about as experienced as Obama and Obama needs balance there. Plus he ain't the most charming guy.
Biden is a big mouth; but he'll be Obama's pick for Secretary of State should he win.
Bayh is the all around package for Obama. Boring white guy. Boy next door type. Middle of the road. Not going to embarrass him. Comes from a respected political family and has both executive and foreign policy experience. Good COO material.

O needs geographic diversity as well as balance in age and foreign policy experience. Biden fits the bill, but a northern "uppity" black guy may do well to pick a southerner or someone from Texas or the west. Probably not Calif., which much of the country is seeing as scary with our immigration policies, Nancy Pelosi and anti-business taxes -- anybody in Colorado, AZ or...?

Biden, Bayh get VP night slots at convention
(CNN) — The two senators widely believed to be at the top of Barack Obama’s shortlist for VP have been given prime-time speaking slots at the Democratic convention Wednesday night — the very same night the vice presidential candidate is slated to speak.
According to the Democratic National Convention Committee, both Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh and Delaware Sen. Joe Biden will deliver speeches on national security during the marquee night — the same evening former President Bill Clinton is also scheduled to speak.
New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, West Virginia Sen. Jay Rockefeller, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and Colorado Sen. Ken Salazar will also speak Wednesday evening, according to the convention committee.
But Biden and Bayh’s appearance especially is sure to heighten speculation one of the two senators will ultimately be named Obama’s running mate. The announcement also comes the same day Biden hit the campaign trail for the Illinois senator, accepting an endorsement on his behalf from the International Association of Firefighters in Las Vegas.

Biden and Bayh being scheduled to speak the night of the vice presidential nominee has raised questions about whether it maybe one of them that will get the nod.
Tim Kaine is a Democratic governor of a Republican state which is attractive to the Obama campaign, however Kaine lacks experience. Kaine has now served 3 years as governor and does not have the foreign policy experience the Obama campaign is looking for.
Kaine and Bayh both appeared on Sunday talk shows on August 17, showing that they are all likely in the running at the moment.
Evan Bayh is a strong contender because he is consistent and rarely makes mistakes. Bayh would be a safe choice if the Obama campaign wants a candidate that will not distract from Obama on the campaign trail.

I haven't exactly been a champion of Bayh until recently, but come on let's look at the map. If this pick doesn't make strong electoral sense (and I can only see 2 - Kaine and Bayh - that do), I'm going to be very confused. And if he picks someone else and we go on to lose by those 5 EVs, going down in both IN and VA by slim margins, he's got lots of splainin to do.

I'm a Democrat and I'll vote for Obama but I'm still shaky about him. Throw Bayh in the mix and I'm effin scared.
I like Biden and he's capable, but I worry that rank and file voters don't know him.
Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano would be good but not enough people know her.

If O picks Biden
He will definitely lose.
Most want Hillary.

I agree with Higby. Biden is too risky. Way too much of a big mouth and an "insert foot" big mouth at that.
Anonymous said:
Problem with Bayh is that he's from the state right next door to Obama's and doesn't bring any geographical advantage. Indiana is winnable for Dems without a VP candidate being from there. But anything's possible.
